Picks are most likely. Would love a few then package them and move up the draft.

        More Great News

        Washington Post:

Other then Ovi’s huge 18 goal performance so far, these three players fill out the next 3 spots with 6 goals each; Fleischman - Semin - Knuble. Its no surprise these three fill the score sheet as all of them either log time on the 1st or 2nd lines and also man the PP units.

Fleischman, who has been centering the second line this year between Laich and Semin, has brought up his game significantly. Chipping in 6 goals and 4 assists in 14 games, he has definitely filled the role of secondary scorer. “I go out there every night at 110%. I’m just glad its paying off,”

“I’m hoping this year I break the 100 point barrier, its my year.” Taking 3rd spot on the score sheet Semin has been phenomenal, showing excelled matured and a better grasp of the game. Taking less penalties has meant more ice time and therefore better production, team brass hopes he can continue.

Filling out the wing on a line with Ovechkin and Backstrom most definitely means great point totals. Knuble, who is on pace for 76 points this year, has been the perfect partner for his two line mates. His ability to win battles in the corners and be a nasty presence in front of the net has worked out beautifully. He has been a great asset so far. “Its incredible watching those two play, I’m just glad I can keep up with them.”

        -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Its no surprise to see Ovechkin, Crosby, or even Malkin’s name on top of the score sheet but Steckel? Well if you were looking at the short handed goal list then you would.

Steckel, who mans the 1st PK unit with Chimera, has managed to not only kill penalties effectively but also put on a huge offensive front securing him 3 short handed goals, most in the league.

“Sometimes you catch the PP unit snoozing, not expecting a move. That’s when I bring it. I’m happy I can contribute.”

        ----------------------------------------------------------------------

When asked who polices the blue line for the Caps, anyone will tell you Schultz is that man.

“He’s huge out there. I feel sorry for anyone who keeps his head down in our zone, cause they will pay dearly.” Quoted Alzner.

Standing at 6’6” weighing 230 lbs, Schultz has put on big effort so far. A plus 10, he is in the top 20 defensemen with 40 hits and has logged an average of 25.43 minutes per game. Expect him to be a big part of the Caps quest for the cup.

Another nice start, and moving Mike Green for 2 1st round picks could pan out well, (How's Edmonton doing this year?)

The Oliers are currently 24th and are having problems all over the place - Hall has been a bomb with only 11 points in 30 games - so this is boding well for me. (Green only had 10pts in 18 games, while both Alzner and Carlson are hovering around 20pts so far)

The Caps are missing a 2nd round pick so having two 1sts and two 3rds in 2011, 4 picks in the 1st 3 rounds, will help out big time.

Signing Bill and Chris has already paid dividends for the Bears, they went on a 3 gaming winning streak at the end of November. Plus it only costed me 1.1 million all in for a wealth of experience, a few stanely cups, and great leadership.

                    Re: Washington Capitals

                    Thompson Makes His Mark

                    Washington Post:

The month of November witnessed the guys in red move up the ladder to number one spot in the NHL caring a record of 18-7-0, but that was not the big news.

The big news story here in Washington were the transactional opportunities of GM Brad Thompson over the month of November. After the dust finally settled two players now call other teams home and two veteran names jump off the FA list and join the Hershey Bears, the Caps farm team.

“I had a few opportunities swing my way and they looked very good; now and for the future. I had to jump on them.” Thompson was quoted. “These trades move what I call 'underachieving assets' off the team and set us up to obtain some great talent for the future.” Talking about the trades of Poti and Green.

Of all the deals that manifested the biggest one was the trade of scoring defence Mike Green and prospect Chris Bourque to the Edmonton Oilers for two 1st round picks in the coming years.

Green, who has been a big disappointment so far this year with only 10 pts, has looked lost and tired on the blue line. His value has decreased significantly with 22 year old Alzner and 20 year old Carlson stepping up their offensive game, combining for 10 goals and 26 assists from the blue line. It was only a matter of time before the 6’2” d-man was traded. On the flip side, the Oilers are 26th in the NHL and if they keep that statues until year end the Caps would have the 4th pick in the upcoming draft - not to shabby for a team headed for its 2nd Presidents Trophy in 2 years.

“When I heard the deal go through with Mike I was astonished, I only hope Brad knows what he’s doing.” Team Captain Ovechkin was quoted about the trade of Green.

The other trade was with the Hawks and was exactly like the Oilers trade, strictly for the future. OFD Tom Poti, who only has 2 points in 7 games, found himself going to the Hawks for a 3rd round pick in 2011 and a 4th round pick in 2012. Like Green, he also fell victim to the over production of Alzner and Carlson and was a healthy scratch for many games (He won’t have that problem now mixing it up with Keith on the 1st pairing in Chicago). On the other side of the coin the Caps secure another pick in the 1st 90 this year and top 120 next year.

Schultz, who leads the defensive charge for the Caps who also has managed to collect 16 points in 26 games, had this to say. “There go two of my line mates, ow well Alzner and Carlson play better.”

