Welcome to the AFL Spring Professional Football (APF2K8)

I'm sure some of you follow my Florida State Dynasty here on Operation Sports that can be found here:

Now, along with that FSU series, I want to start a new Storyline. Feel free to include your input. The opening weekend of USFL gave me an idea. Within my dynasty, there are several talented players within that dynasty (FSU and non FSU based) That go undrafted. So like the USFL, the newly renovated AFL gives undrafted players a place to continue their careers.

This storyline/franchise will be comprised of undrafted players within the Dynasty as well as Fictional players a chance to play and continue their careers.

The AFL will be played using created teams from APF 2K8. It will be comprised of 6 to 8 teams for it's initial season, possibily adding more after the first year. Teams , locations etc will be announced soon with a draft similar to the USFL.

Rosters will be a 33 player roster. If you would like for a fictional player or two to be added to this league for it's initial draft, please give:
Name, Position, Height, Weight and School.

*There are no guarantees your player will be drafted, however, non drafted players will have a storyline attached to them.

The American Football League was what the AFC was before the merger with the NFL. I am now bringing back the AFL as a Spring League with a rich storyline to see how big it can become. Will it falter like the AAFL? Will it thrive like the CFL? Will it become as big as the NFL? Who knows. But season one is around the corner.

    Welcome, to my AFL dynasty.

          TOP AFL PROSPECTS

There are a number of prospects that have been elected to be apart of the first ever AFL Draft. Prospects ranging from Power 5 D-1 players, to D-III athletes. These players come from all types of backgrounds , all in hopes of receiving either their first ever Professional contract, or to continue a professional career they once had. We will highlight some of the more coveted prospect that have impressed scouts and coaches during Pre-Draft workouts, and will be looking for their name to be called in the inaugural AFL Draft.

          1. QB SERAJII CALDWELL 6'7" 260 - TEXAS A&M(New York Jets)(NCAA Dynasty)

Caldwell was a former Five-Star recruit who was the #1 overall player in his class coming out of High School. He has elite size, runs a reported 4.57 - 40, and might have one of the strongest arms to date. Caldwell lead the Aggies to a College Football Playoff appearance, and was drafted in the First Round of the NFL draft. However, a suspension to the leagues PED Policy lead to a suspension from the league. Caldwell is expected to be a pretty high draft pick in the AFL as he has all the tools needed to be a Franchise Quarterback, and eventually land back into the NFL.

          2. WR FLASH JONES 6'5" 200 - USC

Flash Jones is one of the more complete WRs in the AFL Draft. Length, Catch Radius, Speed, he has it all. A former composite Five-Star was a gem for USC's recruiting class. During his Freshman campaign he was a Biletnikoff Award winner with 106 catches for 1,824 yards and 19 Touchdowns. During the summer of that following year, Jones was arrested due to accusations of domestic violence. A year later, the charges were dropped and case was dismissed. By that time two seasons have passed. Jones however worked out in front of AFL Scouts and the ability is still there. Jones is a player that AFL teams will heavily covet.

          3. WR CARMELO CLANCY 5'11" 205 - FSU(NCAA Dynasty)

Clancy is one of those rugged guys who is willing and ready to outwork anyone. A former three-star recruit signed with Georgia Tech out of High School where he played Running Back. Clancy, was behind 4 future NFL Backs at the time, and decided to make the switch from Running Back to Nickel Back the following year where he earned Team MVP Honors amassing 62 tackles 8 pass breakups and 4 interceptions. However, when Head Coach Cameel Verner bolted from Georgia Tech to Florida State(NCAA Dynasty), Clancy followed him to Tallahassee. Clancy yet again switched positions when arriving at Florida State where he played WR for his final two years of eligibility. His final season as a Seminole, he finished with 38 catches for 600 yards a 4 Touchdowns. Clancy went on to play for the Houston Roughnecks and St. Louis Battlehawks of the XFL before they ceased operations. Clancy will be a huge steal for any team in the AFL.

          4. QB ELI KING 5'11" 185 - LSU

Eli King has impressed coaches in Pre-Draft Camps. He has a very lively arm, accurate and very vocal. He's caught the attention of many scouts. While at LSU, King never broke the rotation as he nursed injuries for the duration of his career. His Senior season, LSU Medically DQ'd him for the season. Now fully healthy, King looks to revitalize his Football Career. And coaches while still concerned about his previous injury history, still believe he's one of the better talents in the draft.

          5. LB TY'SHALL MCBEE 6'5" 255- FLORIDA STATE(NCAA Dynasty)

McBee might be one of the most athletic players in all of the AFL Draft. At 6'5" 255, McBee runs a 4.43 and a 44" inch vertical. McBee was a top 50 recruit coming out of High School.

