EA UFC - Custom Fight Cards thread...

Thread was closed in the EA UFC forum and was told to open it here. This isn't a dynasty thread so much as it is a community thread for all "offline" players to share what they are doing with their own UFC universe. Feel free to share what cards you have and what your results were. This is for everyone, so jump in and start sharing! Share who's moving up the ladder in each weight class, who you've retired and CAFs you are using, etc.

I already have 7 cards scheduled. I go 5 fights per card, but, due to the limited roster, I may switch it to 4. I have only completed one card thus far (UFC 175). If you're interested, my UFC 175 card w/results is below:

    UFC 175: Weidman v Machida

    Main Card:

Bantamweight - 135 - Brad Pickett def. Mike Easton via KO, 2:06 in 3rd round

Featherweight - 145 - Chan Sung Jung def. Conor McGregor via UD (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

    Middleweight - 185 - Francis Carmont def. Costa Phillipou via UD (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

    W Bantamweight - 135 - [2] Alexis Davis def. [C] Ronda Rousey via KO (Knees) 1:29 in 3rd round

Middleweight - 185 - [C] Chris Weidman def. [1] Lyoto Machida via KO (Strikes) 3:19 in 2nd round

Gave FOTN to Rousey/Davis and KOTN to Wediman.

My UFC 176 card looks to be pretty stacked with Aldo v Mendes for the FW title as the main event. I've got Jacare v Rockhold in a unofficial #1 MW contender fight. I've got Mousasi going up against Phil Davis @ 205 and I've also got Cerrone/Miller on the card as well.

Re: EA UFC - Custom Fight Cards thread...

It's been awhile since I last played. Grad school has been busy this summer and I haven't picked up a controller in almost a week. Finally got around to playing my UFC 176 fight card. Taking that week off really showed as well. Lots of quick finishes and subs on my end due to "virtual ring rust" lol. Anyway, here was the card:

      Main Card - 155: [7] Jim Miller v [9] Donald Cerrone
      Main Card - 145: [6] Ricardo Lamas v [7] Cub Swanson
      Main Card - 205: [5] Gegard Mousasi v [8] Phil Davis

      Headline Event - 185: [1] Jacare Souza v [3] Luke Rockhold
Main Event - 145 (Featherweight Title): [C] Jose Aldo v [1] Chad Mendes

      Results:
Mendes def. Aldo via TKO (strikes) 0:55 into 1st round
Rockhold def. Souza vis sub (rear naked) 3:25 in 1st round
Mousasi def. Davis via Sub (gogoplata) 2:12 into 3rd round
Lamas def. Swanson via Sub (kimura) 4:24 into 3rd round
Cerrone def. Miller via Sub (armbar) 2:07 into 1st round

      Pics from the main event:
      Spoiler

      Awards:

      Fight of the Night: Swanson/Lamas
KO of the Night: Chad Mendes
      Sub of the Night: Mousasi

Up Next: UFC 177 Edgar v Penn III

      - Rockhold will likely get the next shot at MW Champ Chris Weidman
      - Jose Aldo may get an immediate rematch and it will likely be quick due to the fight lasting under a minute. Other than that, the only real option may be Dustin Poirier
      - Mousasi was very close to losing a decision to Davis. His late sub was impressive, but, he'll still have to get in line for a LHW title shot
      - LW division is filled with a handful of guys who are on impressive win streaks. Lots of good fights coming up.

The UFC 177 card looks like it should be a fun one! I've got Penn/Edgar (obviously), Lawler/Diaz, Lil Nog/Shogun, Bisping/Le and Hunt/Nelson. Should be a good one!

UFC 177: Penn vs Edgar III

UFC 177 sees two former champions at the 155 pound division face-off at 145. Both Frankie Edgar and BJ Penn are trying to revitalize their careers and both are hoping to make a run at the Featherweight title. In addition, we have two former Strikeforce rivals in Robbie Lawler & Nick Diaz facing off in the headline event. Filling out the card with two former PRIDE fighters in Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Mauricio Shogun Rua who previously met in the PRIDE 2005 Middleweight Grand Prix in which Shogun won via decision. We've also got Michael Bisping vs Cung Le and a potential brawl with Roy Nelson and Mark Hunt.

        FIGHT CARD:

Main Card: 265 lbs - Roy Nelson v Mark Hunt
Main Card: 185 lbs - Michael Bisping v Cung Le
Main Card: 205 lbs - Antonio Rogerio Nogueira v Shogun Rua

Headline: 170 lbs - Robbie Lawler v Nick Diaz
Main Event: 145 lbs - BJ Penn v Frankie Edgar

        Results:

Mark Hunt def. Roy Nelson via UD (29-28 all judges) 5:00 into 3rd round
This was a fantastic fight. Hunt won rounds 1 and 3 while Nelson took round 2. Both guys knocked each other on their a$$ and it really could've gone either way. A great fight. Was a total brawl and was a big win for Mark Hunt over a favored Roy Nelson.

