A New Era in the UFC

Dana White Announces New Changes to UFC

Long-time UFC President Dana White has announced several changes being made to the mixed martial-arts competition, changes that he says will help the promotion in the long run from a financial standpoint.

"We're going to lower the number of fights on a PPV card to six, with three undercard fights and three main card fights, and on non-PPV cards there will be five fights, with there being two under and three main card bouts. This will allow us to put more competition on the cards, as well as allow us to increase the longevity of our fighters' careers," said the man who has brought the UFC to international fame.

White also went on to say that "changes will be made to our rankings system ahead of our next PPV and we will begin right back with UFC 1. New system, fresh start in my eyes, as well as Lorenzo and Joe Silva's eyes as well."

The new UFC rankings will be out in the coming days and the first fight card will be released soon after.

So this is going to be kind of casual, but a fun thing to do. I will do CPU vs CPU on Hard difficulty, normal time, and watch the five and six fight cards and do short recaps of each fight, as well as FOTN, KOTN, SOTN, and the FOTY, KOTY, and SOTY. I'll do like 18 cards a year. This is going to be fun.

UFC 1: Jones vs. Gustafsson Recap: A New Light Heavyweight Champ!

#9 Tyron Woodley vs. Demian Maia:
Demian Maia had to overcome a lot of adversity in the first two rounds. His takedowns were being stuffed, submissions weren’t being locked in, and he was being outstruck. Even in the third down, down two rounds to none, he was taken down, but he reversed it, mounted Tyron Woodley, and secured a gogoplata choke at 3:28 of the third round to secure the submission and complete a solid comeback victory.
Result: Demian Maia def. #9 Tyron Woodley at 3:28 of Round 3 by SUB.

                    Gray Maynard vs. Joe Lauzon:
Round one was dominated by Joe Lauzon, as he showcased excellent takedowns and overpowered Maynard with his ground and pound. Lauzon followed up that round by landing 19 significant strikes in round two, and in round he outboxed Maynard, took him down twice, and bullied his way to a unanimous decision by a score of 30-27.
Result: Joe Lauzon def. Gray Maynard by Unanimous Decision

#8 Antonio Silva vs. Pat Barry
Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva came into this matchup with Pat Barry a very big favorite, and it was easy to see why when the fight went on. The bigger, stronger Silva, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, chose to have a kickboxing match with the former world kickboxing champ Barry, and he absolutely destroyed him. Barry took extensive amounts of damage in the third round, and it all came to fruition in a 30-27 Unanimous decision victory.
Result: #8 Antonio Silva def. Pat Barry by Unanimous Decision

#2 Joseph Benavidez vs. #4 Timothy Elliot:
Joseph Benavidez nearly ended this fight early in the first round via a mounted triangle, but he lost it just before he had it sunk in. Elliot responded by unleashing a barrage of strikes and dominating the first round. He even stunned Benavidez with less than 90 seconds left in round one. He stunned Benavidez three more times in the second round, and his last one came just before he knocked him out with a superman punch.
Result: #4 Timothy Elliot def. #2 Joseph Benavidez by KO at 3:49 of Round 2.

#4 Hector Lombard vs. #6 Nate Diaz:
Lombard nearly knocked out Diaz with a big right hand at the midway point of the first round, but could not capitalize on stunning him. He would win the round, however. He followed up his strong first round with a very poor second round, as Diaz rocked him twice, knocked him down, and then rocked him again and knocked him out with a swinging elbow! Diaz makes a huge statement with this win.
Result: #6 Nate Diaz def. #4 Hector Lombard at 2:52 of Round 2 by KO.

                    Jon Jones ( C ) vs. #1 Alexander Gustafsson:
In the main event of this event, Jon Jones put his Light Heavyweight title on the line vs. Alexander Gustafsson. He started the fight off well, weakening Gustafsson with a liver shot and stunning him in the first round with a hook to the head. However, one wrong move proved to be costly! He got reversed after taking down Gustafsson in round two, and Gustafsson locked in a kimura and made the champ tap! We have a new Light Heavyweight King!
#1 Alexander Gustafsson def. ( C ) Jon Jones at 2:11 of Round 2 by SUB.

