DALE JARRETT HOLDS OFF EARNHARDT FOR THE VICTORY SUNDAY

    Brooklyn, MI | Race 14/32

Dale Jarrett and Dale Earnhardt renewed their rivalry as it came down to the two drivers once again in a close finish. This time Earnhardt was unable or unwilling to move Jarrett out of the way. We will let the fans be the judge but either way Jarrett picks up yet another win and is really having a good season so far as he seeks his first championship of his career.

Mike Skinner came home 26th to pick up Rookie of the Race honors. He really has a stranglehold on the rookie points as we near the halfway point of the season.

One car failed to finish and that was the #83 of Steve Fulton who had engine problems. Next weeks race will be the first ever NASCAR Winston Cup race at California Speedway. See you there!

      NASCAR LIVE DRIVER Q&A

Eli Gold: Welcome to the show Jeff Burton fresh off a 6th place finish at Michigan Speedway. How is the season going for you guys?

Jeff Burton: Well, we haven't been running as good as we think we can but we have had some bad luck along the way too. We ran solid over at Charlotte on All-Star weekend to kind of turn this thing around.

Eli Gold: Yeah you led flag to flag in the Open then ran 4th I believe in the Winston so I would say that is really solid.

Jeff Burton: Yep, we have a great team at Roush. We have the best of the best so anything less than being near the front isn't and shouldn't be accepted. If we do our job and avoid the bad luck we should run up front.

Eli Gold: Well we wish you nothing but the best the rest of the way Jeff, thanks for coming on with us tonight. We will see you fans next week after California for another driver spotlight. Good Night.

      Driver: Jeff Burton
      Hometown: South Boston, VA
      Experience: 4th Season | 13th in 1996 Points
Team: 99 | Exide Batteries | Ford | Roush Racing

        #83 FULTON MOTORSPORTS WEEKLY RECAP

        Brooklyn, MI | Race 14/32

Michigan Speedway was another track we didn't test at. We practiced decent and had the 33rd best time in practice. If we backed it up in qualifying we would be in the show.

Qualifying was uneventful and we put our Ford in the show in 32nd place.

We got the car decent in Happy Hour and were confident we could have a decent run at Michigan. Well, we were running about 37th or so and just biding our time when a plume of smoke came out from our car. The engine wasn't having it anymore so I had to pull it in the garage and load it up on the hauler. Not a good DNF but what can you do.

DALE EARNHARDT INC. COMING TO WINSTON CUP IN 1998

          Kannapolis, NC

Dale Earnhardt held a press conference today to announce plans that he is expanding his team to field a Winston Cup team in 1998 in addition to his current Busch Series #3 team.

Driver Steve Park will be moving up to pilot the car for the new team. He will be running a limited schedule to finish out the 1997 season. This is to ensure he reamains eligible for the Rookie of the Year title in 1998. Here is a list of events he will run in 1997.

          - Pepsi 400 | Daytona International Speedway
          - Goody's Headache Powder 500 | Bristol Motor Speedway
          - UAW-GM 500 | Charlotte Motor Speedway
          - Diehard 500 | Talladega Superspeedway
          - NAPA 500 | Atlanta Motor Speedway

He will be driving the #14 Burger King Chevrolet during these races. The crew chief and team from the Busch Series will be servicing the car for the 1997 races but in 1998 there will be a new crew chief and crew assigned to the team. Steve Park was obviously excited by the news and looks forward to the 1998 season.

"Driving for Dale Earnhardt was a dream come true for me when I moved down to North Carolina from New York to begin my stock car career. He took a chance on this unknown modified driver and I hope to repay him with a Winston Cup title someday in the future."

            Mooresville, NC

Miami Dolphins legend Dan Marino has been bitten by the NASCAR bug. After watching races on TV and having an interest in getting involved in the sport he made that dream come true. He is going to partner with Bill Elliott and his current team of Bill Elliott Racing to form Elliott-Marino Racing.

They will be competing in a limited schedule in 1997 and a full season in 1998 with driver Jerry Nadeau contending for Rookie of the Year. They will be receiving financial support from First Plus Financial this year and next year. They will be using the #13 in honor of part owner Dan Marino. Here is a list of races the team plans to run in 1997.

