I must say, I had no idea some of these setups would be that much better. I knew we would be better simply by having bumped the AI strength down to 99% but not THAT much better. We will see how it goes at tracks I don't like.

DALE JARRETT PICKS UP FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON IN BRISTOL

The NASCAR Winston Cup Series rolled into 'Thunder Valley' this weekend for the running of the Food City 500. It was the first short track event of the season and the fans packed out the stands to watch the show. Steve Fulton surprised everyone including himself when he captured his first career pole. It was no fluke as he led 95 laps en route to a 3rd place finish.

It was not to be though as the tires just went away on the last run and Dale Jarrett was able to get by him to take the win. Jarrett was the 'Top Gun' award winner last year with the most victories but this is his first win on the 1998 season. Johnny Benson continues to run very well in 1998 with a 4th place run here at Bristol.

Kenny Irwin Jr. came home in 10th place to grab 'Rookie Of The Race' honors. He is really having a great start to his career in the #28 Texaco Havoline Ford. One car failed to finish and that was fellow rookie Steve Park with undisclosed engine problems.

Next week's race is from the 'Lone Star' state as the series shifts to the Texas Motor Speedway. Last years winner Dale Jarrett will look to make it back to back at Texas and in 1998. Join us for all the action as the season is really cranking up!

        BAHARI RACING WEEKLY RECAP

        Bristol, TN | Race 6/33
        START: 1st | FINISH: 3rd

After our strong run in Darlington the team looked forward heading into Bristol for the Food City 500. We had some success here last spring with a good qualifying run and know what we messed up on in the race so we were looking for a solid top-20 day at the least. We were fastest in first practice and now we were thinking let's get the pole and get in next year's Bud Shootout!

We are in the Bud Shootout next year! We laid down probably my fastest lap ever at Bristol in the game and captured the pole. We led final practice as well and we were thinking 1st win, getting into the Winston All-Star race and all the excitement had our team the talk of the garage area Sunday morning. Some were supportive and other were doubting us.

Well, we silenced the nay-sayers when we got out front and led 95 laps. I may have pushed the tires a little much on the last green flag run but we weren't falling back too much. Dale Jarrett just had the better car today. We will be back, I love this place! A third could have just as easily been a win and the team was pumped up.

        -----------------------

We will really get a feel of how good this team is at Texas and Martinsville coming up. Next week is the Texas 500 and we hope to see all the fans there.

Yeah, I downloaded a ton of setups and have been going through them. Some of them are bad but as you can tell some are awesome. I didn't think I would be running THAT well.

We have some tougher tracks like Texas, Martinsville, California and Dover coming up and they will be a real test of where we are at.

You're giving me the itch to play this game (and I did play these games when I was a kid. I definitely had the original Nascar Racing, and I think I had Nascar 4, if not others as well). But I don't know a damn thing about the mechanical side of set ups and everything. Am I to understand that you can basically download presets of that for everything?

Yeah, there are websites you can go to and find cars, tracks, setups and decals for Nascar 4, NR2002 and NR2003. NR2003 has the most stuff since it's the most popular but they have enough stuff for NR2002 to get by with a great throwback racing experience.

These are a couple sites which have plenty of stuff for NR2002. The setups you download go into that tracks garage folder and you just test them out to find one you like.

Ahhhhhh so close! What a run by Steve, I have a feeling he's going to get one on these short tracks this season. Everyone questioning Bahari's decision to hire him is eating their words right now!

I will be going out of town for the week tomorrow so their will be a break in the reporting of this career. I have a couple races done and ready to go for when I get back just know I didn't abandon the write-up.

Steve is really taking advantage of being apart of a new team, I'm glad to see he's bringing back Fulton though.

BOBBY LABONTE LEADS FLAG TO FLAG IN TEXAS 500

Bobby Labonte started from the pole and would lead every lap to win the Texas 500 in Fort Worth, TX at the Texas Motor Speedway. He was able to hold off the Penske Racing team of Jeremy Mayfield and Rusty Wallace and cruise to the victory. His pit crew was able to keep him out front through pit stops in the dominating performance by the Joe Gibbs Racing team.

