The weekend began with a terrible practice session leaving Team Virgin and Brett Sergent puzzled to fine speed!
The next day was qualifying day. The drivers were awokened by severe thunderstorms and a rainy race track. Sergent said that he was pumped for the qualifying in the rain because he thought he had an advantage. He was right he qualified on pole and outmatched the 2nd place contender by 1.5 seconds.
On race day the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day for racing. Fans poured into the track in hopes that their driver will get the win. Brett Sergent led the field into one and began to pull away. The lead was evaporated when he went off course in turn 5 and fell to the 4 position. Sergent battled back in 4th place for several laps until they had to pit. He went into the pits in 4th place and came out in 13th. It was a better pit stop for Team Virgin, killing to first races 14.5 sec stop. Sergent was in hurry mode when he got back up to speed. He began passing cars and more cars pulled off the track to make their stop.
On the last lap, N. Rosberg was catching Brett Sergent quickly but he just ran out of laps. Brett Sergent gets his first podium of the year along with his first career pole. Things are looking up for Team Virgin and Brett Sergent after breaking two previous team records. The boys head to Malasyia for race number 3 of 19 in the series. Sergent has jumped up to a tie for 5th in the points championship.
Sergent was interviewed in a post-race press conference after the podium at the Melbourne Grand Prix.
Reporter: How do you feel about your first podium?
Sergent: It's my first, so it's very important.
Reporter: Have you thought about winning the title?
Sergent: I have thought about it but the team and I are taking one race at a time.
Reporter: How does the team feel about your performance?
Sergent: I'm pretty sure they are happy with the results that I have given them.
BTW I used a new replay technique so I hope everyone likes it!
