      It Begins

      Washington Post:

12/4/2011: The season has ended, the playoff berths have been finalized, and day One of the 2010/2011 Stanley Cup Finals has come. 16 teams will become 8, then 4, then 2 as they all seek the holy grail at the end of the tunnel.

For the Caps, the journey begins with a team that sports orange and blue and is captained by veteran centerman Doug Weight, the New York Islanders (44-33-9).

During the season the Caps dominated the season series 4 games to none, out scoring the Islanders 20 to 10 (8-3, 3-2, 4-1, 5-4). And will definately be looking to repeat that success over the next week. The series begins tonight in Washington, Varlamov (The clear winner of the 6 game tryout) will man the pipes agianst Rick Dipietro (32-32, 2.69). Should be a lopsided afair, Caps in 4.

      Top D-man: Mark Streit; 11g-42a-52pts
Top Goalie: Rick Dipietro; 32-32, 2.69

      Burish - Bailey - Hunter
      Nielsen - Konopka - Parenteau

      Wisniewski - Streit

Thanks GJ. Absolutely, I want this to be fun and challenging. Least I don`t have to worry about those pesty Habs - they didn`t make it.

                No Looking Back

Capitals Sweep Series on Outstanding Goaltending:

Game 1: Caps beat Thrashers 2 nothing; Varlamov pushes flawless hockey to 177 mins and records 3rd SO - hardest game I have ever played
Game 2: Caps beat Thrashers 2 to 1; Varlamov`s streak ends at 197.10 mins, Alzner suffers an injured elbow and will miss one game - Godfrey will dress
Game 3: Caps beat Thrashers 5 nothing; Varlamov records 4th SO, Thrashers are no contest - look beaten and intimidated
Game 4: Caps beat Thrashers 5 to 2; Varlamov streak ends at 84.86 mins, Ovi records 3rd Hat Trick

                Conference Finals:

Capitals now face Jersey (beat Leafs 4 to 2) in the Conference Finals, starting with game one in Washington. Varlamov will get the nod.

Caps lead scorer: A. Ovechkin, 18 pts
Caps lead goalie: S. Varlamov, 8-0 1.19 GAA 4 SO

Devils lead scorer: J. Arnott, 14 pts
Devils lead goalie: M. Brodeur, 8-3 2.14 GAA

                    Re: Washington Capitals

I thought so too but I pulled him at the beginning of the 2nd and I guess Neuvirth tallied the loss. O well..

I don't know what it is but its like Varlamov is playing 200% better then his rating, weird. He keeps this up there will be a war for the Smyth between him and Ovi.

                      Conference Finalists

Tough Series Ends in Caps Favour, 4 to 2

Game 1: Caps beat Devils 6 to 2; Brodeur was a sive
Game 2: Caps beat Devils 2 to 1; Great Offensive push by Devils but not enough
Game 3: Devils beat Caps 6 to 3; Caps defence broke down early, Varlamov pulled
Game 4: Devils beat Caps 4 to 1; Early goals by Devils kill, Neuvirth's inexperience shows with 3rd playoff loss
Game 5: Caps beat Devils 5 to 3; getting on the board early helps, Ovi and Perreault score 2 goals a piece
Game 6: Caps beat Devils 3 nothing; Varlamov was phenomenal recording his 5th SO, Artyukhin gets into 3 tussels

                      Stanley Cup Finals:

Capitals now face the Flames (beat Wild 4 to 1) in the Stanley Cup Finals (in the only meeting of the season the Flames had a field day with the Caps), starting with game one in Washington. Varlamov will get the nod.

Caps lead scorer: A. Ovechkin, 23 pts
Caps lead goalie: S. Varlamov, 12-1 1.56 GAA 5 SO

Devils lead scorer: J. Iginla, 21 pts
Devils lead goalie: M. Kiprusoff, 11-4 2.34 GAA

Good Luck in the finals!!! I remember at the end of the season that both your goalies were playing well and you thought it would be a tough pick between the two, well at least up until this point the right guy is in net - !!!WOW!!! Varlamov 12-1, 1.56 gga, 5 shutouts...freaking awesome.

Time to put out the Flames. Get read.

Thanks Hoxltc, so true. They are both in contract years and I was thinking of keeping both, now I don't know. Like I said he has been playing at 200% better then his rating, had a little trouble in Jersey town, but came out on top.

Haven't commented in a while, just figured I'd drop by and say what a monster season you've had so far.

I'm sad my Wild lost to the Flames in the WCF, but it was a good run for them.

It should be a fun cup, and I have a good feeling about you will be able to take it home.
