HBO's Hard Knocks: Playoff Chase Set To Premier March 16thHere's an excerpt:
Perennial contenders are backstopped by guys like Luongo, Fleury, Quick, Price.
This team fighting for a final playoff spot is backed by two goalies that weren't on its roster at the beginning of the year, and the starter is considered washed-up by 95% of the NHL.
Perennial contenders know that every night, the bulk of the offense will come from guys like Ovechkin, Crosby, Thornton, Toews, or Kane.
This team doesn't know every night whether its offense will come from the first line or the fourth.
Fans of perennial contenders have 10-year old jerseys of players still on the team.
Fans of this team root for one player that was on the team 5 years ago.
Fans of perennial contenders can nap after the first period.
Fans of this team get nail replacement surgeries after most games.
The Buffalo Sabres are the latter: they're fighting for the final playoff spot (4th) in the Division, only 4 points up on the 7th and second-last team. They've had one of their current 4th liners center the 2nd line because of so many injuries. 5 guys out of 22 weren't on their roster at the beginning of the year.
They were supposed to tank. They tried. Yet somehow, this team is still clawing, still fighting for a playoff spot with 15 games left.
HBO's Hard Knocks: Playoff Chase will chronicle the mountains and valleys of the Buffalo Sabres through their maybe-final 15 games, visiting practices, team flights, and everything that's behind the team when the lay it all on the ice.
Hard Knocks: Playoff Chase premiers March 16th on HBO. Episode one talks about coming home from a long road trip, and a late practice which the coaches have called.

6. BUF—79 pts
7. TBL—78 pts
8. FLA—71 pts (2 games against them)
1 game against Boston as well.
Annnnnd I just figured out the playoff system, so I can pretty much kiss my playoff hopes goodbye:
4. SOmeone—83 pts
5. SOmeone—82 points.
Western Conference is insane, with Division B (Blackhawks) having 6 of 7 teams at 80+ points.
Division A is the Sharks, who lead the league with 99 points.Comment

Re: Menin Aeide Thea—A Buffalo Sabres Dynasty
I was SOOOO mad about the 3-game skid. Lundqvist shutout was just a great performance by him, but the Flyers loss was unacceptable. I literally exited in the third, one of 3 games I have not completed.
But the Carolina loss was the worst. Moulson sniped one off a faceoff 0:34 in, hit both posts and went it. Then he picked off a pass in their zone and fed Hodgson for a nice deke goal. Then second period they scored twice. 8:30 or so left in the 3rd, Moulson puts in number 2... 30 seconds later tied game. And then the crusher with 50 or so seconds left.Comment
