I was involved in the wreck and the car was down on power the rest of the race. Unfortunately the race went green flag the rest of the way with not many cars dropping out giving me the finishing position i had.

        "#23 Bryan Dehn's Day"
Yes this race sums up my 2nd season for me. I am the first to admit that I am just not working hard enough. I am not doing the things that I need to do in order to be and stay competitive each and every week. I fell asleep behind the wheel today and missed my mark causing me to spin out. That wasn't the worst part though. I was fine and able to continue with a competitive car, but I spun the tires and ended my day and nearly half of my fellow competitors. I need to wake up and start working to not only be good on the race track, but to stop doing the stupid things that threaten the safty of the other drivers on the track including myself. I took a big hit today and I hope it was enough of a wake up call or my career will be cut very short.

The car was not strong enough. I was able to hang around for half of the race before the engine started to go sour. And in my usual panic I made a huge mistake that not only cost me this race, but the next one at Michigan as well as I severely sprained my left foot and right wrist int he brutal accident. I am lucky to be alive and be able to race again, but it might not be at Michigan. That race is in 2 weeks so there is a good chance I will be able to start the race, but I might not be able to finish it.

I had yet another bad race. I wasn't able to react quick enough on 2 ovvasions today getting into the back of slowers cars with the 2nd one causing me a good finish. I don't understand why the yellow flag didn't come out, but thats NASCAR. It's up to me to get these bigger tracks down, but on the plus side they are done with for the year and I can get onto getting good finishes at the tracks I have run good on. Last year I made my season respectable and I plan on doing the same thing this year.

The man accused of favoritism and the eventual changing of the Rookie of the Year standings seems to have finally found a good car and is able to win races trying to prove he was worthy of said Rookie of the Year title. #28 Bobby Allison with his bad finish this week and the last couple of weeks has lost his nice point lead he accumulated after winning 5 of 6 races just 3 races ago and now sits 27 points behind #11 Darrell Waltrip for the season championship. There was 6 cautions on the day for 31 laps and 11 drivers each led a lap exchanging the lead 20 times during the race.

This was a good start for me getting back to the tracks I can run my best on. I got into issues getting put onto the end of the lead lap and caution flags and a loose car put me a lap down. I was able to race my way back onto the lead lap, but a caution never came out until it was my caution. A couple restarts later and I had no chance at a top 10 finish, but 12th is my first top 20 finish in 7 races.

                            Indianapolis Motor Speedway
                            Indianapolis, Indiana

In what seemed like just a pipe dream for many NASCAR had pulled their trailers through the fences onto the hallowed ground of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on August 29th, 1981 in an off week between the Busch 500 in Bristol and the Southern 500 in Darlington. 14 teams accepted the invite ranging across all 6 car manufactures in NASCAR and the best of the best NASCAR has to offer along with a couple drivers that had put many of miles on the track. This marks the first time ever that a NASCAR race car had turned laps on the world famous speedway.

Two years earlier in 1979 the story begins when Richard Childress had taken a detour on his way to Michigan to take his first ever look at the track. He just walked through an open gate and stepped up to the fence in turn 4 and said that there is no reason why NASCAR couldn't run on the track. (Real Life Link Here) Childress cited that they had been running at Ontario in California which is nearly an exact replica of Indy which hosted it's last race in 1980 before being shut down. With Texas World Speedway and the third Riverside race getting pulled from the NASCAR Schedule after 1981 that leaves only 29 races to run in 1982. John R. Cooper, a longtime NASCAR marketing executive, had just been appointed president of Indianapolis Motor Speedway at that time is now taking the first steps to allowing what many think is wrong by allowing NASCAR on the track and aggressively working towards adding a race to the NASCAR Winston Cup schedule possibly as soon as 1982.

"Led by Childress himself here are a few of the cars going around the track during practice on August 29th"

"Of course Bryan Dehn finds a way to end up in the wrong direction as he get's too much of the apron coming out of turn 2

On August 30th the 14 drivers put together a 32 lap race between themselves to see exactly what would happen with many cars in the draft and how long tires and fuel would last in a race type setting.

                            "First 10 laps"

It don't seem likely that a race will be held next year as it seems to be too soon to clear up a weekend at the track to coincide with the open dates on the Winston Cup schedule and there is talk that the Indy track officials will need some time to equip the track to hold such an event. There is talk of them inviting the top 35 in owners points sometime in April/May prior to the Indianapolis 500 next year for a near full field under race conditions to see what needs to be done with pit road and any other upgrades that may need to be done to the track facilities.

No one knows when, but everyone expects it to be a for gone conclusion that in the very near future NASCAR will be beating each others fenders at Indy.

The season points chase is looking to be a big time battle Between #28 Bobby Allison and #11 Darrell Waltrip as Allison resumes the lead over Waltrip by 24 points with a 5th place finish today. #2 Dale Earnhardt takes over 3rd in the standings, but is 324 points back from Allison and needs to visit victory lane again to try and cut into that huge lead. Something he hasn't done since the Winston 500 in May. There was 3 caution flags for 12 laps and 11 drivers each lead a lap exchanging the lead 20 different times during the race.

It was an ok day. I finished horribly. I got a lap down due to a caution flag while pitting. I worked my way back onto the lead lap like last week, but once again i was the cause of the caution and stayed a lap down. Trying to build on a top 15 finish last week and I couldn't get it done. I am fast at Richmond and I am bound to have some luck go my way.
