The road to the Western Conference Final goes through Edmonton, a team that seemed to really challenge the Knights this year. Led by the best player in the league, in Connor McDavid, the Oilers have shown to have high octane offense. The addition of Duncan Keith on the backend, Evander Kane on the forward lines and the resurgence of Jessie Puljujarvi has made this team a lot more competitive and dangerous.
The Knights will have to contend with Edmonton's two solid top lines. If there is one area that the Knights have the edge it's on defense and in net. Mike Smith has proven thus far to be a wild card; while the Oilers have been caught in run and gun games. Vegas has solid back end experience, led by veteran defenseman Alex Pietrangelo. Robin Lehner has also been solid in net for Vegas.
The Knights top two lines have proven to be no slouches either. In the four game sweep of the Kraken the 1st Line for Vegas tallied 16 Points; Eichel (4), Stone (8), Pacioretty (4), while the 2nd Line scored 11 Points; Marchessault (6), Karlsson (1), Smith (4). With Carrier and Dadonov getting close to returning, the Knights could potentially get their 3rd Line going as well.
In short, Vegas will have to take advantage of Home Ice and avoid playing in a run and gun style game; they will need to focus on their strengths in order to succeed in beating the Oilers.
