Returning to glory - A NHL 10 BEAGM Maple leafs edition

Hello all, I figured I would take a crack at this. I will be running the Maple leafs, current rosters with salary cap on. I will be watching most of the games, as a Coach/GM would. Making line changes/roster changes etc. Below is a press release to explain the move of me to Co-GM/Coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Hope you all enjoy! updates to come soon

Burke redefines position, Wilson outright fired!
Big news in leaf land today! Brian Burke just recently announced he will be vacating the General manager position, but retaining the title of President.

"I wish to first apologize to leaf fans, that I could not live up to everything I originally agreed to, but after the loss of my son, I can no longer function as President and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs"

Burke has split the GM duties between former Assistant GM Dave Nonis and new comer Steve Pattenden. Only hours after this news was released already there are whispers of unrest and references to "The Furgy days"

It appears that new comer Steve Pattenden will Take over for Coach Ron Wilson, who was fired only moments before this release was made.

"Our duties will be shared, and yet unique" Pattenden announced in his first media appearance. "I will be Coaching the club and dealing with player movement and development, Dave will be handling the day to day operations and financial well being of our great organization"

"I share Brian's vision and give him the credit he deserves for what he has done here in such a short span of time, the trades he has made, the contracts he has given make hockey sense. I intend to continue the tradition he has begun. Let it be known now that the Toronto Maple Leafs will be playoff bound and cup contending by the end of the 11/12 season."

Pattenden went on to outline some of his plans for the young leafs. "Our club has been failing of late, and changes were made to correct this trend, these will continue to happen. I have spent long hours with both Brian Burke and Dave Nonis over-veiwing their long term plan and making changes as needed. As Brian began I shall continue to change the face of our storied franchise, I have reviewed our club roster both major and minor, and have created a list of potential players I would like to see in a blue and white uniform, some names you may find familiar, some you may not. Expect change, and expect it soon!

In closing Pattenden mentioned leaving for a meeting with his lead scouts to discuss the up coming draft and thier possible selections.

Welcome to the 09/10 draft sports fans!

The building is packed with the future of NHL hockey and fans alike. The Scouts are buzzing the GM's are on the phones, the prospects are sweating!!!

There is alot of anticipation in the air today, as the future of a hockey club could be decided by simply picking the right name, or could ever be remembered as the one that got away. Our coverage today will revolve around the Toronto Maple Leafs table and thier actions, It appears everyone is seated and the game faces have come on.
Many phone calls have come through, and it seems that the scouting staff is constantly on the move. Co-GM's Dave Nonis and Steve Pattenden seem to be very busy. Perhaps a trade will happen! will they live up to the hype? will Pattenden come through after only being on the job for a mere two weeks?!

It seems that a first round trade is not going to happen for the Leafs, the clock has all but ran down and the draft is about to begin. Here is our top ten drafting order for this year.
Stay tuned after the break for the top 10 draft selections!

And that wraps it up folks! The first round of the 09/10 draft has been completed!

Here are the picks in order
                1. Selects M. Peterson
                2. selects F. Obsut
                3. selects T. Pollock
                4. selects B. Backer
                5. selects M. Phillips
                6. selects J. Valabik
                7. selects S. Lecaire (C)
                8. selects K. Gardner
                9. selects W. Allen
                10. selects R. Hoffmen
As we continue to follow Toronto through today's drafting it becomes more and more evident that a trade will not transpire. Co-GM Steve Pattenden has promised to speak with us after the draft has been completed about his activities today.

                Second round action!
                selects E. Hannen (G)

We have word on Toronto's third round pick
                selects R. Morozov (G)

After what seemed to be a flurry of phone calls, the clock ran out and Toronto was called to make their fourth round pick
                selects T. Taylor (RW)

In what seems to be the 'eye of the storm' fifth round where all tables and phones have quieted Toronto steps to the podium to make their fifth pick
                selects R. Sumal (G)

After meeting with their draft picks, Co-GM Steve Pattenden sat with us for a brief discussion of this draft day.

