Same here man, it's gonna be fun! I don't recognize your username though, did you find the thread after I abandoned it or were you just a silent follower?

The only trap here is me being terrible at NCAA after not touching it for a while haha, but I've been in practice mode and it seemed to come back pretty quick. As long as we avoid stupid turnovers, we should win.

    Appreciate you commenting man!

Swarm edge out Bulls to stay perfect

Report by Isaac Robinson | October 25th, 2020

Kevin McFarland's late INT sealed the win

More questions than answers after second straight week of inconsistency on offense -- Defense comes up big with trifecta of turnovers as USF nearly play spoiler

Tampa, FL -- Westlake State stayed perfect, but it doesn't feel that way. The now 7-0 Swarm needed a late Kevin McFarland interception to beat UCF, handing the Bulls their 6th straight loss. Back to back games have now come down to the wire against inferior competition, raising some questions about how good this team really is.

B.J. Henderson didn't exactly help his Heisman candidacy, as despite putting up nearly 400 total yards, the senior looked shaky, lacking the big play ability and clutch gene that we've grown accustomed to seeing. He failed to lead a single scoring drive for the last quarter and a half after throwing a pick on a risky pass to the endzone.

USF led after a quarter, as Westlake State got off to a quick start but had a drive stall out in the redzone. The Bulls marched down the field and scored on a Ryan Green QB keeper, and then their defense held the Swarm to another field goal.

"I don't remember the last time we kicked two field goals to start a game," said Swarm head coach Dion Barkley. "We don't wanna see that against a 1-5 team."

It looked like trouble for the Swarm, but as they would do several times throughout this one, the defense came up big, with DT Melvin Lawrence forcing a fumble that was scooped up by Nick Watts around the 35. A few plays later, Henderson found Barrett Miller for an 8 yard score.

It looked like the offense had found its footing, as Henderson and the Swarm would outscore the Bulls 21-7 over the next few drives, until Henderson threw a pick trying to turn a broken play into a touchdown. This seemed to energize USF, who wouldn't allow another score and managed a field goal, then a touchdown to make it 27-22 after a failed 2-point conversion.

Freshman corner Bashar Scott picks off Henderson. Scott also deflected 3 passes on the day.

The teams exchanged punts after the touchdown, and with about 4 minutes to go in the 4th, Westlake State just needed to score. The drive started well, with Henderson finding Xavier Meeks for a gain of 22, but then a false start and an incompletion forced a long 3rd down. No conversion, and Kevin Tate booted it away, putting the game in the hands of this much-maligned defense.

It looked like a collapse was imminent. Thomas Turner broke off a huge gain, and even though it was offset by a clipping call, USF were still into Swarm territory. A couple plays later, Green would hit Phillip Gschwend for 15, and the Bulls were at the 37 with 2:46 and all three timeouts.

But it wasn't USF's day. Kevin McFarland jumped in front of a pass and took it back to around midfield, giving Westlake State the chance to run out the clock. And this time, they got the first down they needed, keeping it on the ground to seal the win.

Turnovers decided this game. Westlake State forced three of them, while only coughing up the football once.

B.J. Henderson vowed the offense would do better:

"You won't see this next week. We didn't execute the way we usually do, didn't score touchdowns in the redzone, didn't get those big plays going. Our defense picked us up, and I'm glad they did. On to the next one."

The next one is a matchup at home against 3-4 Temple, a good tune up game before the matchup with UCF, the only team likely to challenge Westlake State for the division.

Too close for comfort. At least you didn't have to dust off the sticks to face a more talented team. This was a good refresher team to play against.

            - #1 Oklahoma went down 52-35 to unranked Nebraska despite a great showing from Heisman frontrunner Bill Jackson, leaving Westlake State and Middle Tennessee State as the last 2 unbeatens

            - 6-1 Minnesota take the top spot

So I've decided that this thread will be less of a detailed report and more of just a way for me to track my dynasty. I wanna churn through a few seasons, and there's just no way I'm gonna do that if I'm doing all the graphics and detailed reporting. This is what recaps will look like, although I'll probably do the article style or at least something more detailed for big games.

              Y4, G8, vs Temple - W 49-17

Not quite as close as last week. Both sides of the ball were stellar, as the defense allowed just 334 yards, while the offense put up 525. This game began with a Jeremy Jackson pick-six, and Temple never really recovered. They were down 28-10 by the half and never looked like they stood a chance.

B.J. Henderson was a man on a mission, carrying the offense with 462 total yards and 6 total scores, putting himself in the lead in the Heisman race.

Not much to say here, it was just domination from start to finish.

              Around the Nation

              - Westlake State sit at #1 after both MTSU and Minnesota were upset, sending them plunging in the rankings. The Swarm have their toughest regular season matchup next: they travel to face 5-3 UCF, led by senior star Jeff Thomas.

              - B.J. Henderson is the new Heisman frontrunner, leapfrogging Texas QB Van Reed.

              - Kentucky are somehow ranked 6th, despite being 5-3. They've won 4 straight and kicked off that streak by beating #4 Florida.

Yeah for sure lmao. If I’d have been thrown back in against a good team we’d have likely lost.

                Thanks for checking in man

Glad to have you and this back, young! Looks like B.J. Henderson is still doing B.J. Henderson things after the hiatus.
