    Game 01. Flames @ Bruins, 9-5

The Flames and Bruins opened their seasons with a goal-scoring frenzy. Calgary sealed the win in the second period when shorthanded goals from Tom Kostopoulos and Curtis Glencross gave the visitors a 5-3 lead. The Flames never looked back and cruised to an easy win despite poor defense. However, Calgary lost center Mikael Backlund to an elbow injury.

    Game 02. Flames @ Rangers, 6-1
Calgary continued with another high-scoring effort, beating the Rangers at MSG. Former Ranger Ales Kotalik had two goals and goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 27 shots. Tim Jackman and Rene Bourque both went down injured. Jackman suffered a broken nose while Bourque suffered a concussion after being hit by a slapshot from teammate Anton Babchuk.

    Game 03. Flames @ Devils, 4-5 OT
With just 3.9 seconds left in overtime, Devils forward Zach Parise ended what had been an entertaining game that went back and forth. Jarome Iginla led Calgary with two goals while Parise had a hat-trick for New Jersey. Flames forwards Ryan Howse and Greg Nemisz both scored their first NHL goals.

    Game 04. Flames @ Blackhawks, 6-2
Miikka Kiprusoff stonewalled the Blackhawks with 51 saves, while the Flames had six goals on just 26 shots. The already injury-plagued Flames lost another forward when rookie Greg Nemisz went down in the third period with an apparent hamstring problem. Olli Jokinen scored twice for Calgary.

    Game 05. Flames @ Red Wings, 3-1
Despite having four call-ups in the lineup, the Flames ended their five-game road trip with a solid effort in Detroit. Olli Jokinen, Anton Babchuk and Curtis Glencross gave Calgary a 3-0 lead in the first period, and Miikka Kiprusoff had 28 saves after being beaten only once by Niklas Kronwall in the second period.

    INJURY REPORT:

*** Mikael Backlund suffered an elbow injury in the Flames' first game. He has been out of the lineup since then and is expected to miss at least another week.

*** Tim Jackman suffered a broken nose in the second game of the season when he crashed awkwardly into the boards after being hit by Ryan Callahan. He has been out of the lineup since then and is expected two miss two more weeks.

*** Rene Bourque suffered a severe concussion in the second game of the season when he was hit by a hard shot from teammate Anton Babchuk. It is a scary injury and doctors expect him to be out for five to six weeks.

*** Greg Nemisz suffered a hamstring injury in the fourth game of the season. He did not play against the Red Wings and he could easily be out for one or two weeks.

    CALL-UPS:

Due to recent injuries, the Flames have already used 26 players this season. Calgary decided to give various farm players a chance to prove themselves, and therefore, five different forwards have been called up to play: David Desharnais, Ben Walter, Greg Mauldin, David Van der Gulik and Luca Caputi.

    THE ROAD AHEAD:

    game 06: vs MTL, 10/17
    game 07: vs OTT, 10/19
    game 08: vs WSH, 10/21
    game 09: @ CBJ, 10/23
    game 10: @ STL, 10/25

No back-to-back games and no divisional rivals next week. The Flames will play their first three home games of the season before going on the road again.

Re: The C of Red - Calgary Flames (NHL11 BAGM)

yeah it's been a strange dynasty so far. I never had so many injuries so early in the season, and I have scored A LOT so far. Didn't do anything special, didn't even shoot that much. However, I was limited in to one goal each in game 6 and 7.

          Game 06. Canadiens @ Flames, 4-1

The Flames' home opener ended in a big disappointment as the Canadiens handed Calgary the first regulation loss of the season. Andrei Kostitsyn scored twice and Carey Price finished with 37 saves to lead Montreal. P.K. Subban and Travis Moen had the other goals for the Habs, and Brayden Schenn had the lone goal for Calgary.

          Game 07. Senators @ Flames, 2-1
Another tough home loss for Calgary as goals from Bobby Butler and Peter Regin were enough to keep the Flames at bay. Miikka Kiprusoff had 25 saves, while Pasca Leclaire responded with 22 saves for Ottawa. Olli Jokinen had a team-leading seventh goal.

          Game 08. Capitals @ Flames, 4-3
The Flames' recent struggles continued in a rare visit by Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals. Calgary got goals from defensemen Anton Babchuk (2) and Cory Sarich, while Eric Fehr led Washington with two goals and an assist. John Carlson and Brooks Laich had the other goals for the Capitals.

          Game 09. Flames @ Blue Jackets, 5-8
Backup goaltender Henrik Karlsson was on the receiving end of eight goals in his first start of the season. Antoine Vermette led Columbus with two goals and an assist, Derek Dorsett also scored twice and Jakub Voracek had a goal and two assists. The Flames had Greg Nemisz back in the lineup after missing four straight games with a hamstring injury.

          Game 10. Flames @ Blues, 3-4
The slumping Flames dropped five in row at St Louis. Forwards Mikael Backlund (missed 8 games) and Tim Jackman (missed 7 games) were both back in the lineup. Jarome Iginla tied the game with just four minutes late, but Cory Sarich took a hooking penalty with less than two minutes to go which resulted in the game-winning goal by T.J. Oshie.

                  INJURY REPORT:

The Canucks came to Calgary on a mission to take over the lead in the Northwest Division, but they got hammered by red-hot Flames who secured their third win in a row. Niklas Hagman, Olli Jokinen, Ales Kotalik, Jarome Iginla and Mikael Backlund all scored for Calgary. Miikka Kiprusoff was denied a shutout when Ryan Kesler scored for Vancouver with just 22.4 seconds left in the game.

                        Game 19. Kings @ Flames, 0-2

                        Game 20. Blues @ Flames, 4-2
Backup goaltender Henrik Karlsson also lost his third game of the season, as the visiting Blues doubled the Flames thanks to stellar outings by goaltender Jaroslav Halak (36 saves) and forward Patrik Berglund (2 goals and 1 assist). Jarome Iginla and Alex Tanguay scored for Calgary, but Tanguay was injured shortly after his goal and left with a groin injury.

*** Brent Sopel (upper-body, has missed 8 games) is still day-to-day. He is not on the current road trip, but he could join the team on the road when his situation improves.

*** Alex Tanguay (groin) is expected to miss a week or two. The Flames have recalled wingers David Van der Gulik and Greg Mauldin.

thank you for following! Iginla and Kiprusoff have been excellent out there, but others have been very streaky, and the injuries didn't help. Considering those problems, the record is very good I think. I really enjoy playing with the team - sometimes I lose interest in playing with a team after 10 or 20 games in, but this one has been real fun so far.

Good to hear. Do you find Iginla to be a dominating force when you have him on the ice. I know when I play against him he is hard to knock off the puck.

Yeah, he's a force out there. However, a lot of his goals have been rebounds from Tanguay, Bouwmeester or Backlund, but he also has a fantastic shot and good accuracy in the game. I often turn to him when I struggle.
