My career started off great, got asked to stay around in Ottawa to get to know people one day, and the next I'm announced as the General Manager. Of course that felt great, but the glory only lasted about thirty minutes, because following the Senators meeting, I learned that Dany Heatley wants out. I will listen to his request and try to find him a new team as soon as I can, and hopefully it can be soon.
I looked around my office that had scattered papers everywhere with notes reminding me of upcoming events, who needs to be re-signed, and who I should take a look at when the Draft Combine eventually rolls around. I had been spending my day looking through team's rosters trying to find a few players that I'd like to see playing with the Sens next season. A few teams came to my attention, but I decided I'd call the GMs after the playoffs, give myself more time to think.
Suddenly as I continued to think of what to do with Heatley, there was a knock on my door. I yelled "Come In" and it wasn't long before the door opened and showed Tim Murray, my assistant GM, standing in the doorway. He walked forward and stopped in front of the desk as he began to introduce himself.
Tim Murray - "Hello Mr.Smyl, congratulations on getting the General Manager job."
Steven Smyl - "Thanks, but please, just call me Steven, Mr.Smyl just sounds to weird."
Tim Murray - "Okay Steven, well anyway I have two reasons to come to your office today. First of all, I wanted to introduce myself..."
Steven Smyl - "Oh, don't worry about that, I already know who you are. I should know who my assistant GM is after all, haha, but anyway, what's the second reason why you're here?"
Tim Murray - "Well, I wanted to discuss what were going to do about Dany."
Steven Smyl - "Well I wanted to wait until after the playoffs to talk to teams about where he could go."
Tim Murray - "Well, you can only trade once the playoffs are over of course, but, I say we go around talking to teams until then, getting them to talk, maybe we can get a good deal if we don't spill that Heatley wants out."
Steven Smyl - "That would be incredibly stupid to go around saying Heatley wants out. No teams would want him after that."
Tim Murray - "Exactly. Now, what teams shall we try to discuss with."
Steven Smyl - "I've come down to five teams I want to try and talk to."
Tim Murray - "Okay, who are they?"
Steven Smyl - "So far on my list I have San Jose, Edmonton, Calgary, Los Angles, and Tampa Bay."
Tim Murray - "Sounds like a few good teams there. But, first, who about we set a meeting with Heatley in a week or so."
Steven Smyl - "Sounds good. Set it up at about three pm in a week."
Tim Murray - "Sounds good. Let's go tell his agent or something."
Steven Smyl - "Okay, after the meeting we will start talking with teams."
Tim Murray - "Sounds good. Now, let's go."
I find my way through the paper maze surronding the desk and get to where Tim is standing and make our way out of the office, and our way to find Heatley's agents number.
