    2019 AIR FORCE PREVIEW

    DONALD HAMMOND

    QUARTERBACKS
On a team without much legit talent, Air Force has two strong options at quarterback, particularly for a Mountain West Conference school. Incumbent starter Donnie Hammond is 92 OVR and backup Isaiah Sanders is 87 OVR. On the rest of the roster, only six other players are rated in the 80s or higher. But only one player can be the quarterback. Hammond definitely earned the right to start once again after throwing for 4,125 yards and 24 touchdowns and leading the team with 760 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. Sanders was only 7-for-22 for 103 yards in mop-up duty. Both players have 83 SPD, but Hammond has the better arm with 88 THP and 83 THA compared to Sanders’ 83 THP and 80 THA.

    KADIN REMSBERG

    RUNNING BACKS
The star of this dynasty is back for two more seasons. Junior running back Kadin Remsberg will be even tougher to stop after getting a nudge from 95 SPD to 96 SPD in the offseason. He was the most dynamic player in the Mountain West Conference, though not in a traditional running back role. Remsberg broke Air Force’s single-season record for receiving yardage, gaining 1,406 yards and scoring 13 touchdowns on 72 receptions. He was rather pedestrian as a runner, averaging only 3.8 yards per carry with 703 yards and nine touchdowns on 184 carries. He will probably have fewer rushing yards, as 78 OVR senior Joseph Saucier will be formation-subbed into two-back sets to prevent Remsberg from disappearing late in games with fatigue issues.

    GERAUD SANDERS

    WIDE RECEIVERS
There’s nothing special about this group, which could be a concern if the Falcons air it out as much as they did last season. Senior Geraud Sanders leads the receiving corps with a 77 OVR rating. It drops off to 71 OVR for junior David Cormier. Someone will need to emerge right away from a young group of players in the 60s, most likely as slot receivers who will be called upon to move the chains. When all else fails, B-Dawg can go deep to Remsberg to get out of trouble.

    KADE WAGUESPACK

    TIGHT ENDS
It was a roll of the dice when B-Dawg chose to throw to his tight ends last season. As a group, tight ends caught 27 passes, but also had 11 drops. That’s not a great ratio, particularly because passes to the tight end tended to be in situations in which the Falcons were trying to convert on third down. Incumbent starter Kade Waguespack, a senior, and sophomore Chris Kane are both 73 OVR. Waguespack will start again after averaging 15.0 yards per catch last year, grabbing 23 balls for 346 yards and two touchdowns. B-Dawg is nervous about his nine drops, so Kane could end up starting of Waguespack exhibits hands of stone.

    SCOTT HATTOK

    OFFENSIVE LINEMEN
One of these years, Air Force will actually have a good offensive line. This is not that year. Nobody is rated in the 80s, though 79 OVR senior left tackle Scott Hattok, 79 OVR junior left guard Nolan Laufenberg and 79 OVR senior center Connor Vikupitz might progress into that range as the season goes along. With 77 OVR junior Parker Ferguson at right tackle and 70 OVR senior Garrett Watts at right tackle, the Falcons will run the ball almost exclusively toward the left side of the line, for better or worse. There’s not much help waiting in the wings, with 69 OVR freshman center Graham Lakin the most promising of the reserves.

    JORDAN JACKSON

    DEFENSIVE LINEMEN
One of the most exciting storylines for the Falcons in 2019 is the development of junior defensive end Jordan Jackson. Jackson tied for the team high with eight sacks last season and has progressed to 91 OVR, making him one of the top-rated defensive players in the Mountain West Conference. Mosese Fifita, a 79 OVR senior defensive tackle, tied Jackson with eight sacks last year. In four-man fronts, the other starters will be 72 OVR junior Brandon Gooding at right end and 71 OVR sophomore Kamakani Crosby at tackle.

    LAKOTA WILLS

    LINEBACKERS
Now that he’s the only linebacker with a rating in the 80s at 81 OVR, much is expected from 81 OVR junior outside linebacker Lakota Wills. Wills had 45 tackles, three sacks and two interceptions last season. He’ll have to carry the load for the linebackers, because the other starters in a three-man unit are 74 OVR senior Kyle Johnson at middle linebacker and 70 OVR junior Parker Noren at left outside linebacker. B-Dawg mixes up his formations, often having only two linebackers on the field, which might not be a bad thing with this group.

