MAY 2003 UBF TUESDAY NIGHT FIGHTS
    Results

WW- Johnny Bratton defeats Gus Berger by KO at 2:31 of Round 1
Bratton improves to 2-0-0 (2) with an opening round knockout of Berger

WW- Jackie Fields defeats James Anson by KO at 2:11 of Round 8
Fields struggled a little at times in this fight, even appearing to lose the 3rd and 6th rounds to Anson but he made sure no doubt remained with an 8th round knockout. Fields is now 2-0-0 (2).

MW- Randy Turpin defeats Jimmy Robinson by KO at 1:03 of Round 7
Randy Turpin continued his red hot start in the UBF on Tuesday with a 7th Round knockout of Robinson. Before the fatal blow was delivered, Randy scored knockdowns in the 3rd and 5th rounds. Turpin is unblemished with 4 wins - all by knockout.

MW- Juan Roldan defeats Noodles Hass by Unanimous Decision
    Judges: 99-92, 96-95, 100-91
The newly-crowned UBF Middleweight Champion may have been suffering from a hangover from his win over Mickey Walker as he was sluggish on Tuesday night. In the end he won unanimously though not decisively on one scorecard.

HW- John Ruiz defeats Yuri Makoff by TKO at 2:13 of Round 7
A cut above Ruiz's right eye, suffered in the 4th round, was the only stain on a dominant performance. The TKO win over Makoff improves Ruiz to 5-5-0 (4).

HW- Wladimir Klitschko defeats Ellis Eyeland by Unanimous Decision
    Judges: 99-93, 100-92, 99-93
Klitschko was clearly frustrated by his inability to put Eyeland down in this one. However, a dominant performance ended with an easy unanimous decision. Dr. Steelhammer is now 10-1-0 (7).

MAY 2003 UBF WEDNESDAY NIGHT FIGHTS

Boom Boom Mancini won this won by the narrowest of margins in a very evenly fought bout. Mancini is 1-1-0 (0) while Lavigne drops to 0-2-0 (0).

LW- Rafael Ruelas defeats Ray Lampkin by Split Decision
      Judges: 94-96, 97-93, 97-93
This was a rematch of a fight between these two in February. The first match was a draw with all 3 judges scoring the bout 95-95. This fight produced a winner in Ruelas but there was still not much to separate the combatants.

LW- Joe Rivers and Jose Luis Ramirez fight to a Majority Draw
      Judges: 95-95, 92-97, 95-95
Ramirez suffered a broken nose in the 7th round and managed to win on one scorecard but the other two judges could not see a winner. It was Rivers' debut, while Ramirez is now 1-0-1 (0).

WW- Rube Ferns defeats Bobby Dikes by Split Decision
      Judges: 97-94, 98-93, 94-97
Ferns knocked Dikes down in the 10th round and won his debut in the UBF on Wednesday night. For Dikes, it was his second loss in as many bouts.

Note: I won't be saddened if "Dikes" loses his next fight and retires. Intentionally misspelling his name plays on my OCD. Lol.

WW- Carmen Basilio defeats Floyd Mayweather Sr by Unanimous Decision
      Judges: 100-95, 98-97, 98-97
Carmen Basilio, who recently joined the welterweight ranks after former champion Kid Gavilan was given an 8-month medical suspension, was victorious in his UBF debut over Mayweather. Floyd Sr. falls to 0-2-0 (0).

          UBF RUMOR MILL

Several reports, quoting anonymous sources, have surfaced that the Unified Boxing Federation is planning to add 2 more weight classes in the not-to-distant future. The reports, citing sources with knowledge of the situation, claim that the UBF is looking to add a light heavyweight division in as early as 2004 and that a longer-term plan is being considered to add a featherweight division in as early as 2005.

The sources indicate that closed door meetings have been held between UBF President steelerfan and Glory Days Boxing representatives including AZYankee to discuss the matters. Neither steelerfan nor AZYankee were willing to comment on the rumors.

In other news, the UBF is reportedly considering allowing it's most infamous fan, Money99, to once again attend fights. In July 2002 Money99 created quite a stir in the UBF when he threw a bottle that struck Joe Frazier in the 2nd round of his fight with David Tua.

The fight was ruled No Contest after police and security restored order. Money99 eventually served 147 days of a 180-day sentence stemming from the incident and was alleged to have received a lifetime ban from attending federation events. However, George Chuvalo, whose perceived slighting was being protested that night by Money99, wore a robe with "Free Money99" embroidered on it as he entered the ring for his October 2002 fight with Tyson Fury.

The robe sparked a movement and many fighters, including Frazier, have since said that Money99 has repaid his debt to society and should be allowed to support the sport once again. Stay tuned.

Re: Unified Boxing Federation (Glory Days Boxing)

I've always been a huge fan of Frazier's. This only solidifies my love for Smokin Joe!

Really tough pull for Sullivan to get Tyson for his debut.
            Hope he's able to rebound.

LW- Kenny Bogner defeats Sailor Bourne by KO at 1:04 of Round 6
Bogner landed 55 punches to Bourne's 35 and knocked Bourne down in the 1st and 5th rounds before finally disposing of him in the 6th. It was Bourne's debut, while Bogner is now 1-1-0 (1).

