    Quick Update

    Mar. 3, 2011 - Columbus 2, Edmonton 1 (Shootout)

Jan Hejda's shootout tally in the seventh round of the shootout gave Columbus the win at Rexall Place. Steve Mason made three consecutive saves in the shootout, including the final one on Tom Gilbert.

The Oilers took a 1-0 lead late in the first when Jean-Francois Jacques beat Mason over the glove from the slot. The score remained that way until midway through the third when Rick Nash converted on the power play to tie the game at 1-1, it was his 16th goal of the year, and also started the shootout scoring against Olier goalie Martin Gerber.

Ales Hemsky followed with a score, but the next four shooters all failed to send it to sudden death. Antoine Vermette and Shawn Horcoff traded goals in round four, the next four shooters came up empty before Hejda beat Gerber with a backhander.

    Mar. 4, 2011 - Calgary 3, Columbus 2

The Blue Jackets trailed the host Flames 3-0 midway through the second period at the Saddledome. Nikita Filatov made it 3-1 with his 11th of the season at the 12:48 mark of the second, then RJ Umberger scored on the power play three minutes into the third. Flames' goalie Mikka Kiprusoff stopped the final 17 Columbus shots and saw Umberger's shot ring off the post with four minutes remaining to preserve the win. The Blue Jackets, who out-shot Calgary 28-23, 19-3 in the third period, fell to 22-36-6 on the season.

    Mar. 7, 2011 - Columbus 2, St. Louis 1

Anton Stralman's power play goal with six minutes remaining gave Columbus the road win in the first of a home-and-home with the Blues.

RJ Umberger started the game-winning play with a big hit in the corner to free the puck to Fedor Tyutin, who then found Stralman alone at the top of the left circle and his shot beat Jaroslav Halak on the blocker side.

Kristian Huselius gave the Blue Jackets a first period 1-0 lead with an unassisted tally at the 12:12 mark. The Blues tie the game on the power play in the second when Patrik Berglund scored off a 2-on-1 with David Perron.

Columbus led in shots 32-27 and are now 3-1 verses St. Louis this season.

    MY GAMES:
vs. Oliers: Was a -1, had 5 shots and 1 hit in 32:52
vs. Flames: Was a -2, had 7 shots and 2 hits in 36:02
vs. Blues: Took 5 shots and had 1 hit in 36:52

We just have never been able to put together more than a couple good games in a row. Scoring has been the number one problem, we are second to last in the league in that category.

My BAP has had a really soild rookie season despite the team results. I lead all rookies in scoring and am in the Top 10 in the NHL in points by defensemen and second in goals scored.

Just hoping we can play .500 here on out and have a good draft.

        Thanks for following GoldenJet.

Just caught up with most of this. Like GJ said, tough to see your team struggling, and the last three games, you had 17 shots and not a goal...very frustrating.

Blue Jackets Chalk Up Second Straight Win

COLUMBUS (AP) – RJ Umberger scored a pair of goals, while Derick Brassard and Jan Hejda added a goal and assist each as Columbus won for the second time in as many nights against the Blues with a 6-3 victory.

The Blue Jackets, who hadn't won back-to-back games since mid-December, dominated play as they out-shot the Blues 44-28 and converted on three of their six power play oppurtunities.

“Sometimes you just have a team's number and I guess we have that with them,” said Umberger on the fact that Columbus is now 4-1-0 verses the Blues this season. “We really had our power play woring tonight. We were winning almost all the battles against the boards and our defensemen did a fantastic job of keeping the puck in their zone.

Umberger and Kristian Huselius scored first period goals for the Blue jackets around one from Blues Carlo Colaiacovo to lead 2-1 after one period. A power play tally from Umberger at the 7:15 mark of the second period was followed minutes later by a rebound goal by Sammy Pahlsson to make it 4-1. St. Louis' David Perron scored his 29th of the season late, but Brassard and Hejda tallied in the third to give Columbus a 6-2 advantage. Cam Janssen scored late in the third, but it was too little, too late.

“The guys really stepped up their play tonight,” said Columbus head coach Scott Arniel. “The other night at their place was a nice win and to not have a let down tonight was our biggest focus. Now the question is can we make it three-in-a-row.”

MY GAME: Had an assist, but was a -1. Took six shots in 30:36. Dropped the gloves and won a fight with Andy McDonald midway through the third period.

I'm not much of a fighter, but he had taken a run at Vermette (our leading scorer). I was the closest one to him after the hit, so I decked him. But you right, I won't win many if the big boys are in it.

Blue Jackets Make It Three Straight Wins

COLUMBUS – After a slow start the Blue Jackets stormed back to run their winning streak to three games with a 4-3 win over visiting Los Angeles at Nationwide Arena.

RJ Umberger continued his strong play with a goal and two assists, while Chris Clark added a goal and assist for Columbus who fell behind 1-0 four minutes into the game after the Kings Justin Williams scored his 16th of the year on a 2-on-1.

It wasn't the start we wanted to get off to, but we were able to regroup and get things going,” said rookie defensemen Bryan Hoxsey, who got Columbus on the board with a power play tally at the 11:46 mark of the first to tie the game. “We did what we had to do tonight to get a win.”

Hoxsey's 14 goal of the season was followed by Clark's score with just 6.8 seconds left in the opening period to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.

