Off Season Game Plan

With the NHL entry draft just around the corner, it's time to start speculation about what Ottawa might be planning to do this off-season.

Lets start with the draft, the Ottawa Senators hold the 30th pick in this years draft. A few of the prospects who might still be available to Ottawa are Shawn Mason (CND, RW), Brandon Nycholat (FRA, C), Blake Philox (CND, D) and Rudy Penner (CND, G). But don't be surprised if the Senators make a deal and move up in the draft.


The team doesn't have many free agents, notables on that list are Chris Campoli, Andy Sutton, Pascale Leclaire, Drew Bannister and Rob Neidermayer. It's been reported that the organization may only be extending contract offers to one or two of them.


As for the roster there doesn't appear to be many holes, they have three solid lines, blue line depth and Brian Elliott proved he was the unquestioned number one goalie last season. Although if they do let some defence men leave to free agency they may need to bring in someone to replace them. Some names that come to mind are Pavel Kubina, Paul Ranger and Ian White, all have good offensive upsides without being too expensive.

Unhappy In The Capital

It seems not all is well in Ottawa, just after winning the Stanley Cup, some players are expressing unhappiness towards the organization.

On Monday, Mike Fisher along with Filip Kuba both told GM Burns that they felt a "change of scenery" was needed. Mike Fisher was reportedly unhappy with his teammates after several locker-room disputes went unreported during the playoff run last season.

" I just don't think it would be healthy for the organization or my career if I were to remain in Ottawa" Mike Fisher told reporters outside of Scotiabank Place.

Filip Kuba on the other hand wants out for a different reason. He feels he should have recieved more ice time in last years playoffs, especially after so many injuries occuered. Kuba was upset that the team would turn to the AHL players before promoting him.

" I feel like I'm being neglected here and I would just prefer to leave"

Filip Kuba has not specified a prefered location, while Mike Fisher submitted a list of teams to Logan Burns. The list includes the Nashville Predators, Washington Capitals, New Jersey Devils and St. Louis Blues.
