COACH QUENNEVILLE SHAKES UP THE LINES
January 2nd, 2022
As the Senators took part in a practice, getting set to host the visiting Golden Knights, there was a noticeable absence in the locker room as the #81 stall of veteran player Ron Hainsey remained empty.
As the team took part in scrimmages and drills, it became more apparent that some lines were going to be shaken up, perhaps to induce a bit more scoring as the Sens have been ice cold in 5 on 5 situations in their past few games.
Based on today's practice, expect the lines to look like this:

VEGAS BLANKS SENS AS FLEURY STANDS TALL
January 3rd, 2022
It was not the start that Coach Quenneville was hoping for. Less then two minutes into the first period Alex Tuch scored his 8th of the season on a high snapshot after he was left alone in the high slot.
The Senators were unable to capitalize on a 5 on 3 but were able to get quite a few looks. Marc-Andre Fleury, made a brilliant glove save on Brassard during the Powerplay to keep his team ahead.
Statsny padded the Golden Knights lead at 15:48 into the second period with Vegas on the Powerplay. Left alone at the side of the net, Marchessault's slick sauce pass over Kronwall's stick would find him for his 9th of the season. Marchessault would put the game away in the 3rd with yet another Vegas Powerplay Goal for his second point on the night.
The Senators missed their chances, going 0/9 on the Powerplay, while allowing the Golden Knights to go 2/5. The story of the night however, belonged to Marc-Andre Fleury who stopped 41 shots on net to record his 3rd Shutout of the season and moving him up to 14th in Career Shutouts with 59.
Marc-Andre Fleury played stalwart in net, stopping 41 shots for his 3rd Shutout of the season, as the Golden Knights blank the Sens 3-0.SENS -

Didn't record any details, but won 5-3 versus the Seattle Kraken (who somehow are doing well in their first season). I think Brayden Point is their top scorer with 18 goals, 16 assists.SENS -

ELVIS DELIVERS STELLAR PERFORMANCE IN DEBUT
January 6th, 2022
Chants of 'Elvis' 'Elvis' was heard through Canadian Tire Centre as the newly acquired netminder dazzled in his debut for the Senators. Facing a struggling New York Islanders team, Merzlikens had to make a couple of quick saves to start, as the Islanders pressured early for a goal. The Isles were able to fire six shots on net before landing one of their own.
Late in the 1st Period, Andrew Ladd landed a vicious head shot on Ryan Callahan. Callahan was sent sprawling into the boards and lay motionless. Brouwer was quick to come to his defense and immediately dropped the gloves and landed some heavy rights before Ladd crumpled to the ice.
With time remaining on the major penalty to Ladd, the Isles took another careless penalty and put the Sens up on a 5-3. Connor Brown took advantage of a generous Varlomov rebound to score his first PPG of the season. The Isles get the equalizer at the 8:40 mark of the second period, after a weird deflection sends the puck to Brock Nelson in the low slot. He would bury it for his 10th of the season.
The end of the second and start of the third would be mired in penalties, preventing any real 5 on 5. Both goaltenders were playing great. Finally, with 5:47 left in the third, Ryan working along the boards, would find a seem to Zaitsev who walks into a bullet onetimer that rifles past Varlomov and that would prove to be the game winner.
When the dust settled, Merzlikens would stop 34 shots and Varlomov 38, with the Sens going 2/7 on the Powerplay and the Islanders going 0/7.
Elvis Merzlikens recorded his first win as a Senator as he would stop 34 shots on his way to a 2-1 win.SENS -

INJURY ALERT
LW Ryan Callahan suffered an upper body injury and entered into the NHL Concussion protocol after taking an errant elbow from the Islanders Andrew Ladd. Callahan will be sidelined and out of the lineup for 4 weeks. Clarke MacArthur has been activated and will take his spot in the lineup.SENS -

I think Connor Brown is also an ex-leaf.
But MacArthur has good pickup way back when, because I think he had concussion issues after playing well and then was let go.SENS -

DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS
January 10th, 2022
The New Jersey Devils came to Ottawa sporting a 3 game losing streak and battling some injuries. The Senators were riding a two game win streak. Things were surely looking well for the Senators, who have spent much of the season at the bottom of the standings.
It certainly didn't take long for the wheels to fall off however. While on the Powerplay, Zaitsev flubbed a pass leading to a Travis Zajac Shorthanded Goal. The Devils also managed to revitalize their Powerplay scoring twice in the second period. First on a Hall blast from the top of the circle (16) and then again on a quick snap shot from Bratt (10). The Sens responded with 2:40 remaining in the 2nd with a Powerplay Goal of their own. This time, Tkachuk would feed Tierney (13) on the far post after a nice slap pass from Zaitsev.
The Devils would keep rolling and score another Powerplay marker in the third, this time from Wood (14). Wellmore would notch is team leading 17th goal in the dying minutes of the game, but it would be too little, too late.
The Devils would end up 3/10 on the Powerplay, while the Sens went 1/7. Both Schneider and Anderson were busy in net stopping 41 and 32 shots respectively.

He retired due to health reasons sadly. I believe his last season was the year Hammond led you to an impromptu Playoff runComment