    JEREMY FEJEDELEM

    DEFENSIVE BACKS
On the back end, the Falcons actually have a fairly legit secondary with 84 OVR senior Jeremy Fejedelem and 81 OVR senior Garrett Kauppila manning the safety positions. Fejedelem led Air Force with 73 tackles, seven deflections and two fumble recoveries last season. Kauppila was third on the team with 67 tackles. Senior Zane Lewis and junior Milton Bugg were the team’s top two cornerbacks last year, but at 75 and 73 OVR, respectively, won’t strike fear into many quarterbacks. Lewis was fourth on the team with 57 tackles and Bugg was fifth with 46 tackles, picking off three passes.

    JAKE KOEHNKE

    SPECIAL TEAMS
Jake Koehnke, an 80 OVR senior kicker, wasn’t trusted with long field goal attempts last season. He was 7-for-9, with his longest field goal being only 32 yards. He had only two touchbacks in 80 kickoffs. B-Dawg hopes he’ll be able to make kicks in the 40-yard range, but may have to go for it on fourth down in those situations rather than risk coming up empty. Freshman David Chapeau is only 74 OVR, but has a promising future if he progresses at the right rate. Charlie Scott, a 75 OVR senior, returns to punt after averaging only 37.9 yards per punt, but putting 14 of 34 inside the 20. In an effort to prevent one of his players from getting an undeserved Returner of the Year award, B-Dawg will have freshman Luc Sturbelle return kickoffs and senior James Jones return punts. Sturbelle will be taken off kickoffs if he shows up as an awards semifinalist and hasn’t done anything to deserve it.

        Re: 2019 NATIONAL PREVIEW

Great preview of the team for the upcoming season! Will be interesting to see how the Air Raid attack is able to function this season with what looks to be a better HB corps than receiving corps. Non-conference schedule looks to be fairly winnable for you, are you just scheduling what the game gives you, trying to follow the real life schedule, or just scheduling your own? Also, funny to see that Washington won the 2018 title over Oklahoma in your file, same thing happened in mine!

I am doing my own scheduling. Army and Navy show up every year on my schedule. I could actually change those games if I wanted to, but they are a must. That leaves me with only two nonconference opponents every year, which kind of sucks because I like the variety of playing different teams and going to different venues. I've leaned toward a cupcake schedule, quite frankly, because I'm having enough trouble qualifying for bowl games with my regular schedule. Normally, I schedule a game at Michigan (my favorite team) early in a dynasty, even if it means I'll take a beat-down, but I've stayed away from that through my first five seasons.

It's crazy how we both had the same national championship result. EA Sports plays favorites, for sure.

You just made my day by checking in! Thanks! It's seemed quieter over here than I remember. I don't know if fewer people are reading dynasty reports or if my stuff so far just sucks.

              Air Force halfbacks achieve rarity
              in opening victory over Colorado

BOULDER, Colo. — Joseph Saucier doesn’t want to be known as that guy who only comes in to give Kadin Remsberg a breather.

More than just a placeholder, Saucier ran 25 times for 106 yards and three touchdowns for Air Force in a season-opening 45-27 victory at Colorado on Aug. 31, 2019.

              And Remsberg?

Let’s just say he was doing Kadin Remsberg things.

The speedy junior running back had the third 200-yard receiving performance of his career, hitting 200 yards on the button on eight catches, scoring two touchdowns. He did so after losing four yards on his first catch of the game.

If it sounds like a rarity to have one running back rush for 100 yards and another hit triple digits receiving, it’s because it is. In a coaching career that goes back to NCAA ’04, this has happened only twice for a team coached by B-Dawg.

It happened in back-to-back games when B-Dawg was coaching Michigan in NCAA ’12 with two players he wrote about when they were in high school in the Flint, Mich. area. Thomas Rawls of Flint Northern ran for 138 yards and Justice Hayes of Grand Blanc had 123 receiving yards against Ohio State on Nov. 28, 2015 in that version of the game. In the next contest, Rawls had 120 rushing yards and Hayes had 144 receiving yards against Wisconsin in the Big Ten Conference championship game.

Saucier reached the 100-yard mark with a 30-yard run with 18 seconds left in the game.

“We are going to be a much more dangerous team if we can throw a fresh running back at people, make them respect the run, then hit Kadin for the deep ball,” B-Dawg said. “Back when I was at Michigan, Justice was almost like having a receiver in the backfield, so we lined him up in the slot and let Thomas tote the rock.”

