Jay Heaps & The Revs (FM12)

One year after stepping away from the playing field following his 11-year Major League Soccer career, legendary Revs defender Jay Heaps returned as the new head coach of the New England Revolution in November 2011. With his appointment, Heaps brings to the bench some of his hallmark qualities that fans and teammates appreciated during his playing days: spirit, energy, charisma, toughness, passion and tirelessness.

My goal with this Dynasty is to give a lot of updates for not only the Revs but the MLS and American soccer players that are abroad. I have modified the database to give the USMNT & MLS teams a reputation bump to make the MLS on par with French Ligue 1 and other respected European leagues.

Week 1 - Training Camps Open

All 18 MLS squads started training camps this week, including the defending champion Colorado Rapids. Entering camp Landon Donovan and the LA Galaxy are the favorites to take the crown in the 2011 season. All has been quiet on the transfer front so far in camp as teams continue to focus on getting what they have at their disposal ready for the upcoming season.

    Injury Report
Chivas USA's full-back James Riley could miss the start of the new season after suffering a hip injury during a pre-season training session.

Philadelphia's preparations for the season have been rocked by the news that Jack McInerney is facing up to 2 months out of action. The young striker suffered torn knee ligaments during training and his chances of making the first game of the season are rated 'unlikely' at best.

Perry Kitchen has seen his pre-season training schedule disrupted by a freak accident at the club's training ground. The 18 year old D.C. United central defender seems likely to miss the club's opening game of the season after falling over a cone in training and suffering strained knee ligaments.

Daneil Cyrus has seen his pre-season training schedule disrupted by a freak accident at the club's training ground. The 20 year old Sporting Kansas City striker seems likely to miss the club's opening game of the season after falling over a cone in training and suffering a lower back stress fracture.

Week 2 - Training Camps Continue, Friendlies on Horizon

Two weeks into Training Camp and still no Transfer activity from the MLS teams as everyone seems content on what they have. Surely injuries are starting to mount and we will likely see some movement in the coming weeks.

      Injury Report
San Jose defender Jason Hernández could miss the start of the new season after suffering a double hernia during a pre-season training session, according to PhysioRoom.com. The 27 year old went down in agony and is likely to be out for at least 2 months, making him a major doubt for San Jose's first game.

Real Salt Lake's midfielder Will Johnson could miss the start of the new season after suffering a hip injury during a pre-season training session.

With not long to go until the beginning of the season, Real Salt Lake's experienced midfielder Javier Morales has found himself ruled out of the club's start to their MLS campaign. The 31 year old attacking midfielder suffered a broken foot during pre-season training and early tests have indicated that he will be out for at least 4 months.

Portland Timbers' pre-season preparations have suffered a setback after Jorge Perlaza sustained a dislocated shoulder with the start of the new season looming large.

2011 Season Preview - New England Revolution

        Friendly Schedule
February 4 - at Richmond Kickers
February 10 - at Tampa Bay Rowdies
February 18 - at Montreal Impact
February 25 - vs Molde (Norway)

        Goalkeepers
Matt Reis is the sure bet to be the first team goalkeeper for the 9th season in a row. Reis has also been name Vice Captain by Jay Heaps. Bobby Shuttleworth and Tim Murray will battle throughout camp for the backup role with the Senior Squad.

        Defenders

The Defenders are probably the weakest group on the squad but there is no shortage of talent with Kevin Alston, Darrius Barnes, A.J. Soares, and Chris Tierney expected to lead the first team. John Lozano and prospect Tyler Pollak will provide adequate support off the bench.

        Midfielders
The Revs are carrying one of the better midfields in the league coming into the season with Captain Shalrie Joseph, Benny Feilhaber, and Clyde Simms being the front runners to start the season on the first team. Fernando Cardenas and Zac Boggs are expected to add depth to the midfield while Ryan Guy and Stephen McCarthy will likely start the season with the Reserves.

        Forwards
The talent is there for this group to perform well but there is definitely a lack of depth that should cause some issues at some point. Saer Sene will start the season as the first team Striker with Monsef Zerka and Kenny Mansally joining the Forwards on the first team. Zach Schilawski is the only via option the club currently has off the bench. Hot prospect Diego Fagundez may make his professional debut at some point due to the lack of depth but Heaps would prefer to bring him on slowly if at all this season.

        Staff
        Assistant Coach - Steve Myles
        Coach - Peter Fuller
        Goalkeeping Coach - Remi Roy
        Physio - Sean Kupiec
Scouts - Faustino Asprilla, Brian Thomas, Lil Fuccillo, Pablo Morant
