No Hangover For Pens, Who Steamroll Blueshirts In Opener

Bill Guerin puts everything behind a wrister that seals the deal for the Penguins.

New York, NY--Although the Rangers put up two scores in their opener, a late game breakthrough by the Penguins proved they are not a one-hit wonder.

Although no one scored in the first, the Penguins clearly were off to the better start. This proved evident early in the second, as Chris Kunitz provided the first goal of the season forty-five seconds in. Ruslan Fedotenko added to the lead before Vaclav Prospal knocked in a beauty off of Marian Gaborik's first ever Ranger assist. Donald Brashear won his first fight in a Ranger's uniform, beating down Ted Kennedy at the end of hte second.

Gaborik also drew a penalty shot in the middle of the third, but the hot Marc-Andre Fleury stopped him cold on the backhander. Lundqvist's performance was shoddy at best, giving up a garbage goal to Pascal Dupuis to effectively put them out of reach, and letting in a softie shot from the circle by Bill Guerin. Trying to salvage something, Drury scored with about ten seconds left, but the Rangers fell, 4-2.

Word on the street is that Andrew Dellapina has been looking at adding a veteran winger to his staff to add goals, something the team seems to be striving for. We'll see if the defense can tighten up and the offense can open up and utilize their talent to beat some of their easier opponents.

Donald Brashear challenges Ted Kennedy to a battle, and emerges victorious.

Rangers Chalk Up Deal With Ducks; Free Up Space

New York, NY--The Rangers Organization have announced that Wade Redden and his $6M price tag have been shipped to southern California in a deal that brings Ryan Whitney, a 26 year old with a $4M contract, to the Big Apple. In exchange for a Rangers 2nd round pick next year, Ryan Whitney will replace Wade Redden for all intended purposes on the blueline, which means he will be playing in the next game against Ottawa. Many believe that this is an attempt for the Rangers to free up space in order to sign a forward to add to their corps. Whether this move turns out to be successful has yet to be seen.

Rangers Rout Sens In Home Opener

Brandon Dubinsky scores off a juicy rebound set up by Sean Avery.

New York, NY--The Rangers clicked last night in a game that was all about the high energy this team was built to be. Brandon Dubinsky scored 3 points and Marian Gaborik tallied his first score as a Blueshirt as the Rangers defeated the Senators, 5-1.

The game began with Dubinsky scoring and getting a penalty at the same time, poke checking the puck into the net while inadvertently tripping a player. Soon thereafter, Avery scored before setting up Dooby again for his second goal. The Senators responded with one PP goal, and the Rangers had a 3-1 lead after the first.

Although the second period featured no scoring, halfway through the Rangers halted the Senators offense and held them at 8 shots until one minute left in the third period. Chris Higgins and Marian Gaborik scored their first goals as Rangers in the third, and Lundqvist's performance prevailed. The Rangers continue their season when they cross the Hudson to face the New Jersey Devils.

Dubinsky sets Marian Gaborik up for his first goal of the season.

Gaborik Nets Two As Rangers Net Second Win

Ales Kotalik tips in a shot by Michal Rozsival to open the scoring.

Newark, NJ--Thanks to Marian Gaborik's two third period goals, the Rangers defeated the cross-river rivals from New Jersey, 3-0.

The first goal of the game was a Michal Rozsival shot deflected by Ales Kotalik, a beautiful play that caught the Devils off guard. Johnny Oduya also drew a penalty in the first, bu the only power play of the game for either team was uneventful.

Nothing happened in the second period, but Marian Gaborik scored two goals, including an empty netter, in the third to provide the Rangers with insurance.

The Rangers won the shot battle 26-11, and nearly doubled the time on attack. They are now on a two game winning streak and are looking to continue on the success of players like Dubinsky and Gaborik.

Marian Gaborik is unstoppable in the offensive zone.

              Rangers Sign Hudler, Prospect

New York, NY--The Rangers have come to terms with former Wings center Jiri Hudler. The 25 year old was signed to a 4 year, $1.925M deal. His presence will surely shake up the lines, and it seems like there is a wealth of young talent across all lines.

In addition, the Rangers have signed a 17 year old goalie prospect, in hopes of finding a solid backup and eventual successor to Lundqvist.

Rangers Fall Apart As Lundqvist Fails To Stop Beach Ball

Lundqvist gives up the first of many goals.

Washington, D.C.--Alexander Semin made Henrik Lundqvist look like a peewee tonight. Then again, anyone could have made him look like a peewee tonight. Stopping only 14 of 20 shots for a subpar 70% SAV, Lundqvist was half the reason the Rangers lost. The other reason was that Semyon Varlamov only gave up 1 goal on 40 shots.

Alexander Semin scored three times before Jiri Hudler scored his first Ranger goal by powering to the net. The Capitals cushioned the lead with goals by Alexander Ovechkin, Tomas Fleischmann and Brendan Morrison. Clearly the Ranger defense and scoring needs to be looked at. They are 0-2 against quality teams, losing by at least two goals in each affair. Dellapina was not available for comment.

Anyone could score on Lundqvist tonight.

Dubinsky Scores Late In Game As Rangers Drop Ducks

The Rangers pushed hard all night.

New York, NY--Jonas Hiller outplayed the Rangers. Unfortunately, no one else on his team did.

Hiller stopped 40 of 41 shots he faced, but the fact alone that he had to face 41 shots is astounding. The Rangers outplayed the Ducks in every way imaginable tonight. Nothing happened in the first few periods bar some Ducks penalties and an injury to Bobby Ryan.

In the third, the Rangers came out swinging. Brandon Dubinsky scored on a breakaway chance mid 3rd period, and Gaborik closed out the game with an empty netter. Lundqvist played a great game, stopping 12 tough shots in front of his net and denying a breakaway or two.

The Rangers seem to have their form back after losing to the Capitals just a few days ago, and with the schedule coming up they can definitely build a nice record to start the season.

Marc Staal was only one of the many Rangers who bruised it up tonight.

This is pretty good. I like your layout and tables.

Can't believe Lundquist only had to stop 12 shots lol.

Yeah, due to my inability to score and the CPUs inability to refrain from scoring, I'm forced to play on Pro, which means I absolutely dominate every part of the game apart from scoring.

Rangers Blowout Leafs As Gaborik Picks Up Four Points

Chris Higgins begins the Rangers' explosion.

New York, NY--Henrik Lundqvist didn't even need to stand in the net tonight. The Ranger offense could have won the game itself.

Chris Higgins scored a goal along with Sean Avery and Vaclav Prospal in the first. The second featured only one goal by Marian Gaborik, and Alexei Ponikarovsky responded with one of his own, but the Rangers blew the game open in the 3rd, with 4 goals by 4 different players.

It seems that the Rangers have finally started to get things going. They are on the right track and have two more easy games in the Kings and Leafs again before hosting the Sharks in what is sure to be a scoring showdown.

No one could stop Marian Gaborik tonight.
