Exciting to see Toronto in the Cup Finals. I had them in my NHL 19 Franchise in the Finals too.

Maple Leafs are Stanley Cup Champions
              June 7 2024 leafscup1.png

Toronto, Ont. - The waiting is over. For the first time since 1967, the Toronto Maple Leafs are Stanley Cup champions.

The Maple Leafs defeated the Winnipeg Jets 4-1 on home ice last night to take home the cup in six games; the club’s 14th Stanley Cup.

“What a roller coaster of a season it’s been,” said Maple Leafs General Manager Nolan Reid. “To be able to life the cup is definitely a sign that we were meant to be here.”

On December 30, 2023, Toronto sat sixth in the Eastern Conference wild card spot with a 16-19-2 record with 34 points after a 5-2 home loss to the Seattle Kraken. They were also amidst a five-game losing streak and with just two wins in a 10-game span.

No time was wasted and after the game the Maple Leafs fired Head Coach P.K. Subban and the next day was replaced by Marion Gaborik.

The former NHL star turned things around in Toronto as posted a 27-16-3 record with the 45 remaining games left in the season.

“Marion turned our season around,” said Reid. “He brought in a system that everyone bought into and the results proved themselves on the ice.”

It’s beyond words to win the cup, said Gaborik. “I never did it as a player but to do it as a coach is just an awesome feeling. Everyone in the room believed in what we could do and we got it done.”

Prior the Stanley Cup celebration, the Conn Smythe (most valuable player during the playoffs) was awarded to Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews. Matthews had 12 goals and 33 points in 25 playoff games.

“It’s unbelievable and such an honour,” said Matthews. “I think anyone could have won this with the way we played during the playoffs.”

Right now, it’s time to enjoy the moment before getting back to work for the off-season, said Reid.

“This is our time, but in a week we have to shift our focus to the draft, resigning players and then free agency. We are going to be kept busy.”

The 2024 NHL Entry Draft takes place June 24, 2024 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Que. The Maple Leafs have four picks; a second-round pick and three seventh-round picks.

Thanks! This run reminds me of the 2019 St Louis Blues!

And with HLM25, the simming can be so inconsistent, I was surprised we won the cup finals!

Maple Leafs trade Jarnkrok to Penguins
                              July 1, 2024
Toronto, Ont - The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded forward Calle Jarnkrok, along with a second-round pick in 2025 (via Florida) to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the team announced today.

In return, the Maple Leafs obtain New York Rangers' first-round pick in 2025 and Minnesota's third-round pick in 2025 from the Penguins.

Jarnkok, 31, had 10 goals for 25 points in 74 games this season with the Maple Leafs while adding an additional goal and assist in 25 playoff games.

"This was a great opportunity for us to get a first round pick," said Maple Leafs General Manager Nolan Reid. "We had traded our 2025 first rounder last season and were without a first round pick the next three years (2024, 2024 and 2026).

Toronto has been busy on the opening of free agency day signing veteran forward Eric Staal, forward Colin White and defencemen Nathan Beaulieu and Christian Jaros.

Maple Leafs acquire Gourde from Kraken

                                gourde2.jpg

Toronto, Ont. - The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired forward Yanni Gourde from the Seattle Kraken, the team announced today.

In exchange, the Leafs send minor-league defenceman Kaedan Korczak and a second-round pick in 2025 to the Seattle Kraken. The Kraken will also retain 50 per cent of Gourde's $5.166 million cap hit which expires at the end of the 2024-25 season.

Gourde, 32, had 12 goals and 31 points in 80 games with the Kraken last season. Korczak, 23, had a goal and six points in 17 games with the Toronto Marlies after being acquired along with Jonathan Marchessault at the trade deadline.

Maple Leafs General Manager Nolan Reid said Gourde was a player the Leafs targeted during the trade deadline. "At the time the Kraken wouldn't budge but now we are fortunate to be able to acquire Yanni. He's a top-six and a depth scoring guy and has tons of playoff experience and two cups. He's another guy that can lead by example on an off the ice."

Gourde won two Stanley Cups with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020 and 2021.
