PS... playing Nebraska makes me think of Malcolm Kelly's legendary freestyle after beating them in the Big 12 title game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9RiitZEHxA

Re: #SWARM - RELOADED
Sounds like a great game against Boise State.
It looks like Monroe had a clear shot at the Hail Mary, too - frustrating he dropped it!
I think this might be the only time a root against the Swarm, and it looks like my Huskers are pretty loaded, though it is weird seeing Mike Riley still the HC there. Go Big Red!

Re: #SWARM - RELOADED
That's an absolutely brutal way to lose. Yeah, you had nothing for Boise's runningback obviously, but for Henderson to make his only mistake in that spot and then come back and throw the perfect Hail Mary, only for your receiver to drop it? I'm surprised your controller is still functional after that.
That Kelly freestyle is gold and should be preserved at all costs.
Would have liked to see Slaughter's offense do more against Florida A&M, but I'll take a win nonetheless.
Good luck against Nebraska!Comment

I love that Kelly freestyle, so hype. That OU team was pretty loaded too. I did expect a bit more from Slaughter's offense against an FCS team, but still a good win.
Thanks for the comments! Pace is gonna slow down a bit because I'm back in team training for soccer starting tonight, preparing for semi-pro trials in the fall.Comment

Re: #SWARM - RELOADED
Report by Isaac Robinson - September 15th, 2019
Jerry Malone lights up Swarm for 400 yards, 55 points
Jerry Malone (center) threw for 164 yards to Mark Brothers (left) and 143 and a score to Terrance Williams (right)
401, 2 scores for Malone -- 114, 3 rushing scores, receiving score for tailback Brown -- Terrence Williams continues to shine with 143 yards, TD, already 9 scores for the likely 1st round pick
Lincoln, NE -- We knew this was coming. Westlake State fell to 1-2 in 2019 with a 55-24 loss at the hands of #17 Nebraska. Jerry Malone carved up the Swarm all day, finishing with 401 yards and 2 scores, completing 25 of 34 passes. Nebraska ran it well too, with Reggie Brown picking up 114 yards, scoring 3 times, and backup Nathan Battle running for 69 and 2 scores.
It was a quiet first quarter, with Nebraska getting the only points, a field goal set up by a 70 yard catch-and-run from star wideout Terrance Williams. But a B.J. Henderson pick early in the second gave the Huskers a short field, and they'd score their first TD of the day, with Brown running it in from a yard out. They'd force a punt and score again, with Williams catching a TD at the goal line. Westlake State would score a touchdown, as Henderson led them downfield, finishing the drive himself on a 9 yard scramble for the score. But the Huskers went on a quick drive, with Brown catching a short TD pass to put his team up 27-7 heading into the half.
Nebraska got it back to start the third quarter, and scored again to make it 34-7. Westlake State did get a field goal, but the Huskers scored again. That just about did it. Down 41-10, B.J. Henderson did connect with Josh Roach on a deep ball for a 53 yard score, but it was already over.
We got to see the backups late in the 4th, with Barrett Phillips coming in after Henderson was picked off downfield. Phillips played well, going 3 of 4 for 50 yards, and finding the endzone on an option keeper for his first career touchdown.
Barrett Phillips scores his first TD
Adding insult to injury, wideout Eric Monroe went down in the 3rd quarter, and did not return. He reportedly tore a pectoral muscle and is expected to miss about 10 weeks.
Line play was the big issue here. B.J. Henderson was sacked 5 times, and faced pressure almost every time he dropped back. The fact that he still completed 16 of 28 passes and made a big throw for a score is a testament to his ability. Injured guard Adam Jackson has been sorely missed so far, as Henderson has been sacked 8 times in 3 games.
Henderson was pressured all day
Defensively, there wasn't much of a pass rush either. The Swarm got to Malone just once, on a screen. Bryan Young was the only pass rusher who was at all effective, and that resulted in Malone often having 6, 7, 8 seconds to throw, making it very difficult for the players in coverage.
Coach Barkley didn't mince words after the game, putting a lot of blame squarely on both the offensive and defensive line:
Originally posted by Dion BarkleyWe've got to do better in the trenches. Period. We're not getting any pressure, we're giving up tons of pressure. We've got wideouts running good routes, QB making great throws, we're not bad in coverage. I won't lie and say I expected the win here, but better line play and we might have kept it close. We're better than that, and I'm definitely disappointed with our play on both sides of the line.

Tough loss for the Swarm, and tough loss of Monroe as well. I'm back on board with the Swarm winning now, haha. Good luck in AAC play!Comment

Re: #SWARM - RELOADED
Last Meeting: Westlake State beat ECU at The Hive in an epic 50-43 shootout on Senior Day.
Eric Monroe catches the game-tying score as time expires
Coach Barkley's Take
We should be winning this. True freshman Dan Davis (77 spd, 78 awr, 85 thp, 76 tha) is making his first start after ECU decided to burn his redshirt due to poor play from Sean McGill (44% completions). Marques Fitch (89 spd, 83 elu, 75 bcv, 74 btk) gave us fits last year, and him and Colin Smith (89 spd, 88 elu, 83 bcv, 66 btk) could be dangerous against our struggling run D. Receiving-wise, I'm only really worried about TE Marcus Fontenot (85 spd, 87 cth, 87 cit, 83 rte). The line isn't very good, Bryan Young should have a field day.
The front 7 is good, with Adam Mansfield (81 spd, 71 str, 85 fmv, 83 bsh) and Rodney Sims (71 spd, 83 str, 81 tak, 83 bsh) making up a good pair at end. Travis Bracken (88 spd, 95 bsh, 90 pur, 80 zcv) is a stud at MLB and could be very disruptive. Josh Lewis (82 ovr) is out, and his replacement Neil Holden is one of the most athletic backers in the nation (90 spd, 92 agi, 97 acc, 89 pur, 78 tak), who could shut down the edge. But he struggles getting off blocks (51 bsh), so we could bottle him up.
The secondary kind of sucks, with Aaron Sanders (87 spd, 91 mcv), Matt Fordinal (83, 89), Brian Wright (89, 76), Andrew Henderson (89, 80) all somewhat lacking either speed or size. We will be going deep. Matt Hampton (90 spd, 78 zcv) is OK, and Kenton Moore (86 spd, 69 zcv) doesn't have great instincts. We're going to look to move the ball in chunks through the air.Last edited by young22; 08-12-2020, 09:40 AM.Comment

Re: #SWARM - RELOADED
Tough loss to Nebraska, but thankfully AAC play is around the corner here. Despite losing Monroe, your offense should have little problem moving the ball on East Carolina, and hopefully you can get better play in the trenches to start conference season off on the right foot!Comment
