Re: Block M's Buffalo Sabres (NHL 12)

I made the mistake of assuming my day of games were the first of the playoffs on the 18th. But scheduling is strange in the second season of Be A GM mode and the playoffs actually started the day after the regular season ended so I missed the first day of games and had to update the series records above.

LA, SJ, Pittsburgh, and the NY Islanders all won in game one.

      Hodgson The Hero
BUFFALO, NY - Cody Hodgson may have saved Buffalo's season.

It looked as if it were deja vu after Andrew Ladd broke a 2-2 tie with 57 seconds left to take a 3-2 lead over Buffalo in game two. It looked even worse after Sabres center Derek Roy was hit with a goalie interference penalty trying to hustle for the puck on an icing.

Cody Hodgson was not ready to go down two games to none.

Hodgson would score shorthanded just twenty seconds after the Ladd goal to set the HSBC Arena on fire and send the game to overtime.

In overtime, in front of a ruckus crowd, who else but Cody Hodgson would take a dish from Mike Cammalleri and send it over the shoulder of Ondrej Pavelec to even the series at one game a piece.

The series shifts to Winnipeg now for a crucial game three.

Sabres Rock Jets in Game Three
WINNIPEG, MB - In a crucial game three it looked as if the momentum from the game two overtime winner carried over to Winnipeg for game three.

Buffalo found the net early and often while goal keeper Ryan Miller was on top of his game nearly pitching a shutout as Buffalo took a 2-1 series lead with a 4-1 victory.

Defensemen Robyn Regehr started the scoring with a blast on Buffalo's only power play of the game. His score put the Sabres up 1-0 at the first intermission. Thomas Vanek would make it 2-0 early into the second period and goals from Nathan Gerbe and Derek Roy made it 4-0 before the Jets even got on the board.

Ryan Miller had stopped 22 of 22 shots before a wrister by Eric Fehr got past him to make the game 4-1 late.

Thanks man, I gotta say that NHL 12 is the most enjoyable game I've ever attempted to do a dynasty with. I jump into these games and honestly have no idea if I am going to win or lose. Some I know if I play smart it should be an easy game, some are back and forth battles, others I know it's just not my night. That makes things really exciting and fun...with every goal I do a fist pump, every goal let in I kinda let my head drop. I'm invested into these games I play just like I am when watching my real life team Detroit. It's really awesome and I'm glad I decided to share this dynasty here!

              Jets Even Series at 2-2
WINNIPEG, MB - Ryan Miller finally had an off game and the Sabres were unable to muster enough offense as the Winnipeg Jets evened the series 2-2.

On the very first shot of the game Winnipeg goalie Ondrej Pavelec stopped the shot but didnt know where the puck was. Buffalo Captain Derek Roy did though, as he plucked the puck from under Pavelec and sent it into a wide open net for a very early 1-0 lead.

Winnipeg wouldnt be down for long though as Evander Kane got on the board for the first time this series then Alex Burmistrov's second goal of the series put the Jets up 2-1.

After Jason Pominville tied the game at 2-2 the Jets would score twice to take a commanding 4-2 lead with much of the third left to play.

A Robyn Regehr blast from the blue line would fine its way past Pavelec but that would not be enough as Winnipeg held on to win 4-3.

Outscored them 13-2 also. Pure domination from a team that didn't make the playoffs last season.

                    Sabres Capitalize on Jets Mistake
BUFFALO, NY - Back at a very loud HSBC Arena the Buffalo Sabres were able to edge Winnipeg to take a 3-2 series advantage with a 3-2 victory after capitalizing on a big mistake by Winnipeg goalie Ondrej Pavelec.

Tied 1-1 early in the third period Pavelec came out of the crease to attempt a quick pass back up ice and keep his team on the offensive. It backfired though as his pass went straight to Buffalo sniper Jason Pominville who had nothing but net to aim at. Pominville blasted the go ahead goal between the pipes as Pavelc raced to get back into net but it was far too late.

Winnipeg would tie the game later but from the Pavelec mistake on you couldnt help but feel Buffalo was in complete control.

At the halfway point of the third period Thomas Vanek would put Buffalo back ahead after collecting a pass from Pominville and roofing it for the 3-2 advantage which the Sabres would hold onto to claim a 3-2 series lead.

Jets Leave No Doubt; Force Game 7
WINNIPEG, MB - Winnipeg made sure there was no chance this series ended in six games.

Four second period goals, including two from Andrew Ladd, blew the doors off the Sabres to set up a pivotal game seven to determine who advances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Just as Buffalo got the breaks in game five, Winnipeg got them in game six. Early in the second a deflected puck would bolt near the crease and Ryan Miller would get it a jab to try to get it away from Winnipeg forwards. Still though Andrew Ladd would collect the puck and shoot on a net left half open by a lunging Ryan Miller.

That back breaking goal made it 2-0 but the Jets would extend their lead to 5-0 before the Sabres finally got on the board with a Jason Pominville goal early in the third.

D Tyler Myers also sent a puck past Winnipeg goalie Ondrej Pavelec to make the final score 5-2.

While the winner of game seven is yet to be determined, with Tampa Bay's series victory over the NY Islanders the Sabres or Jets now know they will see the Pittsburgh Penguins in the next round as Tampa Bay plays Montreal.

Ugh! Buffalo Sent Packing in Overtime
BUFFALO, NY - The Winnipeg Jets had Buffalos number all season long holding a 3-1 advantage in the regular season.

In the playoffs, despite Buffalo winning crucial games three and five, Winnipeg won games six and seven to oust the Buffalo Sabres.

In game seven neither team wanted to be the first to make a mistake and played safe hockey, this resulted in the game going to the third period 0-0.

Winnipeg was first to strike when Andrew Ladd tipped his own rebound through the legs of Sabres goalie Ryan Miller.

The Sabres looked done then until the Captain Derek Roy scored with 33 seconds left to keep Buffalo alive.

Momentum from the Roy goal was non-existent though as very early in the overtime period the Winnipeg Jets tossed the puck back to the blue line where D Dustin Byfuglien would blast a shot past Ryan Miller to end the Sabres' season.

The Winnipeg Jets will advance to face the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Brutal loss, such a tough way to go out. The playoffs was a step in the right direction though so hopefully you can go farther next season.