While at FSU, McBee was an integral part to their sucess and their run at two National Championships. However, entering his Redshirt Junior year, was arrested then later removed from the team.

Now, McBee looks to revitalize his Professional Career in the AFL. McBee will look to be one of the highly drafted players as he has the skillset that scouts are drooling over.

          6. CB CHAZ BARNES 6'2" 195 - LSU

Barnes is an interesting story. The former Five-Star recruit was highly sought after during the recruiting process. He signed with LSU but never played a single down in the Bayou. During his Freshman year he was Academically Ineligible to play for the Tigers. During his true Sophomore year, Barnes left the team for "personal reasons". Barnes then, 19 , revealed he was about to be a dad of twins. The rigors of college life and being a dad seemed to get to Barnes which ultimately led him removing himself from football. Barnes, clearly still having an itch wanting to play, has been invited to the AFL Draft instead of trying options of getting back into school. Barnes definitely has NFL potential, but not enough film for him to make that jump.

          7. LB CADE MCARTHUR - 6'3" 255 - ARMY

McArthur is a tackling machine, however he's spent the last 4 years in the Army after graduating. While at Army, he was the Black Knights leading tackler all four years there. Instead of trying his options in the NFL, he was forced to continue to serve his country with the battles of Afghanistan on-going. The Army has given McArthur a pardon to pursue his dream of a Professional Football player, and if the Pre-Draft Camps are any indication, McArthur will be a huge get for any AFL team that drafts him. He's rangy, instinctive and a sure tackler.

          8. TITUS RIVAS - 6'2 214 - NC State(NCAA Dynasty)

Rivas was a huge peice to the NC State offense. However he was not selected to the NFL, and is opting to continue his career in the AFL if drafted. Film doesn't lie for this guy. He's a natural leader and a true dual threat Quarterback. At NC STATE, he totaled 5,515 passing yards and 2,017 rushing yards.

          9. SAPOMO ONTAGWU 6'2" 225 - SOUTHERN MISS(JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS)- (NCAA DYNASTY)

Ongtagwu was a former Five-Star recruit who committed and played two seasons at Florida State under Cameel Verner. He was then released from the team and ultimately dismissed from school and finished his collegiate career closer to home in his home state of Mississippi at Southern Miss. Ontagwu was drafted in the 5th round after being projected as a First Rounder while at Florida State. Ontagwu played one year in the league before being released in his second year during mini camp.

          10. DE COOTER MCSCOOTER 6'6" 265 - SMU

McScooter was a late bloomer. He had a very good Senior Season at SMU but wasnt selected in the NFL Draft. However, during the Pre-Draft Camps, McScooter has turned heads. He beholds elite size for a Defensive End, and can be an elite pass rusher for any team that selects him. He has a huge motor that the scouts love especially at the Defensive End position. Pass Rushers will be at a premium and McScooter will be one to keep an eye on.

          11. RB TOMMY SWEET 5'10" 205 - CENTRAL MICHIGAN

Sweet had a very underwhelming collegiate career. During his first four years he wasnt a main contributor, but during his 5th year as a Redshirt Senior, Sweet turned heads. He averaged 6.3 yards per carry finishing the year with 1,107 yards and 8 Touchdowns. Sweet wasn't on many scouts radar, but during Pre-Draft Workouts he ran an unexpected 4.38 forty which turned a lot of heads. Sweet is definitely one to watch.

          12. MATT HOWARD 6'0" 200 - WISCONSIN

Howard played two seasons at Wisconsin and led them to a 15-8 record. He has above average arm strength but the coaches absolutely love his intelligence level. Howard has been labeled as one of the smartest Quarterbacks in the AFL Draft. It will be interesting to see where he lands, because Franchises know their team will go only as far as the QB they draft take them. And during Pre Draft Workouts, Howard has proved he can be one of the best that the league has to offer.

          13. JERRELL HORN 6'1" 190 - FLORIDA STATE (NCAA Dynasty)

Horn played five years under Cameel Verner at Florida State and has 3 championships to boot. He started sparingly but served as a great back-up to the Seminoles. Pre Draft Camps proved how loaded the Seminoles are in the secondary because Horn definitely has the tools to be a lockdown Cornerback. Horn doesn't allow much separation from WRs during drills and is a ballhawk in every sense of the word.

          14. BRICK HUNTER 6'2" 245 - HARVARD

Hunter was an Ivy League All-American for 3 years and just finished his Masters Degree in Neurology. Hunter chose to finish his education as opposed to joining the NFL Draft after his Senior Season. Now done with school, Hunter is trying his hand at Professional Football, and he's a very stout , fast and instinctive traditional Middle Linebacker. Hunter will be a huge pick up for any team that opts to draft him.

