    Leonardo confirmed in Milan role

Leonardo(right) speaking with former Milan manager Carlo Ancelotti(left) last season.

(Milan, Italy) - AC Milan have confrimed the new position of former player Leonardo as manager for the Italian club to start the 09/10 season.

The announcement comes after weeks of speculation of who would take the place of newly departed Carlo Ancelotti, who was signed as new manager for English side Chelsea F.C.

"I am very pleased and excited to be in this role for Milan" said Leonardo. "We all know we have to get back to the top and we have the squad to do that with."

With stars like Paolo Maldini retiring and Kaka' transferring to Real Madrid, many wonder who will take the place of these two strong figures in the Milan lineup.

Massimo Ambrosini has been tapped as new captain for the Italian side with Gennaro Gattuso becoming vice-captain.

Both Ronaldinho and Alexandre Pato look forward to the opportunity to showcase some more skill with Kaka' now gone from the club.

Leonardo has also been given complete freedom to test out the transfer window to possibly bring in some more talent to the team ahead of the start of the season.

Another confirmation Milan have made is the transfer of Michelangelo Albertazzi to Sampdoria for a reported 2.5 million(euros).

Davide Di Gennaro has also been loaned out to Parma while Ignazio Abate has been loaned to Juventus.

        Genoa falls short against Milan

Genoa - Two goals in the final three minutes got Milan out of another tough spot as they grabbed a late win over Genoa in their second game of the teams final five game tour.

With an completely different squad excluding three players, Milan took the trip to Stadio Luigi Ferraris to find their second straight win.

Ronaldinho, one of the three players to have been kept I the starting lineup from their previous game showed why he continued his playing with his early goal to gain the 1-0 lead.

Five minutes into the half, Milan took the lead after a slick pass from Clarence Seedorf caught a running Ronaldinho who put it in the back of the goal.

But Sergio Floccari brought Genoa back into the game with his strike, putting the ball past Christian Abbiati.

Genoa and Milan would hold that 1-1 draw until the final minutes when Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored the tie breaker in the 87th minute, followed by Marco Borriello's goal in the 90th minute for the 3-1 lead.

Borriello was brought into the game in the 70th minute as he substituted Filippo Inzaghi.

            Milan lose first preseason game

Gonzalo Borgessio(right) celebrates his second goal.

(St. Ettienne) - Two goals from newly acquired Gonzalo Bergessio sealed a surprising 2-0 win for French side St. Ettienne over Itaian giants AC Milan.

Bergessio's first goal came during stoppage time in the first half after a lackluster defensive positioning from the Italian side, giving him room and chance to score one past Christian Abbiati in goal.

Once again playing with a different starting squad, Milan felt the difference as Ronaldinho was left out of tonight's game, and starlet Alexandre Pato was given the role of playmaker for Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Filippo Inzaghi.

But neither of the two strikers were able to mount an attack or scoring opportunity, with St. Ettienne still holding the single goal lead heading towards the end of the second half.

Borgessio added his second of the night at the 81st minute, thanks to another woeful defensive position from both central defenders Alessandro Nesta and Kakha Kaladze.

St. Ettienne went on to take the win over AC Milan with a final score of 2-0.

Milan will now continue their preseason tour as they will host Espanyol of Spain.

              Huntelaar leads Milan past Espanyol

Marco Borriello scores his last minute goal.

(Barcelona) - It seems like Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is finding his new home in Italy a wonderful move as he scored once again for AC Milan in their final preseason game before the start of the 09/10 season

With the squad most likely to start league play with against Roma in a few days, Milan hosted Spanish club Espanyol at the San Siro and came out with a 3-1 victory.

It didn't start well for Milan as they gave up an early penalty coming off an unnecessary tackle by captain Gennaro Gattuso. The tackle also earned him a yellow card.

But Christian Abbiati came up quick as he was able to make an excellent save to keep Milan from going down early.

Daniele Bonera also joined Gattuso in getting a yellow card during the first half, which was the most action the game saw.

Huntelaar's first goal came in the second half at the 52nd minute and was followed with his second at the 68th for a 2-0 lead.

Luis Garcia managed to get one back for his side as he scored in the 82nd minute for the 2-1 score, still in favor of AC Milan.

Marco Borriello once again hit the back of the net for the 3-1 lead in the 90th minute mark to end the game for Milan and a successful preseason tour.

he does play for Bremen but I didn't think it was realistic to say I bought him from there when he only transferred to that club a few months ago...

                      10 man squad drops Roma

Ronaldinho being challenged by Roma defender Philippe Mexes.

