So far as Jets GM I have made 2 trades that I thought would be major in helping out the franchise. First trade was:
To Islanders: 2015 4th Round Pick, Minor league D-Man from the Ice Caps (Can't remember the name)
To Jets: Nabakov (I think the CPU only made the trade because I took on the salary)
It was a great run with Montoya but he kept allowing goals in like it was nothing. Luckily the Jets came back from one of his miscues (a 7-6 win over the Sharks) but we always weren't so luck (2-0 loss to the Stars). Which brings up the next trade:
To Ducks: G Montoya, D Anthony Peluso and 2015 1st Round Draft Pick
To Jets: RW Teemu Selanne, G John Gibson, 2015 6th Round Pick
Honestly this trade was part emotion, part building for the future. The Jets rid themselves of Montoya since the Nabakov trade gave us three parent club goalies on the roster. Peluso also wasn't needed as the team is stacked at both the major and minor league levels with D-Men that can play offense and break people's bones (There's a reason why I've nicknamed Dustin Byfuglien "Buffy the Forward Slayer") and the pick was high and next year but the return was worth it.
The Jets now have an almost major league ready goalie who can have some playing time with the Ice Caps as their starter, an old town fan favorite who boosts an anemic offense playing on the third line (also a veteran presence), and we got a minor pick back but it's not that bad.
Right now we're in January of 2014 and the Jets record stands at 19-15-3. We're only a point back from the Stars for 8th seed in the Western Conference.
Next game is a big showdown between the Jets and the Kings at the Staples Center.
Pros:
-D-Men: The defense has been awesome. I call Byfuglien "Buffy the Forward Slayer" because of the fact that he's already injured two forwards this year. Once by breaking Alex Ovechkins foot on a check against the glass (He's out until January 26th) and the other was giving Jamie Benn a concussion on an open ice hit.
-Goaltending: Pavelec started the year out incredibly bad but has since improved and now only has a 2.82 GAA. He also stands in 2nd in the NHL with 15 wins behind only Henrik from the good ole Rangers.
-First Line Offense: They have been our only offense really. Wheeler has 17 G's on the RW and Little is giving out assists as fast as he can and he has 18.
Cons:
-Goaltending: When he's good he's a beast. When he's bad he looks like an 8 year old strapping on skates for the first time. There seems to be no medium for Pavelec. He is either the best goalie of all time (15 wins leads most starting goalies) or he deserves to get sent down to the Ice Caps for training (His GAA had been almost 3.50 only 10 games ago. A flurry of shutouts and 1 goal games lowered it)
When I play the next few games I'll update the page and keep everyone abreast of the Jets attempt to be piloted to the Cup by Captain Ladd and his aces