          15. OT MARQUIS MCBRIDE 6'8" 340 - TENNESSEE(NCAA Dynasty)

McBride is a Massive Tackle that has won a ton of reps during Pre-Draft Camps. During his time at Tennessee he started 18 games, but his career was cut short due to a catastrophic knee injury. NFL scouts thought a guy of his size and stature couldn't come back and be the same dominant mauler he once was. However, now fully rehabbed, AFL scouts love him. His knee still is a concern, but could be a huge pickup.

            OUTLOOK:

SERAJII CALDWELL, who most believe has the highest chance of being the top pick of the inaugural AFL Draft definitely has the tools to lead an AFL Franchise. However, the strongest position in this draft would be the Linebacker group. There is a ton of Linebacker talent in this draft to build around. More recently, Former UNC Walk-On LB Lonnie Flowers has been noticed by a ton of scouts during Pre-Draft Workouts and may earn himself a spot on an AFL team this Spring.

Also, WR Mike McIvor of Pitt has also turned some heads. While not the fastest receiver for the group, McIvor has routinely made impressive grabs over the week and his impressive size of 6'3" 215 is appeasing. Former Texas WR Tyree Davis also had his most impressive workout of the week on yesterday. We will see if that impressive day will earn Davis a chance at a roster spot.

QB Jonathon Gore of Auburn moved up recently in most mock drafts as he's been extremely consistent during the workout process. Gore and former Clemson QB Dennis Cronin have been battling back and forth to receive that top 5 honors of camp thus far.

                  2022 AFL ROSTERS RELEASED

The 2022 season is around the corner! And the AFL has released the teams rosters for the upcoming season.

                  BIRMINGHAM CRUSADERS
                  Head Coach: Tim Beckman

AFL Take:A well constructed roster with emphasis on playmaking and defense. The Crusaders are stout up front on both sides of the ball. Their biggest strength is the front seven. And former First Round pick Serajii Caldwell has plenty of options to choose from at Wideout.

                  CHESAPEAKE VENOM
                  Head Coach: DeAngelo Hall

AFL Take:Venom has some questions at Quarterback, but it's clear they are looking to be a defensive team. The Venom front office did a great job of building it's defense from the inside out. Premium pass rushers, stout Linebackers and veteran Defensive Backs. The Offense has playmakers that can make things happen, but Quarterback play will determine how far the team will go.

                  CEDAR RAPIDS MONARCHS
                  Head Coach: Eddie Rowe

AFL Take: The Monarchs drew the most questions about their draft process, which makes them everyone is looking forward to see come Week 1. However, They assembled a ton of speed and ability.

                  CAROLINA CLASH
                  Head Coach: Norv Turner

AFL Take: Norv Turner is back on the sidelines and the Clash looks like a strong contender. They had a very tactical draft and put pieces together to fit Norv's system. Defensively they appear to be fast and aggressive. The Clash is definitely a team to keep an eye on.

                  ATLANTIC CITY FIREHAWKS
                  Head Coach: Bill Cowher

AFL Take:The Firehawks drafted exactly like what a Bill Cowher tema would look like. Lot of Strength , Physicality and Attitude. Cowher drafted Four Tight Ends so it's not really a question what the identity of this offense will be. Cowher returns to the Sidelines and we expect an aggressive physical team out of New Jersey.

                  OKLAHOMA CITY HITMEN
                  Head Coach: Bob Stoops

AFL Take:Without question, Stoops drafted the fastest team in the AFL. They have a ton of speed outside, and on the edge. Stoops also drafted the Quarterback the resembles the QBs of this college coaching career. So we expect the Hitmen to be contenders.

                  SHREVEPORT ROUGHRIDERS
                  Head Coach: Ed Orgeron

AFL Take:Presumably the early favorites to win it all is in Shreveport. The Roughriders have an abundance of playmakers and an Offensive Line to make things even better for a playmaker driven offense. Recievers Barcelo Williams and Peanut Purnell are as explosive as it gets.

                  MEMPHIS ELITE
                  Head Coach: Dan Mullens

AFL Take:Dan Mullen in his first Professional Coaching attempt has a heck of a roster to work with. Known as an offensive guru, it was no question he picked Weldon Plante to run his offense. Plante has won two national championships at Georgia Tech and has one of the higher IQs you'll see in a Quarterback. It will be fun to see a Dan Mullen offense at the Professinal level.

                        WEEK 2

With Week 1 behind us, we move on to Week 2 as the season attempts to unfold in front of our very eyes. We still have a ton of questions about some of these teams as the second week of the season approaches. What teams are actually contenders? What teams can bounce back? This week will be important for all 8 organizations as they continue to build the identity for themselves. And now we will preview all the games ahead for the second weekend of AFL Football.

