Good option with Jimmy. I think he can be a good fit for you until a long term QB is found.

FedEx Field - A slow start but a thrilling finish in the opening week for 2023 for the Washington Commanders. The Buffalo Bills came into this week as heavy favorites but the Commanders' defense attacked Josh Allen all game, putting pressure on him 8 times and finishing with 3 sacks. One of those pressures led to a first-half mistake by Allen when he threw an interception at midfield.

The Commanders scored the game's opening touchdown on the next possession from a perfect Jimmy Garropollo pass to the far corner of the endzone for Terry McLaurin. The Bills added a second field goal before the half to make it 7-6. Washington's defense was dominating for most of the second half but had an early miscue on a blown coverage leading to a 67-yard touchdown for the away team but that would be all the Commanders would give up the rest of the game.

The offense finally found a running game in the fourth quarter, scoring on an 84-yard drive finished off by a 2-yard Robinson run. Stefon Diggs fumbled on the next possession, giving Washington the ball back on the 40-yard line with the game tied at 14. The Commanders wasted as much time as they could, scoring on another short touchdown run to make it 21-14. Josh Allen drove his team down to the 8-yard line with 3 seconds left with a final chance to tie the game but William Jackson III broke up the pass to seal the win for the home fans.

MetLife Stadium - Rookie Nasir Compton had the game of his life in his home debut, returning a punt 80 yards for a touchdown on his first touch, and on his second touch, he returned a missed field goal 108 yards for a touchdown.

"Everything seemed like it was in slow motion. I saw my guys blocking, where the defenders were and I just ran around them. It was incredible." The rookie from Arizona State said after the game. "It is something that will never happen again but I'm enjoying this tonight."

On the other side of the field, Ron Rivera and his team were left frustrated all afternoon. "From the first play, this was a bad day. They had a 75-yard touchdown right away, then we go three and out and they return the punt for a touchdown. It just wasn't our day." Rivera elected to try a 53-yard field goal down 21-7 as the first half expired, a decision that backfired and cost him 7 points.

"In that position, I am thinking we get some points or go in 21-7 at the half. Them returning the missed field goal for a touchdown is unacceptable. All around it was embarrassing. Everyone must do better."

The returned touchdown was the backbreaker. Commanders made it 21-7 and were turning momentum before the half but that last touchdown took the fight out of them. In a position down 28-7, Washington was forced to throw the ball more than they liked and were consistently under pressure. Jimmy Garoppolo played well for being blitzed all game and finished with a season-high in yards. "Today was just a bad day. Write this one off and we go again next week against the Eagles."

Commanders look to bounce back after the embarrassing performance in New York. Jalen Hurt and the Eagles look to make it 3 straight wins after beating the 49ers and Dolphins to start the season.

"It is important that we get off to a fast start. Last week the Giants were running away with the game before we left the lockerroom. That cannot happen again."

FEDEX Field - The up-and-down start to the season continues for Washington with another close win at home. In week 1, the defense held Josh Allen in check for the narrow win, in week 2 the special teams and offense let Washington down then again in week 3 it was the defense holding Jalen Hurts to 14 total points.

"We have a great team, it is just taking some time to put all the pieces together." Jimmy Garoppolo said after the game. "Defense has been great all season, the offense is close to breaking out. Our running game is relentless at times and will tire defenses out. I feel the receivers and I are starting to connect. This could be a fun year."

The running game was held to 42 yards in the first half against the Eagles but Ron Rivera stuck with it. A heavy dose of Robinson Jr in the second half finally broke down the defense resulting in the 5th rushing touchdown of the season for Robinson Jr.

Trailing for most of the game, Hurts was forced to throw the ball to win. The Commanders defensive line dominated the second half, putting Hurts under pressure 8 times and sacking him 3 times.

Next week is another division game, this time against the Giants who just embarrassed the Commanders last week.
