San Jose Sharks kick off new Campaign with Division Rival Anaheim Ducks...
PREVIEW
San Jose, CA- It's a brand new year across the National Hockey League. The San Jose Sharks are set to meet their Division foes the Anaheim Ducks. The Sharks swept the Ducks in the first round of the Playoffs back in April before losing to the Golden Knights.
"It's a new year and a lot of times you use what happened to you the previous season as motivation. We know with how we swept them in the Playoffs they'll come out fast on us." Sharks Head Coach Peter DeBoer stated.
"We had a solid year last year from what happened to us early and how we made the playoffs." Ducks Captain Ryan Getzlaf stated.
Ducks Head Coach Randy Carlyle knows the task at hand for his crew.
"San Jose is a really great team. They hit you hard, play fast, and come out swinging." Carlyle stated.
The Ducks have Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry from that 2007 Stanley Cup Team.
But gone are the days of the Ducks dominating the Pacific Division.
Last year the Ducks had their 5 year streak of Pacific Division Champions snapped.
It's a new day.
A new era.
A new Season.
When the puck drops, the Pacific Division Rivals will be at each other's throats.

San Jose, CA- Last Season in the Playoffs the San Jose Sharks(1-0-0) swept past the Anaheim Ducks(0-1-0) in the First Round. The Fins would then fall in 6 Games to the new Vegas Golden Knights.
Tonight on Opening Night inside the SAP Center, the Sharks added to their streak of victories over their Pacific Division Rivals.
"Tough Game anytime you face a Division Rival." Head Coach Peter DeBoer stated. "We swept them last year in the Playoffs and knew they would come hard at us."
But the Sharks were ready and waiting inside the "Shark Tank."
Goalie Martin Jones had a shutout to kick off the new Season as San Jose dominated the Ducks from the opening puck drop.
San Jose took a 3-0 lead in just the first Period. Ducks Goalie John Gibson struggled against the Sharks high power attack.
"San Jose was on point tonight and we can't allow for that to happen again. We got pushed around from start to finish." Ducks Head Coach Randy Carlyle stated.
But Anaheim would hold their ground in the Second Period as the Sharks ferocious attack continued.
Gibson held his own while the Ducks continued to drown. In the Third Period the Sharks added another two Goals and Anaheim Head Coach Randy Carlyle pulled his Goalie in favor of backup Ryan Miller.
"Just wasn't his night and we made the choice to pull John (Gibson) in hopes of a spark." Carlyle added.
Miller stopped the bleeding but the Ducks were shutout 5-0.
"We played very well I thought. Still a long Season ahead but if we can keep playing like how we did tonight then we can be a tough Team to beat." Sharks Head Coach Peter DeBoer stated.
The Ducks struggled on the Power Play going 0/4 as the Sharks completely shut down the Power Play.
With the Win tonight, the San Jose Sharks(1-0-0) will prepare for a tough 5 Game Road Trip.Comment

Los Angeles, CA- The San Jose Sharks(2-0-0) have found a way to get past LA Kings Goaltender Jonathan Quick.
For 4 Goals before smashing the Kings(0-1-0) 6-0 inside the Staples Center tonight.
"He's one of the best Goalies in the National Hockey League." Sharks Head Coach Peter DeBoer stated. "For us to come in and get 4 off him doesn't happen very often. It probably won't happen again."
But it did tonight.
San Jose came out firing on all cylinders but the Sharks couldn't get past Jonathan Quick.
"He's a great Goalie and for him to have a bad night doesn't happen very often." Kings Head Coach John Stevens stated.
The Sharks took a 1-0 lead heading into the Third Period off Justin Brauns Goal.
"That's what we needed to get some momentum for us." Sharks Captain Joe Pavelski stated.
The Sharks then began to score at will against Jonathan Quick as Rookie Justin Callahan scored twice.
His first Two Goals of his NHL Career.
"It was special. Especially against a guy who is so good between the pipes like Jonathan (Quick). " Callahan stated.
"Rough night for us and me personally. Just need to focus on getting back to work and getting ready for the Season ahead." Kings Goaltender Jonathan Quick stated.
Quick was pulled late in the 3rd Period and the Sharks took advantage scoring twice more.

