“Hey thanks for inviting me to the game,” Casey’s friend said.
“What she’s trying to say is that she wants to me Eric…Staal!-not Hunter,” Casey said.
“Yea, I’ll see what I can do,” I said. I took Casey’s friend to the locker room and introduced her to Eric.
“Hey…there’s something I want to talk to you about…” Uh-oh…this doesn’t sound good. “I want you to meet my dad and step-mom…”
“Okay.” That doesn’t sound bad at all. Wow…she over reacted.
“But I have to warn you…he’s really, really old fashioned.”
“Okay, that’s cool. Great. When do we meet him?”
“This Thanksgiving.”
“That’s like..Thursday right?”
“Yep.”
“Oooo, I have a game that night. Sorry.”
“It’s okay, we’ll head down there Wednesday, and stay Thursday until whenever you have to leave.”
“…Down there?”
“Yea. They live in L.A.” Oh great, L.A. That’s where I left my life behind. That’s where my family, friends, and most importantly, Anna are. How can I tell my mom that I’ll be all the way in her town, but not see her? I can’t stand to see that look, or hear that voice when and if she’d find out. But what are the chances she’d see me? Yea, I’ll just not tell her. I mean L.A. is a big place. She’ll never know.
“Ummm…Baby?”
“Huh? Oh. Yea. Right. Yea, sure that sounds great.” She looked kind of puzzled, so I let out a faint, fake smile and grabbed her hand.
“Let’s go home.”