                        CAROLINA CLASH @ BIRMINGHAM CRUSADERS

This game will be a battle of elite Quarterbacks. Week 1, both QBs willed their ways to victories and played practically flawless along the way. Crusader Quarterback Serajii Caldwell completed 72% of his passes for 370 yards 4 touchdowns and a league leading 154.4 QBR. On the flip side, Clash Quarterback Eli King completed a league high 85% of his passes finished AFL with a 151.9 QBR. If either team wants to win, it will be decided by elite Quarterback play.

MEMPHIS ELITE @ CEDAR RAPIDS MONARHS

The Monarchs couldn't get things going a week ago Offensively. #1 overall pick of the AFL Draft Tommy Sweet had a rough going with 22 carries for 3 yards. Monarch QB Jessiah Dior impressed in spurts during the game as well, but the Monarchs just weren't able to kick start anything throughout the game. The Elite played Birmingham last week impressively but lost steam as the game went on. Both teams entering Week 2 0-1, have a chance to turn things around in a hurry. Will the Monarchs and Tommy Sweet get things going? Will the Elite bounce back ? Week 2 is extremely important for both teams.

OKLAHOMA CITY HITMEN @ ATLANTIC CITY FIREHAWKS

On paper, this could very well be the game to watch. Atlantic City took the league by storm with it's dominating defense, shutting out the Monarchs a week ago while recording a league high 7 sacks. However, the Hitmen and Coach Bob Stoops show that they are an extremely dangerous offense that can score at the drop of a hat. Firehawk Quarterback Matt Howard leads the league in QBR at 157.5, while Manuel Terry seemed practically unguardable with 6 catches for 277 yards and 4 Touchdowns. This is a game where something has to give. Great Offense vs Great Defense. Will the pass rush of the Firehawks get to a hot pass happy Hitmen offense? Will the Hitmen offense get the better of a stifling Firehawk Defense? This will be one to watch.

                        SHREVEPORT ROUGHRIDERS @ CHESEPEAKE VENOM

Shreveport was the favorite to come in to win the AFL Championship this season. And they showed why last week. They have one of the most explosive offenses in the AFL, with playmakers all over the field. The Venom was tagged as a team that would be a defensive juggernaut, but fell short of those expectations last week. Defensive End Cooter McScooter leads the charge for the Venom defensively, while on offense Flash Jones (10 catches 155 yards) showed he's a guy you have to account for. The Venom will have another chance this week to prove their defensive prowess against a very explosive Roughrider offense.

                            WEEK 3 PREVIEW

As the young season continues, some huge games are on tap for this weekend in the AFL. Two AFL powerhouses collide in the game of the week the Crusdaders vs Roughriders. Which is the game everyone will have their eyes on.

CHESAPEAKE VENOM @ ATLANTIC CITY FIREHAWKS

The best defense in the AFL, will play host to a struggling Venom team. Venom QB D'Angelo Shaw has been one of the more consistent pieces to the team, but hasn't recived much help from his supporting cast to this point. Vemon led by Defensive End Cooter McScooter, will look to slow down a hot Atlantic City team.

Atlantic City Quarterback Matt Howard leads the AFL in QBR at 141.5, while Manuel Terry is the leagues leading WR (12 catches 338 yards 4 TDs). The Venom will have their work cut out for them as the Firehawk defense has yet to give up a touchown all season long.

                            MEMPHIS ELITE @ CAROLINA CLASH

This game is huge for both teams. The Clash got it's first win of the year last week while Memphis is still figuring things out. The Clash will love to continue to build on that win. Memphis appears to look as if they are going in a different direction, as Dennis Cronin will make his first start of the year against the clash replacing Weldon Plante who has struggled a bit up to this point. Both teams going into Week 3 are desperate for a win.

CEDAR RAPIDS MONARCHS @ OKLAHOMA CITY HITMEN

This game will be extremely interesting. The Monarchs notched a win last week which was much needed. However, their first overall pick Tommy Sweet has struggled all season long (43 carries, 42 yards 0.9 ypc). And the Hitmen who have one of the more explosive offenses in the AFL, are still winless on the year. Both teams still have a lot to prove in the early going of the year and this game can really define the season for both teams. Can Tommy Sweet finally find his groove? Can Titus Rivas and Bob Stoops notch their first victory of the year? A lot to unpack in this game as it is a huge one for both teams.

                            ***GAME OF THE WEEK***

                            BIRMINGHAM CRUSADERS @ SHREVEPORT ROUGHRIDERS

This game will be a great one. Both teams are on fire offensively. Shreveport has two explosive receivers in Barcelo Williams and Peanut Purnell. Birmingham has QB Serajii Caldwell. It's apparent the Crusaders go as the former Heisman Winner QB goes, who is making himself a case for AFL MVP early in the year. This will be a game of chess and who makes the first mistake could be the determining factor of the ball game.

                            AFL NEWS AND NOTES

                            MEMPHIS ELITE
