I was thinking about a package that could include either Fisher, Cullen, Kovalev or Foligno.

Trade Deadline Preview

With the trade deadline right around the corner there's been plenty of speculation around Ottawa about who might be going out and who the Senators might be trying to bring into the organization. Thus far there hasn't been any official word of who is up for grabs, but sources close to the organization say that there are some players who could find their way out of Ottawa come March 4.


A few names being tossed around could be Matt Cullen, who after having a great start to the season putting up 16 points in the clubs first 15 games, seems to have hit a wall, only recording 5 points in the last 50 games. Alexei Kovalev, who was just signed this past off-season. Anton Volchenkov, who will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1st, could get some attention from someone looking for a shutdown defence man for the playoff push. Or Filip Kuba, who after being aquired from the Tampa Bay Lightning could never really earn a spot past the 3rd defensive pairing.


A less likely scenario could see Mike Fisher on his way out of town, after the 2-way centers numerous seasons with the Senators in which he could never really find that breakout season success, the team is looking for.

Some of the players who may be coming into Ottawa are Simon Gange of the Philadelphia Flyers, Mike Knuble of the Washington Capitals, Jason Pomnville of the Buffalo Sabres or Niklas Kronwall from the Detroit Red Wings.

Well, the second trade is pretty realistic and the 1st trade I wouldn't do at all, your trading three quality players for 1 and a half. Bad move dude.

  Heading into the trade deadline many names had been circling around the Ottawa Senators, and a few of those players did get traded.
  
  The Senators made two trades at the deadline this year, that they feel will help their club down the stretch. The first trade was made an hour into the day, the deal saw Alexei Kovalev, Matt Cullen and Nick Foligno go to Philadelphia in return for Simon Gange, Scott Hartnell and Joey Mormina.
  
  Deal number 2 happened after several hours of negotiations between the Senators and the Detroit Red Wings. Another six person deal that had soon to be unrestricted free agent Anton Volchenkov, Brian Lee and Cody Bass.
  
  Despite giving up three young prospects on the day the Senators organization felt optimistic about the deals that went down.
  
  "I know people will say that we gave three of our top prospects and all, but the players we got back in return have a lot of experience and they'll be valuable come playoff time."