(Milan) - A 10 man Milan squad took over the game as they handed AS Roma a 2-0 loss in the first game of the 2009/10 campaign.

Massimo Ambrosini didn't have the best debut as new Milan captain as he earned a red card in team second half to give Roma the man advantage for the remainder of the game.

But Milan kept fighting out until finally they managed to get the edge with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored his first goal at the 81st minute for the 1-0 lead.

Huntelaars goal came off a slick pass from Ronaldinho to an open and running striker as he put it past Roma goalkeeper Doni.

Alessandro Nesta, usually not a name you hear during a scoring summary, put a last minute goal on the scoreboard as Milan pulled an upset over Roma with a final score of 2-0.

                        Huntelaar scores Milan winner

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar celebrates his winning goal.

Fiorentina - In the second game of the season, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar seems to already found the sweet spot of his game as he once again found the back of the net for his second goal of the season as Milan won 1-0 over Fiorentina.

His 56th minute goal broke the deadlock that looked to continue until the end of the game, but was broken as Milan won their second game of the season and jump to first place in the league.

The former Real Madrid striker made the switch to Milan weeks after superstar Kaka' left the San Siro for the Bernabeu.

"We knew ahead of time that Huntelaar would need some time to get accustomed to the game out here" said midfielder Andrea Pirlo.

"But he's cone out strong and willing to sacrifice to play well for the club and that's all sometime we should do."

the duo of Alessandro Nesta and Daniele Bonera were the best players of the game as they shut down the Fiorentina offense being led by former Milan striker Alberto Gilardino.

Captain Gennaro Gattuso was also a big part in the win for the Rossoneri as he stepped in for suspended Massimo Ambrosini.

"We all know the style and roles we need to play and we accomplished that today" said the Italian international. "I am very proud of the whole team and how we played out there today."

                          Pepe scores in Udinese upset

Milan - After winning their first two games of the season, AC Milan looked for win number three as they hosted Udinese at the San Siro.

But Simone Pepe didn't get that information as he scored early in the first half to lead an unexpected upset for Udinese as they handed AC Milan their first loss of the season, 1-0.

Pepe's goal came with only seven minutes on the clock after the Milan defense looked their age early on.

Captain Gennaro Gattuso was the main player looked at as he didn't seem to lock on to Pepe's running into the box.

Leonardo looked displeased with his squad, with the amount of shots and possession they had throughout the game, not being able to come up with a legitimate scoring opportunity.

"We didn't play well tonight, I think we went out there and let them run the game" said Leonardo.

Milan's only action came in the second half as Ronaldinho was taken out of the game and was substituted by Alexandre Pato, his first appearance of the season.

Clarence Seedorf also stepped on the pitch as he came in for Andre Pirlo, and managed to play about 15 minutes, not making a deep enough impact to change the style of the game.

AC Milan will now look ahead as they will face Atalanta next weekend, a team they drew against during their preseason tour

                            Four goal frenzy topples Atalanta

(Milan) - Coming back from a disappointing loss last week to Udinese, AC Milan looked to get back on track as they hosted Atalanta this week and came out with a 4-0 victory.

Atalanta went down to 10 men towards the end of the first half after a reckless foul from Gianpaolo Bellini earned him a red card and an evn Mir difficult path for Atalanta to walk.

Five minutes into the second half, Marco Borriello put Milan ahead 1-0 only to be followed three minutes later with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scoring his third goal in four games, this time off a penalty kick awarded to the hosts after being brought down in the box.

Ronalinho added the third goal of the night after a missed chance from Huntelaar, with the Brazilian superstar pouncing on the rebound.

Defender Daniele Bonera did the unlikely and scored a goal for himself on the 83rd minute for the 4-0 advantage and the win for the Rossoneri.

Seedorf nets late winner over Bari

Milan - Coming off the bench as a late substitute, Clarence Seedorf showed his best as he scored a late goal in extra time as Milan defeated Bari, 1-0.

Entering the game as a substitute in the 84th minute for Andrea Pirlo, Seedorf quickly placed himself at the front of the offensive drives and made his appearance in the game count.

"It was another very good game for us but we also have to learn from this as well" said Milan manager Leonardo.

""We have been playing well but we can't leave all of our wins to the final minutes of the game, because if we do that, the game can go in any direction."

Alexandre Pato made his second appearance of the season, once again coming onto the pitch for Ronaldinho in the 63rd minute.

But as his previous appearance, Pato could not make an impact on the game.
