Re: Return of Max Wolters | FIFA

Max Wolters first match in charge of Norwich City is an away trip in the FA Cup Round 3 at Leicester City who are in 10th place of the table.

After a busy December month Norwich are struggling with fatigue and injuries. Wolter's team selection is limited in defense with centerbacks Zimmermann and Klose out injured and Hanley out due to fatigue.

Norwich will be playing a 4-5-1 with Tim Krul between the posts, Max Aarons and Jamal Lewis playing fullbacks with LB Phillip Heise playing a centerback position alongside 21 year old Akin Famewo making his senior team debut.

Defensive midfielders Kenny McLean and Alexander Tettey play behind Marco Stiepermann with Patrick Roberts and Todd Cantwell on the wings. Up top is scoring leader Teemu Pukki.

        0' Leicester kick us off
        2' Yellow Card - R. Pereira (LEI)
Quick start for Norwich in attack with Kenny McLean finding Cantwell in space on the wing, Pereira brings him down from behind for an early yellow.
        25' Goal - A. Perez (LEI)
Terrible defending by Heise gives Leicester the lead. Perez drove into the box stumbling into Heise who failed to clear the ball giving Perez time to set his feet and find the corner from close range.
        27' Foul - R. Pereira
Pereira is lucky to be on still be on the pitch after his second foul that looked like a yellow. Cantwell again beat Pereira on the edge and was pulled down from behind a yard outside the box.
        40' Goal - T. Pukki (NOR)
And we are level! Norwich kept up the pressure and were lucky with it. A cross from Aarons deflected off Maddison falling to Pukki in the box. The big striker did the rest hitting the volley perfectly past Schmeichal.
HT - Norwich have had less possession but more chances in the first half. Wolters will be satisfied with the attack but has to be concerned with how easy Leicester scored on their only shot of the half.
60' An hour gone and still 1-1. Leicester have been the much better side in the second half not letting Norwich out of their own half so far.
        70' Goal - Y. Tielemans (LEI)
It had been coming all half, the go ahead goal for the home side and again it was an easy one. Leicester played the ball around the box before finding Tielemans in the middle of the CBs and with plenty of space. Tielemans made it look easy turning as he received the pass and finished in the right corner.
89' Last chance for Norwich with a corner. Krul comes up in the box. McLean's lofted corner is cleared to Aarons at the edge of the box but his shot goes way over the bar and that will do it.
FT: Leicester 2 Norwich City 1. Canaries are eliminated from the FA Cup.

Next for Norwich is a league match at Old Trafford. Manchester United are 6th in the table, 7 points off the top 4.

Four changes to the squad from the FA Cup defeat. Ben Godfrey and Grant Hanley are in as the new centerbacks after a much needed rest. Jamal Lewis and Max Aarons keep their place at fullbacks with Tim Krul as goalie. Moritz Leitner comes in for Tettey in midfield alongside Kenny McLean.

The last change is Emiliano Buendia at right wing for Patrick Roberts. Todd Cantwell, Marco Stiepermann and Teemu Pukki all remain in their positions. Norwich are setup as a 4-4-1-1 looking to beat Man United on the counter.

0' Martin Atkinson blows the whistle and the home side kick us off. Red Devils are big favorites tonight and will try getting off to a quick start against a sitting back Norwich defense.
          4' Yellow Card - E. Buendia (NOR)
A late challenge on Pogba earns Buendia a yellow card. The winger will need to be careful for 86 minutes now.
36' Chance! Cantwell does well to get around Wan-Bissaka and cut inside the box but his curling shot goes too high over the bar
          45'' Goal - E. Buendia (NOR)
What a break right before the half. The visitors have been defending all half but are gifted a goal in the end. Cantwell's cross looks easy enough but De Gea miss times his jump and deflects the ball to the far side where Buendia bounces and strikes home the goal.

HT - The away side have defended well but United look poor this evening so far and have barely threatened Krul. Canaries were gifted a goal late by De Gea and now will surely look to defend for 45 more minutes. At the end of the half McLean limped off and will need to be replaced. Trybull has been warming up and will start the second half.
63' miss Rashford almost ties it with a shot from distance but his effort doesn't curl enough and goes just wide. Norwich are still clingy to the one goal lead.
          71' Yellow card - A. Wan-Bissaka (MU)
Jamal Lewis has been causing problems all night on the counter attack and this time draws a foul from Wan-Bissaka leading to a yellow card.

88' Save Pogba tries a free kick from 35 yards causing a leaping save by Krul. The dipping effort looked like it might go just under the bar but Krul was able to tip it over for a last minute corner. The corner results in a easy catch for Krul as time winds down.

FT: Manchester United 0 Norwich City 1. Fantastic first win for Max Wolters coming to Old Trafford and taking three points. The attack was slow going but the defense was superb and well deserved points.

The win moves Norwich City to 13th place in the table. Next Norwich face last place Bournemouth in Wolters home debut.

              League Standings

At the start of January Liverpool are looking strong at the top of the table with only one league defeat. Mo Salah is leading the squad with 18 goals, second in the league behind Manchester City's Agüero who has 21 goals in 21 matches. Liverpool are winning with defense, only allowing 10 goals all year.

Tottenham have the second best defense but a struggling attack that ranks last out of the top 6 teams.

On the flip side Eddie Howe is at risk for losing his job with Bournemouth struggling. Only 3 wins in 22 games and 5 points from safety.

Norwich City have experienced a new manager bounce winning at Old Trafford. A tough upcoming stretch could determine if the Canaries will be safe. Tottenham, Liverpool and Wolves are all on the schedule in the next month.

Re: Return of Max Wolters | FIFA

Looking to build momentum after the Manchester United win, Norwich are favorites for once with last placed Bournemouth coming to Carrow Road. Wolters has only made one change to the lineup putting in Onel Hernandez for Todd Cantwell at the left wing position.*

Norwich City have the worst home record in the league with a 1-0-10 record under their previous manager. Wolters will be trying to turn that around with a win today.

4-4-1-1 is the formation again against Cherries 4-4-2 approach.*

0' The home side get us going wearing the usual yellow and green kit in Max Wolter's home debut.

15' Double Chance! Norwich have a good look from outside the 18 yard box but Leitner's shot goes wide of the post. The following goal kick sends Josh King through on goal but he misses the target on a one on one chance.

HT - Very poor half from both sides if we are being honest. King and Leitner had a chance each but outside of that nobody has threatened the goal. Kind of expected with the worst team in the league against the leagues worst home team.

53'' miss The best chance so far falls to Buendia who does everything right but the finish. The winger collects the ball, spins and has an open look but somehow misses the target.

56' Save! The match is really opening up now. End to end attack, this time Callum Wilson has a chance but Tim Krup comes up with a save off his knee pushing the ball wide of the post.

90' miss Most likely the final chance of the match but Wilson misses his chance to win it. Cherries play a ball over the Norwich press and Wilson takes it first time but fires too high.*

FT: Norwich City 0 Bournemouth 0. Not a great game for anyone to watch. A few chances and a few open moments but neither side looked like scoring today.*