Michael Bisping def. Cung Le via UD (29-28 all judges) 5:00 into 3rd round
Another striking battle as both guys just laid it on the line. Was even better than the Hunt/Nelson battle. Both guys were gassed at the end and were barely able to throw punches. Almost like a video game equivalent to Forrest Griffin/Stephan Bonnar TUF finale. Both guys were awarded Fight Of The Night awards and will be a candidate for fight of the year.

Shogun Rua def. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira via UD (29-28 all judges) 5:00 into 3rd round
Another excellent fight. However, this fight was much more tactical. Nogueira and Rua picked their spots throughout the fight and honestly, it really could have gone either way. A great fight no doubt, but, not the absolute show-stopper that Bisping/Le was.

Robbie Lawler def. Nick Diaz via KO 2:53 into 3rd round
This was a total comeback victory for Lawler. He lost the first two rounds of this fight and came out for round 3 like he knew it. Lawler was clearly shooting for the KO and just when it looked like he may run out of time, he landed a devastating blow that dropped Nick Diaz to the mat and out cold. Lalwer takes home Knockout Of The Night award. Diaz woke up bitching about "Wolf Tickets homie."

Frankie Edgar def. BJ Penn via KO 4:51 into 2nd round
This marks the fourth loss in a row for Penn who now finds himself in a bit of a quandry. If he wants to make a run at the 145 lbs title, he'll need to start from the bottom. He can no longer live off reputation alone, but, because the guy is a future UFC Hall of Famer, it's likely we'll give him more slack than most. Edgar on the other hand gets back to winning and looked very impressive against Penn.

FIGHT PICS (I will start to upload more, Only have 1 this time):
        Spoiler

        News/Notes:

        - Mark Hunt is going to be getting a step-up in competition as I'm looking at Bigfoot or Overeem for his next opponent. The HW division is so tough right now because so many guys (in game) are stuck in the win/loss/win/loss patter, other than Werdum it's hard to find a true contender.

        - Bisping got back on the winning track, the guy has always been a contender, but, never put enough wins together to get his shot. He was impressive here, but, I still need to see 2-3 more wins. I think it would be a fun fight against Jacare or Vitor for him.

        - Nogueira has his win streak snapped while Shogun hopes to stay on the winning track. Not sure who his next matchup may be, but, he has a championship pedigree so it may be a marquee fighter depending on how other fights shake out in the LHW division

        - Lawler had to chase the fight and he caught it. While he wasn't impressive in the first two rounds, he showed a lot of heart in his comeback victory.

        - Frankie Edgar was so impressive he may have a strong case for a shot at the 145 lbs title. However, he may have to wait till Jose Aldo gets his rematch and a shot to rectify that KO loss that took less than a minute by Chad Mendes.

Tate Injured, Out of UFC 179 bout with Sarah McMann

The UFC, and Miesha Tate, confirmed today that the former Women's Strikeforce champion will not be able to fight for at least six months with a knee injury.

With the UFC 179 card just over a month away, UFC President Dana White said that Liz Carmouche has stepped in and will replace Tate on the fight card. Carmouche, who previously fought and lost to Tate, has lost 3 of her last 4 fights and is anxious to get back into the Octagon and start climbing the women's bantamweight ladder.

***The injury to Tate was determined by using a method I created to inject some more real life elements into this universe***

Do you mind sharing what your method for injuring fighters is?

I was thinking about adding something like that with my leauge using Random.Org... with injuries, suspensions and maybe even contract disputes (like the Diaz's). I already have medical suspensions for guys who get KO'ed, but adding more should make things more interesting.

It's pretty simple. First, I got the idea from an article from MMAJunkie about the recent rash of training injuries fighters have suffered since the inception of "Dana-Care" which covers medical costs and pays the fighter their fight-pay in the event of an injury leading up to a scheduled fight.

The article noted that in the normal 10-fight event that the UFC puts on (20 fighters participating), an average of 3 fighters, around 15%, pull out due to injury since the introduction of "Dana-Care."

Whew! So, with the background info made clear I'll move onto my method. Just remember, I don't have 10 fights per card. I currently have 5 (10 total fighters) and I may move to 4 (8 total fighters). With the 5 fight events, I go to an event before the one I'm about to play to determine injuries. For example, the injury to Miesha Tate from this universe was determined by using the participants from UFC 179 because UFC 178 is about to be executed. The next set of injuries will be decided for UFC 180, and that will be done just before UFC 179.

To determine injuries, and keep in mind, injuries don't have to happen, I look at the fight card and use the random number generator from random.org. I use between 1-100. Anything from 1-15 means an injury has occurred. I continue to do this for each fight until an injury occurs. So if I get an injury in the first fight I run the generator for, then there is no need to continue to the next fights.

Once the injury is determined. I use the list randomizer option from random.org and put both participants names in the list and hit randomize. Whoever is listed first is the fighter that sustains the injury.