Umberger and Sammy Pahlsson each scored in the first twelve minutes of the second to make it 4-1. Los Angeles' Dustin Brown cut it back to a two-goal contest with a power play goal with three minutes to go in the second. LA's Michal Hanzus scored the final goal of the game by netting a shot with 21 seconds left in the game with the Blue Jackets a man down and goalie Jonathan Quick on the bench for the extra attacker.

We are playing for pride the rest of the season,” said Columbus head coach Scott Arniel, whose club held a 29-25 advantage in shots on goal. “It's no secret that we haven't played well this season and it's been a rough ride. So now all we can do is try and finish this season on a strong note. The last three games have shown us what can happen when we play hard and play smart.”

Columbus is now 25-36-6, while Los Angeles fell to 32-30 6.

MY GAME: Had a power play goal on eight shots. Was a 0 +/- , with one hit in 35:55 of ice time.

                            Quick Update

                            March 12, 2011 - Carolina 4, Columbus 2

Hurricane Erik Cole scored a hat trick in front of the home crowd, including the go-ahead tally late in the second period, to snap the Blue jackets three-game winning streak.

Carolina led 1-0 after one period on Joni Pitkanen's goal, but Columbus tied things with Ethan Moreau score early in the second frame. Cole gave his team the lead for good with a short-handed at 17:54, then netted a pair of third period goals sandwiched around Rick Nash's 19th of the season.

                            March 15, 2011 - Boston 3, Columbus 1

The Bruins scored a goal in each period at Nationwide Arena as they sent Columbus to their second straight defeat.

Dennis Seidenberg, Nathan Horton, and Daniel Paille netted goals for Boston, while goalie Tim Thomas stopped 32 of 33 shots as the Bruins won their 40th game of the season (40-24-5).

Blue Jacket rookie Bryan Hoxsey broke Thomas' shutout bid by scoring his 15th of the season with just six seconds remaining in the contest. Columbus held a 33-25 advantage in shots on goal.

                            March 17, 2011 - Detroit 4, Columbus 1

The Red Wings jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one period and never looked back as they picked up a road win at Nationwide Arena.

Mike Modano opened the scoring for Detroit at the 7:51, Nicklas Lidstrom and Justin Abdelkader added first period scores as the visitors held a 12-5 shot advanatge.

Chris Clark scored on the power play for Columbus midway in the second, but Red Wing Drew Miller made it 4-1 early in the third, before Ethan Moreau closed out the scoring five minutes later. Detroit led in shots for the game, 31-20.

                                Tough Times

                                Update

                                March, 19, 2011 - Columbus 3, Minnesota 1

Jakub Voracek, Rick Nash and Nikita Filatov each scored as the Blue Jackets picked up the road win.

Voracek's first period goal, his 17th of the year with just under six minutes to go, came off a steal in the Wild zone. Nash tallied his 20th of the season on a second period power play chance, with assists going to Anton Stralman and Antoine Vermette. Filatov made it 3-0 with a score early in the third from Nash and Sammy Pahlsson. Minnesota's John Madden broke up Blue Jacket goalie Mathieu Garon's shutout bid with under seven minutes to go.

Columbus held a 30-28 advantage in shots and converted on 1-of-4 chances a man up, while the Wild were 0-for-2.

                                March 20, 2011 - New Jersey 3, Columbus 2 (OT)

New Jersey's Zach Parise picked off a clearing attempt and scored the game-winner 1:42 into overtime to pick up the win at Nationwide Arena.

The Blue Jackets led 2-1 after the opening period as Kristian Huselius and Rick Nash scored goals sandwiched around a power play tally by the Devils Bryce Salvador. Both Columbus scores came on deflections in front.

With a guy like (Martin) Brodeur you have to get traffic in front and we did that the first 20 minutes,” said Columbus head coach Scott Arniel of the Devils veteran goalie. “We didn't do much of that in the second or third and he was able to keep them in the game. We didn't have a lot of chances tonight, they locked down on us pretty good.”

The Devils tied the game just 56 seconds in the second period on Jamie Langenbrunner's 25th of the year during a 4-on-4 situation.

New Jersey (36-31-5) dominated the shots on goal as they had 38 to just 19 for Columbus.

                                March 22, 2011 - Colorado 5, Columbus 0

Avalanche goalie Craig Anderson stopped all 22 shots he faced and David Jones scored a pair first period goals as Colorado posted the shutout at home. Columbus has now lost four of their last five games.

David Koci, Peter Mueller and Brandon Yip each added tallies over the final two periods. Colorado held a 34-22 advantage in shots on goal and were 1-of-7 on the power play, while Columbus was without a chance with the man advantage.

                                March 24, 2011 - Phoenix 4, Columbus 1

The Coyotes out-shot the visiting Blue Jackets 36-27, 15-4 in the opening period, and cruised to the win.

Lee Stempniak opened the scoring nine minutes into the first period, then Ed Jovanovski made it 2-0 under a minute into the second frame. Blue Jacket rookie defensemen Bryan Hoxsey got his team to within one goal three minutes into the third, but Taylor Pyatt and Shane Doan each tallied late to put the game out of reach.

                                MY GAMES:

                                vs. Wild – Was a +1 with 6 shots and 3 hits in 39:06
                                vs. Devils – Was a -1 with 2 shots in 28:49
                                vs. Avalanche – Was a -2 with 7 shots and 1 hit in 37:18
vs. Coyotes – Scored my 16th goal of the season, but was a -2, had 1 hit in 33:15
