NCAA '14 - Bob the Rebuilder

    Welcome.

I recently tried to get into a dynasty with Texas State + using a fictional coach w/ a fictional background in hopes to earn my way to Nebraska to replicate the success of Tom Osborne. However, I couldn't get myself to get into it, and started a dynasty with a real coach. I am 13 weeks into my first season as I begin this dynasty and I love the storylines I can share from the season so far. We have exceeded expectations by being bowl eligible and having All-Conference talent. By having so many games played already, I can easily share stories on my own pace.

Without further ado, welcome coach Bob DeBesse to the New Mexico Lobos.

FRESNO -- The New Mexico Lobos will take their 8-2 (5-1) record on the line when they battle #13 Fresno State 9-1 (6-0) Saturday night in Fresno. The two teams enter the game with potent offenses led by quarterbacks Cole Gautsche and future NFL 1st Rounder Derek Carr. The 6'3" Senior Bulldog is also a Davey O'Brien finalist. New Mexico and Fresno State are 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the NCAA in passing yards per game. The edge goes to Fresno State due to New Mexico's horrid pass defense which ranks dead last in FBS with 304.1 YPG allowed.

This matchup could be a preview of the MWC Championship Game in a couple of weeks. Both teams sit atop their respective divisions in the conference. New Mexico will battle Boise State next week (2nd in division) while Fresno State should take care of San Jose State to round out the regular season. Furthermore, this game carries a lot of importance for Fresno as they will be hosting 14 recruits this weekend in anticipation of an offensive explosion on the field.

Fresno State enters the game on a seven-game winning streak, not having dropped a game since a 21-26 bout with Colorado in Boulder. New Mexico is just as hot coming off four straight wins while scoring 42 or more points in each contest. Both teams are bowl eligible and Fresno is looking to sneak into a BCS Bowl as they are currently one of the highest-rated Group of 5 programs. Yet, bowl projections have the Lobos in the Poinsettia Bowl vs. Louisville and Fresno is slated to play Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl.

FRESNO -- New Mexico 9-2 (6-1) defeated Fresno State 9-2 (6-1) by a score of 41-35 on Saturday night. The Lobos relied on a run-heavy scheme and amassed 355 rushing yards and finding the endzone three times. Fresno State had no answer for Cole Gautsche as the Lobos signal-caller was nearly perfect through the air going 16/18 for 213 yards and a pair of touchdowns. On the ground, Gautsche totaled 191 yards and two more scores. Behind him, Kasey Carrier and Jhurrell Pressley combined for 161 yards and a score.

Derek Carr cut up the Lobos secondary throwing for 312 yards and four touchdowns, but the Bulldog rushing attack was held to just 67 yards rushing.

A nailbiter throughout, New Mexico took a 31-28 lead into the fourth quarter and didn't look back. An 11-yard touchdown pass to Ridge Jones with 5:49 left in the game gave Gautsche and Co. a 10-point cushion. However, Derek Carr drove down the field and connected with Davante Adams for a 17-yard touchdown pass. The Lobos received the ball and on the ensuing drive took their sweet time down the field, forcing the Bulldogs to burn three timeouts. Justus Adams nailed a 52-yard field goal with 42 seconds left to give New Mexico a six-point lead, but the Lobos gave Derek Carr the ball back. Dante Caro sealed the game for New Mexico with an INT as the Lobos now hold their own destiny for postseason play.

Dante Caro seals the game with an INT late in the matchup.

Ridge Jones hauls in his first of two TD receptions.

Ridge Jones extends the Lobos lead to 38-28 with this TD grab.