"In the end I believe we came out with some exciting talent, that our fans should be anxious to see" Pattenden began. "But both Dave and I agree that our scouting department needs serious work. Not to say our scouts are bad, not in the least. What they need is the proper resources to do their jobs correctly and more importantly thoroughly"

After discussing and highlighting some of his draft picks Pattenden then went to the anticipated (and failed?) topic of trades. "Of course there was talk" he exclaimed. "I had very specific players targeted and we pursued those players until it became an impossibility. I also had picks I tried to trade up, or down. In fact we were down to the wire on a deal with the L.A Kings that would have seen the likes of Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty join our ranks, which the cost was high but the trade broke apart due to time restraints, pick order and a minor league prospect"

"Fear not loyal fans, we are moving ahead with the same plans I have previously detailed, our club is growing and there is an oportunity for aggressive expansion for those players who show us what they can do. Though the draft day is over, and we made no moves expect some to come. I hold to my word, we will not enter this upcoming season with the same roster we ended with last year"

Well fans our coverage time is up, and I am afraid we must take our leave. Fear not as our coverage of the Leafs will continue with in-depth analysis and breaking news as it happens! Thanks for reading

Re: Returning to glory - A NHL 10 BEAGM Maple leafs edition

Welcome everyone to our Post draft press conference

A week has past and we have decided to release information regarding our draft selections and signings, Co-GM Steven Pattenden will also be fielding questions for today's event.

"Thank you all for gathering on short notice, things have been a bit back logged here, I was hoping to do this days ago but in the end this is more exciting"

"First I would like to begin by saying thank you to the host city of Montreal, the event flowed very well, and the city was beautiful. Secondly I would like to recap our draft selections"

"In order we picked C S. Leclaire G E Hannen G R. Morozov RW T. Taylor G R. Sumal. Of these five young men we have signed three, I would like to officially welcome S. Leclaire T. Taylor and R. Sumal onto the team"

"A bit of info on our newest members. We had players we were shooting for specifically in the draft, at the top of our list was T. Ahonen and S. Leclaire, it was a very tough decision since both of these up coming stars were still available to us. in the end we chose S. Leclaire being 19 years old having a rating of 78 and an A- rated potential, combined with a 6 foot frame and packing 183 pounds we thought he would immediately impact our power play efforts, which as you all know were lacklustre this past season"

"We came to terms on a 3 year entry level contract with this sniper worth .900M per year. We also believe that T. Taylor will develop into a top 6 winger also being 19 years of age standing at 5'10" and weighing 170 pounds. This young playmaker will spend time with the marlies until he is ready to join the big club, being rated with a B potential and averaging a 67 overall we came to terms on a 3 year entry level contract worth .675M per season"

"Our last signing is R. Sumal being 18 years old with an A- potential. He stands at 6 feet even weighing 183 pounds with a 71 overall, we agreed to a 3 year entry level contract worth .775M per year. Sumal will backstop the marlies until he progresses into what we hope will be a number one tender"

After answering various questions from the press about not being able to make a deal during the draft and various other topics of concern Pattenden interrupted with an update.

"I would like to take a moment to announce two trades we have made, on this the opening day of free agency. As I have said before we have aggressively sought after key players we believe will improve our club"

I would like to announce our first trade!
                    Aquire C J. Tavares From
                    Aquire D T. Kaberle From

Well readers, there you have it. I swear for the first time in a while the press room at MLSE went dead quiet as everyone soaked in, after years of constant speculation, Thomas Kaberle was traded.

"I would like to say" Pattenden began "Thank you to Thomas, he has been a valued and stalwart piece of this puzzle here in Toronto for many years, his constant offensive production has been impressive and his leadership over the past year immensely helpful. I wish him luck in his new endeavours"

"Secondly I would like to welcome John into our organization, we activley pursued him during the draft, but were unable to come to terms, and we believe his playmaking abilities and offensive skills will compliment our recent additions. John will move directly into our line up for this season and hopefully have the impact we know he is capable of delivering"

I would also like to announce our second trade!
Aquire RW T. Selanne and D T. Ahonen from
Aquire D F. Beauchemin and LW V. Stralberg and TOR 2010 2nd round pick from

"Once again I would like to begin by saying thank you to both Francois and Viktor for their contributions to our team, this was a difficult trade to make. I wish you luck in your stint with the Ducks"

"I would also like to welcome "The Finnish Flash" Teemu Selanne and Teemu Ahonen to the Maple Leafs, Selanne will go immediately onto our top lines, his offensive contributions will be counted upon, and his leadership needed during this season. I am sure you all remember the name T. Ahonen, he was on our top draftees list, which is the reason for this deal, I believe his offensive upside, and good size as a player will fill in for the loss of Beauchemin and Kaberle, Though young Ahonen will get an immediate shot at the big leagues, how he in turn plays will determine if he remains"

"To end this conference I first would like to say thank you all for your time, we are currently 10.215 Million under the league cap and are actively looking to fill that space. I will leave you by officially announcing our starting line up"

Just wanted to say great write ups and wow! First time I've ever seen Obsut get passed over for someone else, he's usually the number pick in any draft with unedited rosters.
