Genoa Promotes From Within - Di Stefano in for 2013-14
Despite saving Genoa from relegation after his appointment in January 2013, popular manager Davide Ballardini will not return for the upcoming season. Club president Enrico Preziosi announced today that youth & reserve team coach Vincenzo Di Stefano accepted a one-year contract to lead the Serie A club in what is expected to be a season of consolidation.

Club President Enrico Preziosi clearly stated his expectations for the new manager
"I am pleased to announce Vincenzo as our manager. He is well known and liked by the club and players from his work on the training ground, so while I understand skepticism from some sections of our supporters, I am confident in his ability to lead the club forward," stated Preziosi. I understand we are not ready to challenge for Europe, but I will not accept another relegation fight. The cup is important as well, as it is a source of pride for the supporters. I want to see us advance past the early stages. If he can achieve these objectives, he will stay. If not, he will go."
Di Stefano appeared at ease next to the controversial chairman, who has received multiple bans for transfer and financial irregularities during his tenure, as well as entering the dressing room during matches.