Newark, NJ- The San Jose Sharks(6-0) keep their winning streak alive but did so by the skin of their teeth.
Scoring 2 Goals in the most crucial time possible.
"It came down to the wire but these guys just don't quit. We believe in each other and the way we find ways to win games is just something special." Sharks Head Coach Peter DeBoer stated.
New Jersey(0-2-1) had a 2 Goal lead before the Sharks found a way to win.
"We just fell apart out there on the ice. You can't do that against a Team like San Jose. They have a lot of fire power." Devils Head Coach John Hynes said.
San Jose got on the board early with a Erik Karlsson Goal but Devils
Tyler Palmieri 2nd Goal of the year tied it up at 1-1 heading into the 3rd period.
The Sharks chose to rest Goaltender Martin Jones and sent out Rookie Joey Backstrom who helped San Jose to 2 shutouts of his own.
"I felt great tonight and it was a blast." Backstrom stated. His record moves to 3-0.
But in the third period San Jose got sloppy with penalties and the Devils took advantage.
With a 5 on 3 advantage the Devils went to work and took a 2-1 lead off Taylor Hall's 3rd Goal of the year.
Jersey wouldn't stop there.
Nico Hischier punched it in past Backstrom for a 3-1 lead as the Prudential Center got loud.
"Down 2 Goals we knew we had to clean up our game. It was matter of time if we could." Sharks Captain Joe Pavelski stated.
And the Sharks did.
Veteran Joe Thornton got the Fins started with a slapshot right past Devils Goalie Cory Schneider 3-2.
"Shook that one off and stayed focused. " Schneider said.
And New Jersey did stay focused as Miles Wood blasted a shot past the Rookie Backstrom for a Devils 4-2 lead late in the third period.
"We started to feel like we were in control at that moment and then it was gone in an instant." Devils Alternate Captain Taylor Hall added.
Things got interesting in the final moments.
Sharks Timo Meier blasted a shot that cut the Devils lead to just one in the final minute. But it was Joe Pavelski's wristshot that forced overtime 4-4 with just 15 seconds left as the Prudential Center went into a state of shock.
"I saw an opening and took the shot." Pavelski added with a smile.
But in Overtime San Jose completed their comeback for their 6th straight win as Pavelski passed the puck to Rookie Tyler Adams who shot the OT Winner with 11 seconds left to hand New Jersey their 3rd straight loss.
"It was awesome! You score those kind of Goals all the time as a kid but to do it for real in Overtime is just awesome." Sharks Rookie Tyler Adams said.
The Sharks complete their 5 Game Road Trip and head back to California where they will host the Buffalo Sabres(4-2) on Thursday Night inside the SAP Center.Last edited by johnstone1987; 11-24-2021, 11:59 AM.Comment

SHARKS fall flat as SABRES end San Jose's Winning Streak with 2-0 Victory...
RECAP
San Jose, CA- After a 5 Game Road trip, the San Jose Sharks(6-1) returned home looking for their 7th straight win.
But the Buffalo Sabres(5-2) had other plans Thursday night inside the SAP Center.
"We just had no energy. Might of been that long road trip on the East Coast for us but we just fell flat on our face." Sharks Head Coach Peter DeBoer said.
San Jose stumbled out of the gate from the opening puck drop. The Sharks struggled all game long.
"We couldn't get our rhythm going. We just didn't play our game. We made mistakes and Buffalo took control. We have to rebound and get ready for the next one." Sharks Captain Joe Pavelski stated.
The Sabres(5-2) got on the board early with goals from Jack Eichel and Jeff Skinner.
Buffalo's Goalie Carter Hutton was a brick wall between the pipes turning away 12 shots as San Jose couldn't control the puck.
A 2-0 victory and Hutton picked up his second shutout in the young season.
Despite the loss tonight, San Jose sits in first place in the Pacific Division as Anaheim is still 2 Games behind.
Buffalo is hot on the heels of the Atlantic Division leading 6-0 Montreal Canadiens.
San Jose(6-1) will take tomorrow off before hosting the New York Islanders(3-2-1) Saturday Night inside the SAP Center.
