I presume you typed that in word? Because if you did, it puts smilies in the document when you copy and paste it from word to the forums. I never saw it until someone pointed it out.

First Game Slips Away…
The Washington Capitals started their first game strong against the Boston Bruins. In the first minute of the game Alexander Ovechkin buried the first goal for the Capitals in the back of the net. P.J. Tait recorded an assist on the goal, his first point in his NHL career. After that the Bruins power play took over. “I’m disappointed in our penalty killing tonight,” Coach Bruce Boudreau said, “that’s one of our strengths and we didn’t act like it tonight. Boston was 2 for 7 on the power play on the night.
>>
Michael Ryder scored the game-winning goal on a bad line change by the Capitals with just under two minutes left in the third period. Washington tried to tie it up but Ovechkin hit the post on a beautiful feed by Tait with just ten seconds remaining. “I’m just doing what the coaching staff is asking of me,” Tait admitted, “put guys like Alex in a position to win the game.” He did just that in the first period but the post denied Tait and the Capitals in the third. Washington fell to the Bruins 3 to 2.

Re: Rockin' The Red! - A Washington Capitals Franchise (NHL 10)
Tough first loss of the season. I almost lost to St. Louis cause I was dominated in the first period. After the first I changed the defense game plan and offensive game plan and battled back to win in OT.Comment

The Capitals Defeat The “Monster”…
After losing their first game, the Washington Capitals tightened up defensively and battled the Toronto Maple Leafs for their first win. Both goalies, Semyon Varlamov(Was.) and Jonas “The Monster” Gustavsson(Tor.), were on top of their games saving 24 and 39 shots respectively. In the press conference following the game, Coach Boudreau expressed his happiness with Varlamov’s play, “He really bounced back from the first game. I was really unhappy with his play in the 3rd period against Boston. He looked good in net tonight. Gustavsson looked really good as well. My hats off to him!”
< font>
Gustavsson almost took his team into overtime but with 4.5 seconds left in the third period. Mike Green started the rush up ice to P.J. Tait who took a quick slap shot that looked to have handcuffed Gustavsson. The rebound bounced over his shoulder and fell in into the crease where Nicklas Backstrom pounced on it for the goal. It was his second of the game. “I don’t score many goals but these two were important. The first tied and the second put us out in front,” Backstrom explained. The Washington Capitals defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 2 to 1 in front of a sold out Verizon Center areana.

Late Penalty Equals Late Loss…
In the Hershey Bears first game of the season LW Alexandre Giroux took a costly double minor for high sticking with just seconds remaining in the third period. “I was proud of the guys all night,” head coach Mark French said, “we were disciplined all night, no penalties taken and then Giroux does something like that. I’m really disappointed in him.”
< font>
Besides the bad penalty, the Bears played well all night against the Norfolk Admirals. Wingers Mark Parrish and Oskar Osala sticks finally came to life as both scored, something that hadn’t happened all preseason. Rookie Braden Holtby started in net but didn’t have his best game, “I was pretty nervous but I battled hard. I just didn’t get the job done tonight. I let the guys down.” Geoff Sanderson has this to say about the rookie net minder, “He’ll be fine. We have a ton of confidence in him. He was solid for us all preseason so we know what he’s capable of.” The Hershey Bears lost to the Norfolk Admirals in overtime 3 to 2.

I was actually quite impressed with the Leafs. I thought I would dominate them but it was a defensive struggle all game. I was happy to see Grab and Schenn hook up for a goal. Not gonna lie, I was thinking, "Am I playing against bthomp05's Leafs?" LOL!They deserved a lot better than a last second goal!

Capitals Prevail…In Strange Fashion…
The Washington Capitals won their second straight game of the season over the Philadelphia Flyers by a score of 3 to 1. Semyon Varlamov continued to shine in net for the Capitals. He’s only allowed two goals in the last two games. “After the first game I thought about switching it up between the pipes but I’m glad we’ve stuck with Varly,” Coach Boudreau admitted, “He’s really showing that he should be the No. 1 goalie and we’re going to continue to ride the hot streak that he’s on.
>>
The first period was full of penalties for the Flyers and the Capitals took advantage of it. Defensemen Kyle Quincey ripped a shot from the point while Nicklas Backstrom provided the screen. Goalie Ray Emery never saw the shot. It was the first goal of the season for Quincey on the power play and hopefully not his last. The Capitals traded for him in the preseason to help on the man advantage. Later, Emery made a horrible pass to set up the second goal. “I don’t think he saw me,” Alexander Semin said, “He passed it and I jumped right in front of their defensemen. I didn’t think twice and just put it in the net.” The strange goals continued for Washington when a Flyers pass ricocheted off their own defensemen and into the empty net. “I guess I was the last one to touch it,” Matt Bradley smiled, “Easiest goal I’ve ever scored!”

Game Notes:>>
>>
- Center Dave Steckel will miss 1-2 weeks with a strained hamstring. The injury occurred when he went down to block a shot in the first period. The Capitals haven’t indicated who will replace him. Expect roster changes before the next game.
>>
- The shuffling of the sixth defensemen continued as stated by Coach Boudreau. Pothier started again after sitting out the second game. Erskine got the nod in the second game. Neither has impressed the coaching staff thus far.
>>
- Through three games the majority of the scoring has come from the first line of Ovechkin, Backstrom, Tait, Quincey and Green. The second and third lines have been ineffective and Pavel Bure, in his comeback attempt, is pointless.Comment
