The Hub of Hockey: A Boston Bruins Dynasty

    Julien Steps Down

    Boston(AP)-
In a move that surprised everyone Boston Bruin's head coach Claude Julien has resigned after only one year on the job. He cited personal reasons and the loss to Montreal in the first round of the 2008 playoffs as the reason. His replacement is expected to be the relatively unknown B Mill. MB Mill is a graduate from the University of Michigan and has spent the last 3 season coaching hockey at a small highschool in Maine. He said that he is pleased to be the new head coach of such a historic organiation and has even promised the fans of Boston a Stanley Cup. He takes over an up and coming team that is full of talent with players such as Zdeno Chara, Marc Savard, Phil Kessel and Patrice Bergeron. Expectations for this young coach are high, will he thrive or buckle under the spot light of the Boston media?

Ok guys this is my first attempt at writing an NHL dynasty. I have written several Madden franchises and that went fairly well. I have been reading many of the great stories on here and am inspired to give it a try. So please bare with me and I hope you enjoy reading.

          2008-2009 Season Preview

(Marc Savard will be looked upon to lead the Bruins young offense in 2008)

The 08-09 season is expected to be a successful one for the Boston Bruins. After a surprise performance in last years playoffs a lot is expected from this young team.

          Forwards:
The Bruins offense is talented but for the most part inexperienced. The Bruins will look to Marc Savard to lead the way and be a role model for the younger forwards. Young wingers Phil Kessel and Milan Lucic have incredible talent and will need to play well for the Bruins to be successful.
          Grade: C+

          Defense:
Without a doubt defense is Boston's strength. Led by Zdeno Chara and Aaron Ward the defense will be expected to carry this team. Boston is loaded with talented defensemen such as Dennis Wideman, Shane Hnidy, and Andrew Ference.
          Grade: B+

          Goalies:
Tim Thomas is going to enter the season as the starter for the Bruins but he will have to play well with Manny Fernandez on the bench.
          Grade: B-

Phil Kessel lifts Bs Past Avs in Season Opener!

(Phil Kessel's goal in OT sends Boston away with a win.)

(AP)- The Boston Bruins started their 2008-2009 season last night with a bang gutting out a 4-3 win in overtime against the Colorado Avalanche. The Avs jumped out to a quick two goal lead in the first period with goals form Wojtek Wolski and John-Michael Liles. From that point on it was all Boston. Big Milan Lucic had a huge second period scoring two goals to tie the game at two and the rookie forward Blake Wheeler gave Boston a lead with his first of the year. The game went into the third with Boston leading 3-2 but it wouldn't stay that way. Avs veteran Milan Hejduk put a well placed wrister past Tim Thomas on the powerplay to tie the game and force OT. In the overtime period Phil Kessel forced a turnover and took it the length of the ice on the breakaway using a forehand-backhand deke to send Boston away with a win.

              Coach B Mill's Comments:
"I was pleased with the way we played tonight although we can play much better. Milan and Phil played great and were a big help to us. Our defense will need to tighten up, as well as our goaltending. I'm just glad we were able to beat a good team to start our season on the right foot."

              Boston Stats:
              Phil Kessel: 1 G(1), 2 A(2)

              Aaron Ward: 1 A(1)
              Tim Thomas(1-0): 28 S, 3 GA, 90.3 SV%

              Colorado Stats:
              Milan Hejduk: 1 G(1), 1 A(1)
              John-Michael Liles: 1 G(1)
              Wojtek Wolski: 1 G(1)
              Joe Sakic: 1 A(1)
              Peter Budaj(0-1): 17 S, 4 GA, 81.0 SV%