In response to the recent signings Thompson had this to say. “Signing Bill and Chris exemplifies how important it is to us that the Bears remain competitive and have the assets to properly defend their Championship status.”

Only spending $1.1 million in cap space, the Capitals secure 2,914 NHL games and 1,802 points of experience with veterans Bill Guerin and Chris Chelios, even though both have been assigned to the Hershey Bears.

“I’m just happy to play, sitting around doing nothing is no fun.” Bill told reports at his home. “This will probably be my last year, I’m glad its for such a great organization.” Quoted Chelios.

Bill, who played for the Pens last year, is coming off a 78 game year recording 21 goals and 24 assists for his 3rd 40 point season in a row. He brings a great power forward style to the game and will heavily be needed to supplement a quick puck moving - goal scoring Bears team. Chris is coming off a 46 AHL game tour last year where he garnered 22 points and a huge +34 rating. The Bears will be looking for him to bring a much need veteran presence to a young d corps, average age of 25.

Kyle Greentree who leads the offensive charge for the Bears with 28 points had this to say about the signings. "I can't believe I get a chance to play with those guys, there legends."

                      Re: Washington Capitals

                      Any Others?

                      Washington Post:

With the recent flurry of movement from the Caps, one asks who else is destined to new waters? Well that exact question was asked of GM Thompson during a recent TSN interview.

"I give every player on this team a chance to prove themselves and if they don`t take that chance I guess they don`t want to be here." Thompson openned up with. "Green and Poti didn`t fit here, so I pulled the trigger." He continued. "Are there other names on my list? Of course there are, I would be lieing if I said no. Will I give you names, well I will give you a discription instead." Holding for Effect. "A certain 3rd line winger who fills the power forward role and had a 33 points last season has been almost completely scarce this year. He hasn`t hit the net and only has 2 assists, not exactly filling his end of the $2.2 million we gave him. I will also say I`ve had a few teams from the West contact me about him, but that is all I`m going to say."

With that little cloak and dagger of an interview any Caps fan can quickly denouce that the player in question is Eric Fehr. And Thompson isn`t the only one who is down on this guy. Team CaptianOvechkin, who by the way could break the 70 goal mark this year, had this to say.

"Every night we go out there hard, if a player isn`t pulling his weight then he`s hurting the team. Time to go."

Other players on the team shared similair concerns and its only a matter of time before the struggling winger finds new digs.

Thanks Jonesey. Not worth the paper his contract was signed on.

                            Man Back, Man Down,
                            Alex The Great

                            Washington Post:

6/12/2010: After missing 6 games with a strained hamstring, out since Nov 24, blue liner Karl Alzner is finally back in the fold.

"Its great to see him back." Quoted fellow reargaurd John Carlson.

Alzner`s recovery has progressed well enough that team doctors allowed him to participate in this mornings skate and have cleared him for tonights game against the Leafs.

"When I heard I could play I was astatic. Watching games from the press box is definately not fun." Quoted Alzner.

GM Thompson, who as of late seems to be taking the spot light off his team, had this to say. "When Alzner went down I knew it was bad, bad for him and bad for us. Any time you lose a player chipping in .69 pts a game you get worried. I`m very glad that he is back, our d-corps just got better."

Alzner will resume his responisbilities on the 2nd pairing as well on the 2nd PP unit. Patrick McNeill, who was called up to take Alzner`s spot, has been recalled back to Hershey.

11/12/2010: With one player coming back from injury another is sent to the press box, as winger Eric Fehr is the most recent victem of the injury bug. Taking a bad fall during the Avs game he injured his wrist and will miss atleast 3 games.

"I tried to break my fall but it didn`t exactly work out the way I wanted it to, man did it hurt." Fehr was quoted from his facebook page.

Boyd Gordon, who has 5 pts and is a +1 in 18 games this year with the Caps, will suit up and take his place on the 3rd line.

"I know some players complain about ice time, I`m just glad I can fill in where I can." Commented Gordon.

Eric Fehr has been the main character of alot of trade rumors circulating around the web especially after Thompson tipped off that a certain winger has fallen out a favour. It has been said that the Sharks and Ducks are interested but no hard offers have materialized. Stay tuned.

12/12/2010: Ovi has been impressing the masses since he was drafted first by the Caps back in 04 and now he has done it again.

Only 32 games into the 10/11 season and the left winger has already amassed 53 points, 36 goals and 23 assists, for an astonishing 1.65 points per game.

"Ovechkin is an exemplier of a player. His skill, tenacity, and hunger for the back of the net is unmatched by anyone in the league. I`m glad he is part of our organization." Quoted Thompson.

"To be honest and frank, I just go out there and play my best. If my best means scoring goals and setting up my linemates, then I`m okay with that." Commented Ovechkin after scoring his 30th goal and talling 3 assists to hit the 53 point mark during the Avs game.

If Ovi keeps up this pace he could finish the year with 76 goals and 135 points, breaking his record of the most goals by a left winger (65) and the most points by a left winger (125, Luc Robitaille) in a season.