FOTN: Joseph Benavidez vs. Tim Elliot
                    KOTN: Nick Diaz
                    SOTN: Alexander Gustafsson

Just a little suggestion. Dont tell us the result of the main event in introducing the show. It loses all suspense as to what is going to happen.

UFC Fight Night: Mendes vs. Edgar Recap

#9 Costas Philippou vs Francis Carmont:
Carmont did an excellent job early on utilizing his reach advantage, landing several kicks from the outside and taking Philippou down three times. The success with his reach continued into the second round as he continued to pick Philippou apart from the outside. He even landed a superman punch where he jumped off the fence! Philippou rocked him in the third round with a front kick, though, but couldn’t capitalize. Carmont took Philippou down later on, and almost locked in an arm triangle but failed. The fight went back to the feet, and Carmont outstruck Philippou in an exciting third round brawl to get a unanimous decision victory.
Result: Francis Carmont def. #9 Costas Philippou by unanimous decision.

#10 Antonio Rogerio Nogueria vs. Shogun Rua:
Shogun and Little Nog made this fight very exciting early, keeping the fight on the feet and swinging away. Shogun rocked Nogueria early in round one but couldn’t finish, and knocked him down with a liver shot as well. He rocked Little Nog AGAIN in round two with an uppercut, but couldn’t capitalize as he was taken down. Nogueira took Shogun down FIVE times in round two but never could finish, and in the end of round two Shogun rocked him again. Rua attempted to submit Little Nog in round 3 but failed, and Little Nog failed to submit Shogun later on. Shogun’s knockdowns proved to be important though, as they propelled him to a majority decision win.
Result: Shogun Rua def. #10 Antonio Rogerio Nogueria by majority decision.

#4 Holly Holm vs. #7 Liz Carmouche:
In Holly Holm’s UFC Debut, she showcased an excellent striking game, rocking Liz Carmouche twice in the first three minutes with a left hook and liver shot. She dished out high amounts of damage, while taking little-to-none from her opponent. But in round two, Carmouche rocked Holm, but couldn’t capitalize, and it was costly. With 7 seconds left, Holm rocked Carmouche again, and landed a beautiful head kick to knock out Carmouche! Holly Holm wins her UFC debut!
Result: #4 Holly Holm def. #7 Liz Carmouche by KO at 4:53 of Round 2.

#4 Roy Nelson vs. #9 Mark Hunt
In a battle of two explosive strikers, Roy Nelson and Mark Hunt had a very exciting fight. The two traded blows in round one, with Nelson rocking Hunt at the end of the round, but he could not finish the fight. He followed up that round by outwrestling Hunt in round two, and he won the round with ground and pound. This was the same story in round three, as “Big Country” landed takedown after takedown, and tallied an astronomical ELEVEN takedowns in the win. He also rocked Hunt in the final 15 seconds but could not knock him out. Nelson by Unanimous Decision.
Result: #4 Roy Nelson def. #9 Mark Hunt by Unanimous Decision.

#1 Chad Mendes vs. #2 Frankie Edgar:
In the five-round main event, Chad Mendes and Frankie Edgar went toe-to-toe for a shot at the Featherweight title and Jose Aldo. Round one was kind of a feeling out process, as neither fighter could get anything established. It wasn’t until round two that it got exciting. Mendes rocked Edgar two times in a row and got a knockdown, but couldn’t capitalize. Mendes worked Edgar with ground and pound in round 3, and exhibited excellent takedown defense. Mendes rocked Edgar in round four, and the next punch after that was an overhand right hook, knocking Edgar out cold! Chad Mendes will fight for the title.
Result: #1 Chad Mendes def. #2 Frankie Edgar at 1:12 of Round 4 by KO.