KENNY IRWIN JR COMING TO NASCAR

              Charlotte, NC

USAC star Kenny Irwin, Jr. is making the move to North Carolina hoping to follow in the footsteps of Jeff Gordon. He is leaving the open-wheel world behind as he looks to make his mark in stock car racing. He is setup to run a limited 1997 schedule for David Blair Motorsports to get his feet wet in the NASCAR ranks.

Irwin would not comment on his plans for 1998 but says he is hopeful to be in a full-time ride and to contend for Rookie of the Year but nothing is set in stone at this moment. Here is Kenny's schedule for 1997.

              - Pepsi 400 | Daytona International Speedway
              - Brickyard 400 | Indianapolis Motor Speedway
              - Exide NASCAR Select Batteries 400 | Richmond International Raceway
              - MBNA 400 | Dover Downs International Speedway
              - Hanes 500 | Martinsville Speedway

Oh man, I love the Jayski bits! Do you plan on having the drivers and teams remain the same throughout this report, or will you mix some things up and create an alternate universe where we see things like Dale Sr. to Robert Yates (which was apparently a thing once)?

The Jayski bits will be staples throughout the career and I'm glad you enjoyed them. I am trying some different looks so the write-ups may look different here and there. I may try new things or revert back to the old way so bare with me until I find a "look" that works. I want it to look good, have pictures but not be too long of a post if that makes sense.

I will mix the storylines up quite a bit except for rookies coming in will be pretty close to real life, especially the first couple years. I will say things like injuries and deaths will not be played out in my write-up but other than that I am going to be the "writer" and it will most likely look like a totally alternate universe in 4-5 years.

I have downloaded an IROC Series carset and those 4 races per year will be coming to the career next year. I won't be in those races for a while though.

                    Dale Jarrett passes Dale Earnhardt

DALE JARRETT CONTINUES TO SHINE IN 1997

                    Fontana, CA | Race 15/32

Dale Jarrett continues to prove why his #88 Ford Quality Care Ford is the car to beat on race day as he dominated the field in the California 500 presented by NAPA. Jeff Burton lead the field to the green but quickly gave the lead up to Dale Jarrett on lap 8 and Jarrett never looked back. Only during a pit stop cycle did anyone else lead when Sterling Marlin took a turn out front.

Mike Skinner got his best finish of the season coming home 4th and captured rookie of the race as he dominates that category this season.

There were two cars in the garage at the end of the race. Lake Speed with a blown engine and David Green with an electrical problem. Next stop is the midway point of the season as we return to Daytona for the running of the Pepsi 400. Hope to see you race fans there!

That was going to be my next question regarding the injuries and deaths, especially with the Kenny Irwin bit. Excited to see how he and Adam Petty's careers turn out in your universe. Also pumped to see IROC play a part next season, really enjoyed those races!

                        NASCAR LIVE DRIVER Q&A

Eli Gold: Tonight's guest on the show is rookie driver Mike Skinner who had his career best finish of 4th place at California. Welcome to the show Mike and congratulations on the great run.

Mike Skinner: Thanks for having us Eli, I'm sorry you had to wait so long to get us on here but I'm proud to be sitting here.

Eli Gold: You are dominating the Rookie of the Year competition. How do you feel now compared to when you pulled into Daytona for the first time in February.

Mike Skinner: Yeah, we have been able to run good and we have a great team and the goal for the year was to win Rookie of the Year. I feel our team was good to begin with but personally I as a driver feel like I've come a long way. Once we start hitting these tracks for the second time I think we will have better runs than the first time around.

Eli Gold: How is it being a teammate to the great Dale Earnhardt? Is he as intimidating as we think?

Mike Skinner: He is more intimidating than you think when you first meet him! I remember walking into that meeting and being so nervous sitting with him and Richard Childress. I want nothing more than to bring home Rookie honors while he brings home title number 8 this year. That would be awesome!

Eli Gold: Yeah, I think that would be a great year for RCR. Thanks for coming on the show Mike and good luck the rest of the way. Good night race fans we will be here next week after the festivities in Daytona.

