Milan Look Ahead For New Manager

Milan - AC Milan has confirmed the parting of manager Carlo Ancelotti as he is set to take the vacant position with English side, Chelsea FC.

"I can confirm that Carlo has left Milan and we thank him for the tremendous years that he has given the team and the organization. But for the time being, I cannot confirm who the next manager will be, we are looking at different options right at the moment" said Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani.

It has been reported that a shortlist has been compiled for the next AC Milan manager, which includes former Milan players Frank Rijkaard, Leonardo, current Russia national team head coach Guus Hiddink, and some say that newly retired Rossoneri legend Paolo Maldini has been approached by the club with the possibility of taking over.

Although no official word has been given on the situation, Maldini looks to be the more unlikely candidate to get the job as he has not expressed any desire to become a coach in the near future.

Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso spoke during an interview ahead of the team pre-season meeting about the current situation, and pleaded with the club to make a decision.
"They need to figure this out soon. We have been without a coach for a few weeks now and it is something that affects us as well, because we don't know what's going to happen with out positions in the team."

    Leonardo plans Milan victory

Milan - AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has officially announced the club has found their new manager in former player Leonardo.

After weeks of searching for a suitable replacement to Carlo Ancelotti, the Italian club is excited for the future with Leonardo at the helm.

We are very happy with the choice we have made and are excited to see what Leonardo can do with this team.
    -Adriano Galliani

With the first preseason game for Milan in just a few weeks against AS Roma, Leonardo will have a short time to evaluate his players and make the necessary decisions.

Speculation has been growing on the changes Leonardo will make to the squad, whether adding players or allowing some to leave.

    Milan has declined to comment.

        Season Preview: AC Milan

With the start of the 09/10 campaign in Serie A just mere days away, AC Milan look to regain their league winning form this season and push off their city rivals, Inter from the podium and re-claim the title of best team in Italy.

Starting off with a clean slate, a new manager, and a few new faces in the lineup, Milan will look to be a tough opponent for every club this season.

But they will be without three key members of the organization this season, starting off with head coach Carlo Ancelotti. After spending eight years with the Rossoneri, Ancelottie decided for a move to England to now lead Chelsea FC, the former club of now Inter coach Jose Mourinho.

Taking his place this season will be first time manager Leonardo. One of the most notable and considered legends at the San Siro, the Brazilian brings a expansive playing history which will hopefully help him in his new position as manager.

The most notable losses during the pre-season for AC Milan are that of midfielder Kaka' and their legendary captain Paolo Maldini.

Kaka', who has transferred to Spain and now plays for Spanish giants Real Madrid, left the club to pursue better opportunities. This can only look as a good move for certain players who will look to fill his shoes in the scoring department. Much of that weight has been put on Ronaldinho and starlet Alexandre Pato.

The biggest loss for Milan will be Maldini. A rock solid defenseman throughout his career, and a true leader, a few veterans will look to stand up and become the new voice for Milan. After 25 illustrious years, Maldini has finally hung his boots and will look to relax this season, and perhaps even catch a few games at the San Siro.

        DEFENSE:
Any good defense must start with a goalkeeper. For Milan, they have two choices for their number one goalie. Italian Christian Abbiatti and Brazilian Dida. The latter has seemed to have lost his position as starting 'keeper after an embarassing moment a few years back and will more than likely continue as Milan's number two goalie.

The defense this year will be led by veteran Alessandro Nesta who will look to have a stellar year this time around after being held back by injuries the previous seasons. Along with Nesta, veterans and newly acquired players Gianluca Zambrotta and Massimo Oddo will also be looked at as leaders on the team with their large amount of experience. Newcomers Thiago Silva and Oguchi Onyewu will have to prove they can handle playing in Italy before being given a starting position in the central defense. Replacing Paolo Maldini this season on the left side will be Marek Jankulovski. Having a few years now with Milan, Jankulovski has easily grown into his left back position after coming over as a midfielder.

        MIDFIELD:
Gennaro Gattuso and Massimo Ambrosini will be leading the midfield this year as captian and vice-captain, respectively. But the entire midfield lineup for Milan has been around the game and will be very prepared for the campaign ahead. With the likes of David Beckham, Andrea Pirlo, Clarence Seedorf, and Mathieu Flamini, Milan look to be a dangerous group in the middle of the pitch.

        FORWARDS:

Ronaldinho, Alexandre Pato, and Marco Borriello have been rumoured to be the starting forwards for their first game against Genoa. Both Ronaldinho and Pato have speed and technical ability, and along with Borriello, who has seen a growth in scoring, will look to work well with the Brazilian duo. Milan have also gained the services of Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who hopes to break into the squad but much work will be needed if he wants to get past sly veteran Filippo Inzaghi.

Although Leonardo has revealed no summer transfers will be coming to Milan, they still look like a very dangerous club with much potential to break down the Inter wall and win the Scudetto.

        Prediction: 2nd place
        Top Goal Scorer: Alexandre Pato
        Breakout Player: Alexandre Pato

        Predicted starting lineup:
        G - Abbiatti
        D - Zambrotta
        D - Nesta
        D - T. Silva
        D - Jankulovski
        M - Gattuso
        M - Flamini
        M - Pirlo
        F - Ronaldinho
        F - Pato
        F - Borriello
