LEAFS POUND DEVILS; ANDERSEN GETS SHUTOUT

John Tavares had a goal and 3 assists, Frederik Andersen made 18 saves and the Toronto Maple Leafs handed the New Jersey Devils their 5th straight loss, by a score of 9-0 no less

A first period that saw goals by Mitch Marner (2:22), Alex Tuch (4:33), Tomas Vanek (6:53) & Yegor Korshkov (19:16) only saw 4 New Jersey Devils shots against Frederik Andersen.

Second period wasn't much better. Again New Jersey only had 4 shots in goal, and let in goals by Tavares (1:44; this would end Blackwood's night; Marcus Hogberg would relieve him), Vanek (17:57) & Rasmus Sandin (18:41) for a 7-0 lead.

The third period was better for the Devils, as they managed to outshoot the Leafs 10-8. Unfortunately they also allowed two more goals, this time by Marner (2:34) & Dustin Brown (8:23).

If this is the kind of offensive potential the Leafs will have, it will make for an interesting season

    √ - 1st Period

    •TOR Marner {Lafreniere, Tavares}, 2:21

    •TOR Tuch {Matthews, Manson}, 4:33

    •TOR Vanek {Borgstrom}, 6:53

    •TOR Vanek {Borgstrom, Subban}, 17:57

    •TOR Sandin {Tavares}

    √ - 3rd Period

    •TOR Marner {Tavares, Subban}, 2:34

    •TOR Brown {Laughton, Brodin}, 8:23

LEAFS HOST WINLESS OILERS; BRATT OUT AGAIN

      Edmonton Oilers {0-4-1} @ Toronto Maple Leafs {4-1-0}

After returning from injury to play in yesterday's game against the Anaheim Ducks, Jesper Bratt will have to sit out the second of the back to backs. Yegor Korshkov will enter the lineup again, with Vanek shifting to Left Wing on the third line.

The Edmonton Oilers are winless in 5 games (0-4-1), despite signing goalie Brayden Holtby, and have an uphill battle against the high octane offense of the Toronto Maple Leafs (4-1-0). The Maple Leafs also feature one of the stingiest defenses so far this season. In 6 games, they've allowed just 6 goals, lowest in League (second lowest is Carolina/Minnesota with 11).

LEAFS HAND OILERS 6TH STRAIGHT LOSS; LOSE NYLANDER TO INJURY

Rookie Yegor Korshkov would score 2 goals and add an assist to help the Toronto Maple Leafs defeat the Edmonton Oilers 4-2.

William Nylander would play all of 36 seconds when a questionable hit by Darnell Nurse would take him out of the game. Alex Tuch would come to his Defense but would lose the ensuing fight.

The first period didn't see much action, even though a 4-on-4 came around midway through the period

The second is where it started. Edmonton would score the games first goal at 7:15, when Edmonton would take advantage of a slightly distracted team to score a quick goal past Andersen, ending his Shutout streak.

Yegor Korshkov would tie it with 1:04 left in the period to send the game 1-1 into intermission

Jonas Brodin would score the go-ahead goal midway through the third (12:32). Edmonton would make many attempts to come back, but then took an ill-advised hooking penalty (rookie Lucas Raymond) at 18:03. 6 seconds later, it's 3-1 courtesy of a Auston Matthews rebound

Rookie Yegor Korshkov would add his second at 19:03. Edmonton's Connor McDavid would score at 19:34 for the 4-2 final

The loss of Nylander would be huge if it's for any length of time. Stay tuned for details

            LEAFS AQUIRE BELLOWS FROM ISLANDERS

The Toronto Maple Leafs added to its physical play by acquiring Kieffer Bellows from the New York Islanders in exchange for forward Jesper Bratt.

Bellows, 23, so far has 3 goals and 5 points in 7 games, his first in the NHL. He will slot in the third line with Henrik Borgstrom and Tomas Vanek

Bratt, also 23, had 1 assist in 4 games. Last season he has 18 goals and 53 points in 78 games. This year, he couldn't find chemistry with Borgstrom and Vanek. He struggled more than usual under Coach Jacob Smabys strategy, which he never really fit to begin with.

              LEAFS REAQUIRE NYGARD

The Toronto Maple Leafs brought back forward Joakim Nygard in a trade with the Colorado Avalanche.

In exchange for Nygard, the Leafs sent forward Scott Laughton, unsigned Prospect J.C. Avon & a 2027 3rd Round Pick

Nygard, 28, played 59 games for the Maple Leafs last season, scoring 10 goals and adding 12 assists for 22 points, playing almost the entire season on the 4th line. He also had 9 goals & 23 points in 23 AHL games with the Toronto Marlies. He was over .5 points per game in the playoffs, scoring 4 goals and 11 points in 20 games, and a whopping +13.

                FINAL UPDATE

So I got NHL21. Whilst I really do want to continue this, I know my interest in the newest game will mean my updates here would be sporadic at best.

That said, I will definitely be doing a Franchise in NHL21. Will be starting one later today.

I hope everyone jumps over to my NHL21 Franchise. I haven't decided if I'm going to do the Leafs again, or an expansion team (leaning towards expansion team this year)

Cheers folks. Thank you to everyone who followed. Special thanks to Sens fan