The last step is to use the random number generator again to determine the length of the injury. I use between 1-12 as my options. Each numbers represents the number of months the fight is out. So, if you get 6, then it is a 6 month injury to the fighter and they can not return for 6 months or 6 events in my universe.

I then highlight their name in RED and put a note about when they can return.

Sorry for the long, drawn-out, explanation, but, I just wanted it to be clear the method I use.

Re: EA UFC - Custom Fight Cards thread...

So I am currently working on my Master's degree in Sport Media & Branding. One of the topics we began talking about is penetration into a crowded global sports market and are certain sports/leagues over-saturating the market by trying to stay relevant and part of the narrative throughout the off-season (i.e. the NFL).

However, I began a conversation about the UFC and the number of events they hold each year. Last year the UFC had 33 events, this year, they will hold 43 before the year is over. From June 28th of this year till July 26th, the UFC will host 8 events! In 2004, the UFC had 5 events over the entire year.

With that being said, this has worked its way into my UFC universe. I am trying to re-create a number of real-world matchups that have already been scheduled and letting the results of those matches drive my universe. There's nothing wrong with that at all. However, I am trying to crunch everything in and using a 1 event per month model. I may switch that up and stretch things out in my universe. Especially considering that there are so many weight classes and so few fighters.

Just throwing some ideas out there and wanted to get a conversation going.

UFC 178: Jones v Gustafsson II (September 2014)

                          FIGHT CARD:

Main Card: 135 lbs (W) - Cat Zingano vs Sarah Kaufman
Main Card: 125 lbs - Ian McCall vs Luis Gaudinot
Main Card: 155 lbs - Gray Maynard vs Joe Lauzon

Co-Main Event: 155 lbs - Benson Henderson vs Khabib Nurmegomedov
Main Event: 205 lbs (LHW Title) - [C] Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson

                          RESULTS:

Cat Zingano def. Sarah Kaufman via KO 1:02 into 1st round
This seems like a flash KO. Kaufman and Zingano were just sorting of feeling each other out. They traded a few shots, no real significant strikes. Then Zingano just landed a clean left-hook and Kaufman dropped to the mat. Zingano won Knockout of the Night.

Ian McCall def. Luis Gaudinot via UD (29-27, 29-27, 30-26) 5:00 into 3rd round
Weird match scoring. Weird fight all together. Gaudinot definitely won the first round, but, was absolutely dominated by McCall after that. The most interesting thing about this match was the unique scoring line turned in by the judges.

Joe Lauzon def. Gray Maynard via TKO 4:04 into 2nd round
Not shocked by the win for J-Lau, more shocked by the method of victory. It is only the 5th time that Lauzon has scored a KO/TKO win in his career. The cool thing about this fight was that the CPU wasn't overly aggressive. Both fighters seemed to be more than willing to hold back and counter-strike rather than lead the offensive.

Khabib Nurmegomedov def. Benson Henderson via TKO 1:32 into 1st round
Again. This seemed like a flash KO. However, the CPU scored it as a TKO, but, Nurmegomedov looked to put Henderson out cold. Henderson displayed some very fast striking ability in the opening seconds which led me to believe that he would have a sizeable advantage. However, I was wrong as Nurmegomedov was able to land a heavy shot that dropped Henderson before Nurmegomedov mounted him and began to rain down shots before the stoppage.

Alexander Gustafsson def. Jon Jones via TKO 3:26 into 2nd round
The first round belonged to Jones who dominated with 3 takedowns of Gustafsson. Jones used his size to his advantage during exchanges in the first round as well with kicks to the body. It was clear that Jones' reach advantage was going to be a factor. Instead of fighting at a distance, Gustafsson worked his way close into Jones' range and landed quick shots before moving out of range. Gustafsson seemed content to trade a shot to land a shot. Eventually he landed a clean shot that wobbled Jones. At that point Gustafsson jumped into action to start firing away and land as many shots as he could. It was enough for Mario Yamasaki to end the fight and declare "The Mauler" as the new Light Heavyweight Champion!

                          FIGHT PICS:

                          Spoiler

                          NEWS/NOTES:

                          - I have run the injury method for UFC 180 and we have NO injuries for the card.

                          - I'm not big into immediate rematches when champions lose their title. If it is a long-standing title holder, it makes sense to do so. However, there are times it doesn't. When it comes to Jon Jones/Alexander Gustafsson, they have already fought twice in a year. No need for a third match right now. Right now, it looks like Cormier may get the next shot, provided that he wins his match against Rashad Evans at UFC 181.

                          - The women's division is light on talent. I don't want to schedule too many women's matches and burn out the roster just yet. However, I do want to put together a match between Rousey and Zingano down the line.

                          - Khabib Nurmegomedov earned himself a shot at Anthony Pettis for the Lightweight title. Fluke or not. Flash KO or not. That was a big, impressive win and he deserves a shot at the title.
