                  BOILER UP!
Purdue Punishes UNLV in LA Bowl

Koy Beasley's pick six right before halftime swung the game.

                  Weather: Dome
                  TV: Regional TV
Site: SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, CA (70,240)

                  11/30/24
Inglewood, CA (AP) – UNLV's 2024 season ended at the hands of 13th-ranked Purdue as the Rebels were thumped 38-24 in the 2024 LA Bowl. The Rebels could not overcome three interceptions from Koy Beasley, including a 93 yard pick-six just before halftime, as Purdue took out their frustrations at just missing the College Football Playoffs.

UNLV would go up 7-0 on a Cameron Friel six yard touchdown pass to Corey Thompson Jr on the opening possesion of the game. Puruse answered with a long drive of their own, but settled for an 18 yard field goal from Spencer Porath.

The teams would exchange punts n the second quarter until the Boilermakers put together a short scoring drive that was capped off by a CJ Smith 24 yard touchdown reception from Hudson Card late in the second quarter.

The Rebels and Cameron Friel would move the ball down the field on the ensuing possession, moving into the redzone in the closing moments of the half. But on third and five from the Purdue 13, Koy Beasley jumped a route intended from Kaleo Ballungay, picked it off, and raced 93 yards for a touchdown to put the Boilermakers in front 17-7. That play completely swung the momentum heading into halftime and was a huge blow to the Rebels.

Coming out of the half, the Boilermakers went right down the field and scored on another Hudson Card touchdown pass, this one to Max Klare, and suddenly it was 24-7. The Boilermakers would then force a punt around midfield and they blocked it, setting themselves up with a short field. Three plays later, Hudson Card threw his third touchdown pass and the route was on as Purdue went up 31-7.

UNLV had an immediate answer though as on the first play after the kickoff, Cameron Friel connected with Corey Thompson Jr on an 81 yard touchdown. The two point conversion got the Rebels back to within two scores.

But Devin Mockobee would put the Rebels away early in the fourth quarter as he broke off a 60 yard touchdown run on third and 1 and this one was over.

The Rebels would get a couple of meaningless late game scores to make it look respectable. The key in this one was the four turnovers from Cameron Friel He threw three interceptions, all to Koy Beasley, amd had a lost fumble late in the game. Friel threw for a personal best 401 yards and three touchdowns in his final collegiate game.

Both teams piled up over 400 yards of offense, but UNLV only ran for 17 yards, while throwing for 426.

This is a big offseason for the Rebels as they will lose a ton of production to graduation and Coach BigJ will need to hit that recruiting trail hard. UNLV finsihed the 2024 season (7-6, 6-2) which is much better than the preseason pundits had predicted as they were pegged as a four win team.

Cameron Friel ended his UNLV career with a big stat line, but three interceptions.