In all, B-Dawg has coached 23 games in which he had a 100-yard rusher and 100-yard receiver from the running back position. Vanderbilt’s Bryant McClellan (NCAA ’07) did it seven times, a record Remsberg is sure to break.

Eventually, Air Force won’t have the 96 SPD of Remsberg to bail it out of trouble, but it was certainly good to have his wheels available against Colorado. With Colorado leading 17-14, Remsberg hauled in a 59-yard touchdown pass from Donald Hammond, who was 18-for-30 for 355 yards and two touchdowns.

After the Buffaloes responded with a touchdown, Hammond hit Remsberg with a 56-yard scoring strike with 10 seconds to go in the first half to give the Falcons a 28-24 lead at the break. The Falcons used two timeouts on Colorado’s last drive of the half and got the ball back with 17 seconds to go, more than enough time to hit Remsberg for six.

After the teams traded field goals in the third quarter, Air Force got some breathing room when Saucier scored on a 3-yard run with 6:06 left in the game. Saucier added a 1-yard touchdown run with 56 seconds remaining.

On the drive that put the Falcons up by two possessions, Remsberg made an 8-yard catch on third-and-9 from the 10. On fourth and inches, fullback Cole Fagan moved the ball to just outside the goal line. Saucier lost three yards total on the next two plays before scoring on third-and-goal on an ISO play.

“We figured we were in four-down territory,” B-Dawg said. “Joseph took away the decision from me, scoring easily.”

              Robo-QB and unstoppable back

For a while there, it didn’t look like Air Force would be able to stop Colorado quarterback Steven Montez or running back Beau Bisharat.

Montez went full robo-QB by completing his first 10 passes, while Bisharat made the Falcons’ defenders his beeyotch by running them over on his way to 115 yards on 15 carres in the first half.

The Falcons slowed him down in the second half, as he finished with 143 yards on 20 carries while Colorado failed to get into the end zone after halftime.

“I just thought we were going to play one of those high 40s, low 50s games you expect to see in a video game, not real football,” B-Dawg said. “We switched to some 3-4 man looks and it seemed to work. It might not work next week, but it seemed to give Colorado problems.”

Joseph Saucier ran 25 times for 106 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Re: B-Dawg's Air Force Falcons: Flying high A.F.

You just made my day by checking in! Thanks! It's seemed quieter over here than I remember. I don't know if fewer people are reading dynasty reports or if my stuff so far just sucks.[/QUOTE]

Yea, I couldn't tell ya, I've been largely absent once you quit and Mudcat slowed down (think he's using another name here). I can tell you I'll be back daily now! By the way, I was on those MM boards as well, wish there was a way to go back and read all those classics.

They should pay you to post on here.

Random ish I think about: Just the other day, I wondered if that entire site still exists offline and could be turned on if someone bought the domain name. Or is everything gone forever?

I saved everything I wrote starting in NCAA 2004 and every photo. If I was ever inclined to reconstruct one of those old dynasties (and I'm not), I could.

God I would get nothing done for like a week if that site was turned back on. Think about the timing, all those classic PS2 versions of the NCAA/Madden series from the early-mid 2000's. Freakin' heyday...

Already hard to come up with superlatives for Remsberg, and with Saucier hopefully giving you some more consistency running the ball, it could be a very good year for the Air Force offense! Robo-QB mode was one of the few things I disliked about NCAA '14, seems like you couldn't avoid it at times unless you bumped the difficulty down to varsity.

That's when video games were most fun to me. I was just getting into them (right around the age of 40) and was playing a fair amount online, so connecting with people in that community for some straight online games was part of the fun. I still keep in touch with some of the guys I used to play against, even though some moved on to the PS4 or next-gen XBox or some aren't really playing much now. I played one of the guys in NCAA '14 about two years ago and had a great game. He moved and said his PS3 is still packed away - I think he's just ducking me.

I still have a PS2 and copies of NCAA 2003 and 2004. I LOVED 2004! Probably because it was the first version that you could play online, so it was kind of like a first love. I've thought how fun it might be to dust them off (and I still have a memory card that SHOULD have the rosters), but there would be so many gameplay features missing that we take for granted now that the luster might wear off pretty quickly.

Robo-QB mode was one of the few things I disliked about NCAA '14, seems like you couldn't avoid it at times unless you bumped the difficulty down to varsity.
I swear, I just feel like putting down the controller and letting the CPU pick my defense and watch the play unfold. It's like I have zero control sometimes. I wound up dropping the CPU QB accuracy a little bit and the CPU WR catching slider a little bit in my third or fourth season, because otherwise I was just going to hate my life every time I play this game. It's made a minor difference, enough to make things bearable.

