Texas | Harris will not play against Ole Miss

Russell Warner has confirmed that junior cornerback Denver Harris will not play against Ole Miss this weekend after suffering a concussion in the week one victory over Mississippi State. Terrance Brooks, who had two interceptions in that win will move into the slot position to fill the void left by Harris.

"He wasn't cleared by doctors to go this week," Warner told the press after practice today. "We expect he will be back next week against Arkansas. He's disappointed to be sitting but you just can't take the risk with these types of things."

Texas | Su'a Benched, Ford will start

Warner also confirmed reports that sophomore linebacker Leviticus Su'a will be benched in favor of senior Jaylan Ford this week. Su'a missed a few crucial tackles in the 31-21 win over the Bulldogs, none bigger than the one that led to a 21-yard touchdown run by Sawyer Robertson.

Ford, who replaced Su'a after that missed tackle finished the game with 3 tackles, 2 for a loss, and a sack.

"It's about carrying yourself in the right way," Warner said. "Sadly, Levi made the same stupid mistake three times. We have talked, he understands what he needs to do better and I am sure, knowing him he will come back from this stronger."

I am indeed using the mod. I have used it for NFL declaration and player progression. I like the fact you get both progression and regression, its so much well rounded compared to the standard progression system in the game.

Oxford, Mississippi -- Trevonte' Citizen took Ole Miss' first two offensive snaps in for 75, and 65-yard touchdowns that split either side of a 35-yard Kevin Tremblay field goal for Texas left the score at 13-3 to the Rebels, leaving the Texas team stunned and red-faced on the sideline. However, that wouldn't be how the game would continue and once the Texas defense finally had a chance to catch their breath they settled down and the Longhorns would run out 20-16 winners on a wet Saturday afternoon in Oxford.

Citizen finished the game 200-yards and 2 touchdowns on just 10 carries. The only saving grace from that statistic if you are looking at it from a Texas standpoint is the defense held the sophomore to 56-yards on his 8 other carries.

If you were on the Rebels sideline, or in the crowd you really would be asking yourself how you lost this one!

"What can you do when the kid burst through the seam, twice in a row and takes it home?" Texas head coach Russell Warner said after the game. "From a neutral standpoint you applaud, but from an opposing coach standpoint, you pull your defense to one side, tell them to buckle up, and don't let it happen again. You have to credit my defense and my defensive coordinator for doing exactly what I asked them to do."

Cade Klubnik was sacked no less than five times by the Rebels defense and the junior looked hurried all game. That didn't stop him from finishing the game with a 64% (18-28) completion percentage, he also threw for 223-yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. If you looked at Le'Veon Moss total yardage of 101 you would be led to believe the Texas rushing attack had improved since last week but the sophomore running back gained 31 of those yards as the Longhorns ran out the clock. Xander Weems and Yardley Gibson both caught touchdown passes today, with Weems leading the team in receptions with 5 but it was once again Jaivon Ramsey whose 94-yards receiving proved vital in the Longhorns comeback.

The Longhorn's defense may have been torched by the Rebels early in the game but it was thanks to a Vernon Broughton sack in the fourth quarter that Texas came away from Vaught Hemingway Stadium with the win. The sack on Ty Simpson put the Rebels in a fourth and long situation and whilst in a high-pressure situation fullback Matt Nunez would drop the all-important reception and hand the Longhorns the ball back with just 1:24 left on the clock. Texas could well welcome back Denver Harris next week but Terrance Brooks hasn't played badly in his sted and the junior cornerback led the Longhorns in tackles today with 6, he also registered a tackle in the Rebels backfield.

The Takeaway: Through the first two games of the season Ole Miss running back Trevonte' Citizen has rushed for 408-yards, 3 touchdowns on 38 carries, he leads the SEC and NCAA in both categories.

Next Week, Texas (2-0, 2-0) return home to face off against rivals Arkansas (1-0, 0-0). The Longhorns lead the rivalry overall 57-23 with their last win coming in 2021 having lost last year's game in overtime 34-31.

Cade Klubnik will be extremley sore after taking 5 sacks today.

Nice win! Love those Ole Miss powder blue uniforms. Also, I think you may need to have a bit of a talk with the O-Line coach...

Ole Miss will always have a place in my heart. I have an offline dynasty with them also and those Powder Blues are my favorites.

The O-Line will have a stern talking too, but it was Le'Veon Moss who gave up two sacks in that game so I won't put all the blame on them.

Texas | Harris given all clear

Denver Harris missed last weekend's win over Ole Miss and his presence in the slot was missed despite Terrance Brooks's performance.

"Harris was missed last week," Warner said after practice today. "He was missed in the run defense, he makes plays in the opposition backfield that we didn't make against Ole Miss. It will be good to have him back but don't discredit Terrance, that kid can ball and he will be a big part of this defense this season."

Texas | Naeem Phillips to take an official visit this weekend

Four-Star running back and the nation's 52nd overall recruit will be in Austin this weekend as he is set to take his official visit to campus. 247Sports reports that the Longhorns are warm and most likely to secure the commitment of Phillips, who is said to have Texas ranked No.1 above Oklahoma, Alabama, Air Force, and Wyoming.

Reports coming out of Grapevine High School where Phillips attends, although a Carrollton native is that Phillips could cut his list down after his visit to Texas. Phillips holds scholarship offers from Alabama, Wyoming, North Mexico State, and UTEP.

I am following the same method that Hellisan uses to create "realistic injuries" The Career of J.D. Clark (NCAA 14). It's basically done during random numbers a few different ways. I also, like Hellisan take not of hard hits in the game, and Harris did infact get a mild concussion in the game so I just followed real-life procedure.

Once Citizen did that, and the Rebels looked like scoring every time early in the game I knew I had to do something, and that something was controlling the clock.