                          #83 FULTON MOTORSPORTS WEEKLY RECAP

                          Fontana, CA | Race 15/32

We rolled into California like we have done almost every race this season. Having not tested and needing to make the show on time. Practice was rough and we could only muster up a 42nd place time. We knew we had to push it to make it into the race. We were surprised a little as we had the Michigan setup in the car since the tracks are similar. On to qualifying though with the pressure on.

Well, we started off down the backstretch on our first lap and the engine let go. No warning, just complete silence. It is really unfortunate to have engine problems back to back weeks and is really bad to have it happen in qualifying where we will miss the race and get no points.

All we can do is get back at it and be glad we are going to Daytona where we ran well at in February despite not having the finish we would have liked. I would be more pumped had we ran better the last two races but it's over now and time to move on.

DW "chromed out" for Pepsi 400 at Daytona

DARRELL WALTRIP SCORES FAN FAVORITE VICTORY

                            Daytona Beach, FL

Darrell Waltrip not only had the sharpest car in the field but he had the support of the fans in the stands cheering him on as the laps wound down in the Pepsi 400. Darrell Waltrip was able to use a little gamble to get out front and win for the first time since Darlington in 1992. An emotional DW wept in Victory Lane and had this to say to Dick Berggren.

"I would be lying if I said I thought we would be in Victory Lane this year. It's been a rough go for this old dog lately but we still have some fight left in us! This chrome car sure does look pretty here in Victory Lane don't she!

DW would then break out into the "Ickey Shuffle" reminiscent of his dance he did when he won the Daytona 500 in 1989. This truly was a fan favorite win.

Kenny Irwin Jr. was your top-finishing rookie as he came home in 18th place for David Blair Motorports.

Brett Bodine was the lone DNF as he went behind the wall with engine problems early on. It was a great race here in Daytona and we look forward to seeing you fans again next week for the Jiffy Lube 300 in New Hampshire.

NASCAR LIVE WITH ELI GOLD DRIVER SPOTLIGHT

Eli Gold: Welcome to the show DW and congrats on the emotional win at Daytona in the Pepsi 400.

Darrell Waltrip: Thanks a bunch Eli, we really needed this. I really need this. My family really need this. It had been a rough year up to this point. The teams best run was when I wasn't even in the car in the Busch Clash so it was gnawing at me quite a bit.

Eli Gold: You mentioned not expecting to be in Victory Lane. Do those expectations change now that you have been back to the winner's circle?

Darrell Waltrip: In reality they don't really change much. We know that Daytona is a track where anyone can run well and win if they are in the right place at the right time. We are behind these big organizations so far resource wise it's a struggle just keeping up sometimes. We are going to continue to fight though because I ain't ready for no rocking chair just yet!

Eli Gold: Well, we certainly wish you all the best DW and look forward to seeing you get the crowd riled up like that again in the near future. Thanks for joining us tonight race fans, we will see you back here after the race in New Hampshire. Good Night!

                                #83 FULTON MOTORSPORTS WEEKLY RECAP

Daytona Beach, FL | Race 16/32

Well, not much of a report to write this week. We practiced race runs and in the draft all practice after we did a mock qualifying run. The qualifying run we did was 36th place and I was confident to be racing in the race. I was wrong, we failed to qualify and the results were not pretty in the garage area.

FULTON MOTORSPORTS TEAM GARAGE GETS WILD

Driver Steve Fulton was seen in a heated argument with his grandfather Glenn Fulton who is also the owner of the team. Crew members at one point had to get in between the two to stop things from escalating any further. They for sure weren't discussing dinner plans! Dick Berggren was able to catch up with Steve Fulton.

Dick Berggren: Quite the shouting match Steve, is everything OK?

Steve Fulton: You know Dick, we blew a motor two weeks in a row and today the car just had zero speed. It was like we had a parachute attached to the rear bumper. It gets frustrating is all. You think you are turning a corner with some good runs and then you take two steps backwards and start questioning yourself again.

Dick Berggren: What were you and your grandfather discussing if you care to say?

Steve Fulton: Well, I heard it from somewhere that "EVEN A MONKEY COULD RUN GOOD AT TALLADEGA" after we ran in the top-10. So I was just asking him if he could get that monkey to come work on the cars too!

With that the interview was over as Steve Fulton walked away and into the hauler. Lots of drama here in the #83 camp. We will stay tuned for sure!
