Frank’s record breaking day propels Razorbacks to first win
Written September 26, 2020
Going on the road to College Station to play a ranked Aggies team, nobody gave the 0-4 Razorbacks a chance. But a massive second half led by star receiver Jonathan Frank gave the Razorbacks their first win in blowout fashion. Frank would score his 4th touchdown of the half in the final minute to set the final score at 66-42.
A&M would strike first from a yard out, but Arkansas answered with 2 straight touchdowns to go up 14-7 in the first. Then it looked like A&M had woken up as they punched in three touchdowns in the ground to flip it to 28-14. After exchanging scores, Arkansas was driving late in the half.
A drop on second and long by freshman Derrick McDonald on what would have been a touchdown looked like it would stall the drive and the Razorbacks would be forced to settle for a long field goal attempt. But a big conversion would set McDonald up for redemption as he would get a big 23-yard touchdown with just seconds left to pull within 1 score.
It’s unknown what coach Flight said at halftime, but it clearly worked as the second half was all Razorbacks. Two straight touchdowns by Jonathan Frank would give them a lead before the Aggies scored once again from a yard out.
After Arkansas got their third rushing touchdown of the day from their third different player, an Anthony Mays interception completely changed the game. Arkansas would reel off 17 more points including 2 record breaking touchdowns by Frank and a second interception by Anthony Mays to seal the game.
Frank would break the school record for receptions in a game (previously 13) on the first touchdown of the fourth quarter, and the records for yards (303) and touchdowns (3) in a game on the second in what would be the greatest game by an Arkansas receiver in school history by far.
Arkansas moves to 1-4 on the season and looks like a new team. Quarterback Brian Bradford has 1439 yards and 15 touchdowns over the last 3 games and has cemented himself as the starter after a rough first two weeks. The defense is still struggling, especially against the run as they gave up 329 yards and 6 touchdowns on the ground today, but they forced 4 turnovers in key situations for enough to win the game.
Coach Flight may have cooled his seat for the time being, but things don’t get any easier. The Razorbacks travel to Missouri next week before returning home to play the current number 2 team in the country in South Carolina. The path to a bowl game looks bleak but if the Razorbacks keep playing like this they have a chance.

Freshman Derrick McDonald gets his first career touchdown before half.

Jonathan Frank spins past a defender for the first of four touchdowns.

A strip fumble on A&M TE Chad Turner was one of four turnovers forced on the day.
