In four seasons as offensive coordinator Malzahn's second back has averaged 678 yards, the average yardage for Spurrier's leading rusher throughout his career has only been 718.

With that being said I'm sure Malzahn would've found some very creative ways to utilize Lattimore.

I would say if Auburn had Dyer and Lattimore it would not be out of the question at all for them to have both had 1000 yard seasons, but I guess we'll never know.

Felix Jones and Darren McFadden both shined under Malzahn at Arkansas, and Caddy and Ronnie both shined together at Auburn. If they were both at Auburn history shows they both could've been very successful. All four of those guys were more successful than any SC runningback I can recall as of late.

I doubt that would happen in the SEC West anytime soon. LSU, Alabama, and Ole Miss have stout run d's.

Felix Jones and Darren McFadden shined because Houston Nutt stripped Malzahn of the playcalling duties. Why do you think Malzahn, Mustain and Damian Williams skipped town? They weren't running the offense that Malzahn ran at Springdale with Mustain and Williams.

Agreed. Cant forget about one of the best tandems in Auburn history. The last bolded line is an excellent point....Thats why I'm saying he is able to make himself standout more at SC than at Auburn....You really don't ever see too many great runningbacks that come out of SC . Look at the NFL rosters and see how many former AU runningbacks there are in the league. He's probably going to make it to the NFL anyway, but Auburn's win % vs SC's would have made me choose AU over SC, alone.

That didn't happen until very late in the season.

Prior to the stripping of Malzahn DMac had 1219 yards and Felix had 786 through 10 games.

Then they magically started losing and everyone left, but when they were "good" it was clearly Malzahn running the offense by his lonesome. Then Nutt benched Mustain in the USC game and tinkered with the show during the LSU and Florida games and then actually stripped Malzahn of playcalling for the bowl.

That's more or less what I think.

I don't particularly care that he didn't go to Auburn, but it seems odd to choose South Carolina over say Clemson or Oregon.

It reminds me of 2006 or 2007 when Auburn got commitments from 2 or 3 highly rated receivers when Tuberville had shown absolutely no ability or desire to utilize WRs in any meaningful way.

Maybe he is a big Fred Taylor fan.....he is the only RB I remember being any good under Spurrier, well him and Eric Recht.

I would have to look it up but Spurrier's Florida offenses ran the ball pretty well if I remember correctly. http://www.gatorzone.com/football/hi...cords1996.html
Although stats don't tell the story for me. I can't blame the kid for going to the school he cheered for all through his childhood. Especially when his other school of interest has already signed one of the top RB's in the nation.

Well, I agree that it did seem odd that he chose them over Clemson or Oregon. Hell, Clemson would have been a much better choice with CJ Spiller leaving.

They have Jamie Harper coming back and that Ellington kid. Did Clemson ever really even pursue Marcus Lattimore?

I just talked to British's older brother Tabby last week and he said that he's really straightening out academics wise and will be finishing up JUCO this year and most likely be at florida state next year...also he told me Willie Downs was back in JUCO.