I've heard that some people have come up with varsity sliders that make the game play well. I can't imagine it would be a challenge on varsity mode (All-American with sliders in the CPU's favor has always become too easy for me), but maybe the slider gurus have found the secret sauce somehow.

always nice to kick off a new season with a win.

I follow a dude named Flemlo Raps on YouTube. His dynasties are off the hook! He does commentary while playing his games. He cracks me up. He hasn't posted a dynasty video in a couple years though. I wish I could do something like that, though I would make my videos shorter than his. I'm not sure people want to watch long videos (that's what I'm told in my real job in the newspaper business, where I do a lot of video).

                              2019 SEASON, GAME 2

Central Michigan quarterback Tony Poljan stiff-arms air as he scores on a 13-yard run.

                              Robo-TE?
Central Michigan QB simply can’t miss
in high-scoring victory over Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Is a tight end the greatest robo-QB of all-time?

Tony Poljan of Central Michigan certainly staked a claim to being the CPU QB1 #GOAT in the Chippewas’ 55-49 victory over Air Force on Sept. 7, 2019.

In real life, Poljan played quarterback at CMU for his first two seasons before moving to tight end in 2019, then transferring to Virginia for his senior year in 2020.

On the 2018 season roster B-Dawg downloaded from Operation Sports community editors, Poljan is still a quarterback — and not necessarily an overly impressive one, based on his ratings. The red-shirt junior is only 79 OVR, one of the lower-rated quarterbacks to start against Air Force in the first two seasons of this dynasty.

He completed only 51.7% of his passes in real life for CMU in 2018 — hence the move to tight end.

But against the Falcons, cyber Poljan had B-Dawg wondering why he even bothered trying to pick a defense.

Poljan simply couldn’t miss, completing 38 of 42 passes for 387 yards and four touchdowns. He completed his first 11 passes, as the Chippewas jumped out to a 17-0 lead. Poljan did not overthrow or underthrow a pass the entire game, as his four misses were on deflections by Zane Lewis and James Jones, a dropped pass and an intentional throwaway.

“I don’t think he could have been more accurate throwing against air with his boys during summer workouts,” B-Dawg said. “It was like ratings don’t even mean anything if a 79 OVR quarterback can be so surgically accurate. Yes, we have defensive issues, but Central Michigan shouldn’t be able to shred us like that.”

Kadin Remsberg hauled in 10 passes for 248 yards and 3 touchdowns.

                              Balanced attack

Six different Chippewas had at least 42 receiving yards. By contract, the Falcons were heavily reliant upon the speed of quarterback Donald Hammond and running back Kadin Remsberg. Hammond was the team’s leading rusher with 180 yards on 17 carries and Remsberg had his fourth career 200-yard receiving performance with 248 yards and three touchdowns on 10 catches.

“Donald is great and Kadin is special, but we really need to develop some balance if we’re going to be successful beyond the first three years of this dynasty,” B-Dawg said. “A defense wouldn’t hurt, either.”

Remsberg had touchdown catches of 79, 48 and 30 yards. Tight end Kade Waguespack hauled in a 79-yard touchdown pass for the Falcons.

                              Lucky break

Down 31-21 at halftime, the Falcons could have seized moment if they stopped the Chippewas on the first possession of the second half.

Air Force looked like it might get the stop it needed when Brandon Childress fumbled outside the goal line after making a catch. However, Drayton Law was right there to recover the ball just over the goal line to extend CMUs’s lead.

“Our defense was getting torched,” B-Dawg said. “We needed that break. We had a player right there to recover it, but their guy got there first. That’s the kind of game it was. Call it a robo fumble recovery.”

                              Playing catch-up

Air Force chased the game after falling behind 17-0. The Falcons got within 38-35 with 53 seconds left in the third quarter on back-to-back short touchdown runs by Joseph Saucier, but CMU responded by scoring the next 14 points.

The Falcons still had a chance when Remsberg caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Hammond with 56 seconds left in the game, but the ever-predictable suction onside kick recovery by CMU receiver Cameron Cole sealed Air Force’s fate.

He hasn't posted a dynasty video in a couple years though. I wish I could do something like that, though I would make my videos shorter than his. I'm not sure people want to watch long videos (that's what I'm told in my real job in the newspaper business, where I do a lot of video).
I would love to throw some commentary on a video for you. I love that stuff.
