    WINNING DEBUT
Matteo's first stint as manager nets all points

Molineaux Stadium - Lam Matteo's name has been sung throughout the streets near the stadium, the youngest manager in the club's history at aged 30, has surpassed all expectation and taken Wolves to a comfortable victory over a strong Barnsley side 3-1.

Before the match Matteo was not expected to get off to a great start considering the side had look weary after a so-so preseason, which ended with a 2-1 loss to Getafe. Nonetheless, Wolves pressed forward, and each surging attack was led by American midfielder, Chris Pontius. Pontius was selected as man of the match for his work effort, being part of each goal Wolves scored. The offseason transfer from the MLS was listed as a high for his career, and he proved it today.

Wolves went ahead on a beautifully designed free kick play where Pontius played a short pass to a diagonal runner in Kevin Doyle, who's one touch pass to Matt Jarvis was enough for the Wolves faithful servant to blast from outside the box. The ball technology played tricks on Steele as the ball was struck with venom, but dipped at the last second, no chance for the Barnsley keeper.

Twenty minutes later, another strong breakaway for the Wolves attack, led by the piercing run of Ebanks-Blake, who sped into the penalty box, before cooly slotting a perfect pass to a wide open Kevin Doyle. The Irish international could not have had an easier goal, and it was 2-0 to Wolves; Molineaux Stadium was in tears of joy.

The visitors did manage a goal back when Hammil found just enough room at the top of the box, letting fly a hard curving, dipping ball with the outside of his foot. The ball screamed pass Hahneman, and Barnsley were within one goal at the end of the first half.

Matteo's instructions for the second half was obviously to defend the lead, but to counter when the chance arose.

The orders were heard loud and clear in the 63rd minute when Chris Pontius played a perfectly weighted ball into the path of Kevin Doyle, who had the speed to get into the box, and then seeing Shea's curling run into space, finding the American for the third goal of the match.

The final whistle was not audible, but the motion of the referee putting the device to his mouth was enough for Molineaux to erupt like a volcano of cheering for Wolves and Matteo - all mixed into one chant that signified how Wolves want to start this year.

"We put up a good fight today, and won. There is no better feeling than scoring two goals quickly - and then another for insurance. On top of that you get three different players scoring goals, it was a great day for Wolves."

Next Match: v Crewe Alexandra FC (Home - League Cup, 1st round)
Injury Notes: ST Roberts, 30 days till recovery (torn MCL)

    Glory with Wolves

As a player he flourished with them, now manager?

"There is a lot of unknown tradition with Wolverhampton. They are seriously a rags to riches story, as a player I was honored to play with them, now I can truly make a difference as a manager though. I just hope they keep chanting my name in a good way."

      WOLVES ESCAPE
Ebanks-Blake early goal puts Wolves through

      Fixture 2: nPower League Cup
      Wolves v Crewe

      1-0

Molineaux Stadium - The winning ways of Wolves has continued tonight as the side took on League 2 side Alexandra Crewe, and managing to withold the visitors in a 1-0 win. An aggressive run by Ebanks-Blake was enough when the striker managed to get a shot off, which blasted past the Crewe keeper.

Lam Matteo is continuing to impress as manager, but the win today did not come without criticism. The manager opted to play his same starting eleven from Saturday's victory over Barnsley, and did not dress any reserve players, which is a common move for league cup play.

Crewe pressured the majority of the match, allowing Wolves to counter attack on every chance, unforunately the shots were hard to come by as Crewe's defense was aggressive - and Wolves opted for one pass too many.

Wolves defense did well, and the ultra defensive tactics with under 20 minutes paid off for Matteo.

"Things went well today. They pressured us considerably, and witholding their combination attacks was the key. I'm pleased with the performance and I hope next week we can get a bit more goals."

Next Match: v Bristol City (19/24, 0 pts)

Fatigue starts to sit in, Matteo make or break time

          Injured: Haynes (Bristol City)

          Molineaux Stadium
          - Wolves managed to go without a goal in a pivotal matchup against Bristol City tonight, losing 2-0 thanks to goals by Haynes and Stead. Lam Matteo opted to play the same starting eleven from the last two matches - and fatigue was obviously a factor for the likes of Chris Pontius and Matt Jarvis, who raced up and down the wings.

The pressure was all on Wolves to perform in front of the home fans, and unfortunately it was the attack of Bristol City that prospered, each Haynes and Maynard having the majority of the shots.

The visitors pressure got the better of Karl Henry in the 15th minute, when the Wolves midfielder got his legs tangled with Maynard, eventually Henry slid into the attacker, resulting in an undisputable penalty kick.

Luck for Wolves, however, Maynard's power shot crashed into Hahnemann's cross bar.

The pressure from Bristol City did not subside, and the first goal of the game was a great relief to Danny Haynes, who had already struck 4 shots in the game - his aerodynamics paying off as he was able to stay in the air longer than Foley, quickly nodding the ball past Hahnemann.

Wolves tactics changed in the second half as counter attacks from the first half were altered to possession play. The sense of hurry resulted in some impatience and poor passing in the attacking third, the final ball never seen by either Ebanks-Blake or Doyle.

The best chance for Wolves came after Ebanks-Blake darted down the sidelines, eventually finding Kevin Doyle, who's initial header was blocked by Ribeiro, but the deflection found the foot of Pontius. Pontius side footed the ball on frame, but Gerken dove low and pushed the ball onto his post and out of play.

With the attacking aggression raised a couple of bars, it was no surprise Wolves left gaps open, and the dagger in the heart was led by Danny Haynes, this time playing the role of provider. The attacker juked his way out of a Stearman and Henry tackle, before slipping a perfectly weighted ball into Stead's path; who kept his cool and pushed it past Hahnemann to give the visitors a 2-0 lead nearing the end.

Matteo's side was unable to produce anymore shots despite their best efforts of crossing, and the young manager suffered his first loss as Wolves main man.

"First thing's first, it's very early. Like they say, better to lose earlier than later. Our promotion dreams are no where near over."

          League Position: 13th, 3 pts
          Next Match: v Blackpool (5/24, 6 pts)

          Fan Corner
If you could grab a current lower league striker, who would it be?

"Good question, I believe we targeted a player we just played today actually. Bristol City striker Danny Haynes. He had many chances today, and eventually found the back of the net with a solid header. His jumping ability for his stature is definitely impressive."

                              Hey Matt,

Haven´t checked here for a while. Cause I thought you gave up on Matteo. But 2 days ago I just couldn´t resist and checked. And things took a surprising turn. I´m glad this is up and running again. And apparently you´re motivated to keep this up for a while, since you´ve already posted as many matches as you did in the last 3 months before that with Matteo as a player. :P
I hate seeing Matteo's career end like that, but I suppose it does make sense a bit... Since his big injury he never got back to his peak, and after leaving the Wolves he didn't really know where to go. Plus the clubs in Italy kept screwing him over... So yeah, ok. :P
Lastly, I was thinking about going with Fifa this year, instead of Pes. But seeing this... nah, I'm sticking with Pes. Is EA serious?? The graphics are so ****. This looks like the Fifa games I played 10 years ago. My god. If only they had more leagues in Pes... It'd be absolutely perfect.
Anyway, can't wait to read more. Hope Matteo the coach will be lifting a whole bunch of trophies.
