SENS HOPE TO BOUNCE BACK AFTER TOUGH OPENING WEEK ROAD TRIP
October 20th, 2021


The 2021-22 season is underway and the Senators hope to return to their new arena after going 1-3-0 in their first four games. The season opened up in Philadelphia, where the Sens were able to hold onto their two goal lead late into the third period. The Flyers were quick to get one back, after a scoring on the powerplay. A late period penalty, made for some hectic saves for Anderson, as the Flyers desperately tried to tie the game.

The team then flew all the way across the country for their next game in Vancouver. Jet Lag must have been a factor as the Senators played a sloppy first period and gave up 3 early goals. The Sens got one back in the second and exchanged a pair in the third. It was too much to overcome however, and the team was handed their first loss of the season.

Back in the Eastern Timezone for the 17th, the Sens played the Wings and the young team had more sloppy play as they managed to blow a two goal lead by giving up five straight unanswered goals. Coach Quenneville was visibly upset on the bench as the team completely unraveled.

Two days later, the Sens were in Boston to take on the Bruins. The tight game was tied 2-2 midway through the 3rd when Brad Marchand scored a goal ahead goal and then the team bagged an empty net goal to put it away.

SENS STRUGGLE TO PRODUCE

The Senators are showing that they are still a young team this year, as they continue to struggle to put the puck in the net. After an exciting 5-4 victory in Philadelphia to open the season, the team is averaging just above 2 goals per game; which in turn, puts a lot of pressure on veteran goalie Craig Anderson.

Despite coming off a Shoot-Out Win in Columbus, after a late 3rd period goal tied the game up, the Senators performed miserably in their Home Opener against Carolina. The Canes came out playing hard and scored 3 first period goals, a deficit that the Sens were unable to recover from as they would end up losing 5-2. The Sens will next travel to face the last two expansion teams as they take on the Vegas Golden Knights and the Seattle Kraken.

SENS SPLIT THE TWO GAME ROAD TRIP
October 27th, 2021


The Senators got into early penalty trouble against the opportunistic Golden Knights, when after killing off a 5 on 3, Nikita Saitsev was sent off the interference. Mark Stone redirected a Theodore blast to put Vegas up by one. Not two minutes later and Colin White was sent off for a wayward slash. The Golden Knights would waste no time going to work on the Powerplay, scoring on a set play. After and early second period goal another 5-3 would lead to a third Golden Knights Powerplay Goal.

Playing in a back to back game, the Sens came out strong against the Expansion Kraken, building a two goal lead before Seattle clawed to within one late in the third period. A flurry of saves, sealed the door as the Senators manage to preserve their lead for a much needed win.

SENS REAQUIRE BRASSARD

The Senators, who have been struggling down the middle this season, and struggling to score have made a trade for a former player by Acquiring Center Derick Brassard from the New York Islanders. Brassard played two seasons for the Senators in 2016/17 and 2017/18 and was part of that memorable playoff run when then Sens were a goal away from the Stanley Cup Finals.

In addition to Brassard, the Senators also acquire a 2022 3rd Round Pick. Going the other way is LW Mikkel Boedker.

Yes, I felt Brassard would fit in well and it's a wash for Boedker, the fact that they threw in a 3rd Round Pick was just gravy.

SENS EMBARRASSED ON HOME ICE

The ice was tilted at Canadian Tire Centre and it wasn't in favor of the home team as the Sens were blown out 8-2 by the visiting New York Islanders. The Islanders came into the game riding a 3 game winning streak, adding to the fact that work horse Craig Anderson was a last minute scratch to start the game and the Senators had a recipe for disaster.

A slow start and some sloppy play led to 4 Islander goals in the first period. It was all uphill from there however, as the Eberle led Islanders would pick up two more goals in the second and two in third. Cabot would respond on the powerplay, but it was too little too late by that point.

The Senators hope to have newly acquired Center Derick Brassard in the lineup for the next game as the Sens travel to New Jersey, to take on the Devils on October 1st.

I'll have to check my current lines, because I'm sure I'm playing WHITE on LW now.

Off the top of my head down the middle is Tierney, Anisinov, Brassard, Pageau.

My team's depth at center would probably best yours lol but considering the stage we're in, not surprising

Tavares, Matthews, Kerfoot & Boyle. Also got Haas playing 4th line wing and Gauthier scratched

LOL, yea it's been a hot minute since this team has had a decent Top 5 pick. I think Zibanejad was the last and he's on the Rangers now. I'm actually hoping to get 1st Overall, so I don't mind losing. I just hope the young prospects pan out. I think the only player on the team with a rating over 83 is Chabot.

LOL, yea it's been a hot minute since this team has had a decent Top 5 pick. I think Zibanejad was the last and he's on the Rangers now. I'm actually hoping to get 1st Overall, so I don't mind losing. I just hope the young prospects pan out. I think the only player on the team with a rating over 83 is Chabot.

Chabot becomes a monster though - he's a 94 (!!) in mine. Although Ottawa is still terrible - he was -34 last year haha.

Can you let me know if any of the other Senator players develop? Like White or Logan Brown? I am really hoping the progression system in this version is decent.