WW- Barney Ross and Floyd Mayweather Jr fight to a Split Draw
              Judges: 96-95, 95-96, 96-96
Fights simply do not get closer than this one. At any time one punch could have changed the course of the decision but we landed on a split draw with Floyd Jr winning the punches landed total by the narrowest of margins, 87-85.

WW- Marty Servo defeats Paddy Duffy by Unanimous Decision
              Judges: 98-94, 97-93, 96-95
Despite suffering a broken rib in the 6th round, Servo had a huge advantage in this fight and the story was best told by CompuBox. Per the computer punch tracker, Servo landed 116 punches to just 69 for Duffy.

WW- Jimmy Doyle defeats Armando Muniz by Unanimous Decision
              Judges: 96-93, 97-94, 96-94
Through 6 rounds, this fight appeared to belong to Muniz but the tide began to turn in Round 7 and Doyle dominated late. 40 of Doyle's 110 punches landed were scored in the final 3 frames. In that same span, Muniz managed just 13 punches landed of his 81 total.

LW- TITLE FIGHT: Jack McAuliffe defeats Ike Williams by KO at 2:13 of Round 3
              Referee: Dick Young
Judges: Gwen Adair, Stan Christodoulou, Glen Trowbridge
McAuliffe landed 11 fewer punches than Williams (41-30) as Williams appeared to off to a great start in his second title defense. But a right hook to Williams' left temple sent him reeling and made McAuliffe the new UBF Lightweight Champion of the World. McAuliffe will fight next month on Tuesday Night Fights.

MW- Carlos Monzon defeats Charley Fusari by TKO at 2:48 of Round 9
After feeling out his opponent for the first 4 rounds, Monzon really went on the offensive beginning in the 5th round. By the 9th round, a fatigued and battered Fusari was barely able to defend himself as Monzon landed 27 punches before the fight was stopped. For the night, Monzon landed 115 punches to just 39 for Fusari. Monzon improves to 2-0-0 (1) while Fusari is now 1-1-0 (0).

MW- Ray Robinson defeats Peter Manfredo Jr by KO at 1:31 of Round 6

MW- Michael Nunn defeats Holman Williams by TKO at 1:10 of Round 6
In his UBF debut, Nunn caught a bit of a break when a cut above Williams' left eye was opened in the 5th round. When the cut worsened, the fight was stopped at the urging of the ringside medical staff. Williams had dominated the first 4 rounds but did not land a single scoring blow in the final 2 frames. Holman Williams is now 1-1-0 (1).

HW- Jerry Quarry defeats Abe Simon by Unanimous Decision

HW- Buster Douglas defeats Tyson Fury by TKO at 1:42 of Round 6
This fight was painstakingly close up until Douglas dropped Fury in Round 6. Fury got to his feet after a 5 count, took the mandatory 8 and the was hit with another barrage from Buster that brought the match to an end. Fury falls to 3-2-1 (2) while James "Buster" Douglas is now 8-3-1 (6).

Note: the fight was scored 48-48, 48-48, 48-47 (Fury) through 5 rounds. The final total of punches landed was 58-53 Douglas. It was that close.

I'm doing the June Rankings and Fight Cards right now. I've only got the heavyweights done so far but what a card for June! It will be a HUGE month in the Heavyweight Division.

I'll post the rankings and then the fight cards as soon as I get the rest done.

JUNE 2003 UBF WEDNESDAY NIGHT FIGHTS
                          Results

LW- Tony Canzoneri defeats Sergei Artemiev by Unanimous Decision
                          Judges: 96-93, 98-92, 97-93
Artemiev suffered a cut right eye in the 5th round and a knockdown in the 6th as Canzoneri won with ease on all three scorecards. Artemiev is 0-2-0 (0) and Canzoneri is now 2-0-0 (0).

LW- Carlos Ortiz and Tracy Spann bout ruled No Contest
At 2:54 of Round 3 of the night's second bout, a structural issue caused a portion of one of the ring's neutral corners to collapse. No one was injured but the sagging corner led to the fight being cancelled along with the rest of the night's card.

With infamous UBF super fan Money99 set to attend Saturday night's 7-bout card, rumors began to fly that he was behind the collapse. Money99 had previously been banned from attending UBF events for throwing a bottle that struck Joe Frazier during his July 2002 fight with David Tua. That incident led to the Frazier-Tua bout being ruled a No Contest and Money99 being sentenced to 180 days in jail.

Within an hour of the ring collapse, UBF President steelerfan held a press conference in which he addressed the ring issue and the rumors. In part, he stated, "the ring collapse was caused by a structural failure. I assure you, any scenario that you may have heard involving sabotage is simply false."

In addition to Ortiz-Spann the following fights were cancelled and steelerfan said there is no immediate plan to reschedule any of them:

                          1. WW- #27 Aaron Davis 1-0-0 (0) vs #26 Billy Collins 0-1-0 (0)
                          2. WW- #31 Andre Berto NR vs #30 Henry Armstrong NR
                          3. WW- #39 Adolfo Viruet 0-1-0 (0) vs #38 Young Corbett III 0-1-0 (0)

Nah, we cut some corners in the UBF so I'm surprised we haven't had something much worse go wrong yet