Kenny Irwin, Jr. was the 'Rookie Of The Race' with his 15th place finish coming home 2 positions better than Steve Park. There were 2 cautions for 9 laps and all 43 cars were running at the finish.

Next week's race is in Martinsville, VA as the Winston Cup Series heads back to a short track. We hope to see you there for all the action!

                          BAHARI RACING WEEKLY RECAP

Fort Worth, TX | Race 7/33
                          START: 24th | FINISH: 19th

We came into Texas with our best career run at Bristol the week before. We knew it would be a tall task to back that result up and were just looking to run top-20. We are locked in so no real worry about qualifying although we want as good a starting spot as we can get. We were 23rd in practice.

We would run about the same in qualifying as we praticed and that put us 24th on the grid for the race. Our race car was good on long runs but short runs was nothing special. We were looking forward to the race.

The race was uneventful and we ran about where we started all day. I think without a late caution we may have finished a little higher with a long green flag run but we are satisfied with meeting our goals for the week.

                          -----------------------

Next week we go to Martinsville. I despise that track but think we will be able to at least keep up this year.

DALE EARNHARDT TAKES HOME ANOTHER MARTINSVILLE GRANDFATHER CLOCK

Dale Earnhardt captured his third victory of the young season in todays running of the Goody's Headache Powder 500 at the Martinsville Speedway. He was able to pry the lead from the Penske Racing grip of pole-sitter Rusty Wallace and teammate Jeremy Mayfield who led the most laps in the race. Mark Martin was the only other lap leader during pit stops of the caution free race at the short track.

Kenny Irwin, Jr. was once again your 'Rookie Of The Race' coming home in 11th position. One car failed to finish and it was Steve Fulton in the Bahari Racing Pontiac as he went to the garage on lap 7 after starting 27th.

Next week the series heads to Talladega Superspeedway for the running of the DieHard 500. The IROC Series will also be in competition as Rusty Wallace looks to win again in the series in their first race since Daytona in February. We hope to see you there!

                              Martinsville, VA | Race 8/33
                              START: 27th | FINISH: 43rd

We were heading 'home' to Martinsville Speedway this weekend. It's located near Steve's hometown and all his relatives and friends will be in attendance so he wants to run good there. Problem is he has always struggled there even in his late model days. He just can't seem to get a handle on the track even though he loves coming there.

We practiced pretty bad and were 33rd fastest in practice. We didn't have long run speed and would be looking at a long day most likely. Well, we picked up some time in qualifying to qualify 27th and were able to run a little quicker in Happy Hour to maybe see some confidence start to creep into the garage area for the team to have a good race Sunday.

That vision all went up in smoke on lap 7 when we suffered a blown engine. In practice/happy hour the engine was fine and the tempeture wasn't much different for the race so it must have been a random engine failure for us but I did see the temp spiked at 240+ when it let go. I guess the setup could have been on the edge there but we know to take some tape off the grill for next time!

                              -----------------------

Well, it's on to Talladega Superspeedway and some restrictor plate racing so we are licking our chops for some good runs. I say runs because this weekend we will be running the Busch Series and Winston Cup Series races. Thats right, we get the first look at the Texas Pete #83 Ford Taurus in the Busch Series race! See ya there!

STEVE FULTON TO MAKE BUSCH SERIES START FOR HIS OWN TEAM AT TALLADEGA

                                Belews Creek, NC

Winston Cup Series driver Steve Fulton is bringing back Fulton Motorsports this weekend in Talladega. After the team struggled in his rookie Winston Cup season he has decided to enter a handful of Busch Series and ARCA Series events for this season. Glenn Fulton is not working with the team this time around and says he wishes his grandson the best of luck in the endeavor.

Glenn Fulton: We just never could see eye to eye last season. He has talent I just wished he would have gone the path I wanted him to. He is hard headed though and I haven't got a clue where he gets it from! *wink*

The team has sponsorship from Texas Pete for this seasons limited schedule and depending on how things go the team could run full-time in one or both series next year.
