Re: 2010 Recruiting Thread
this guy on rivals made this list in November
FVSports - The Elite100: Class of 2010
The Elite100: Class of 2010
***** 1. Lache Seastrunk
5'10" / 190 pounds / Running Back / Temple High School / Temple, Texas
Contenders: LSU, USC
Scouting Report: Probably the most electric HS tailback since Reggie Bush. Definition of a home-run hitter, Seastrunk's suddenness is unmatched. Has tremendous initial acceleration, change of direction, and that final gear that very few humans have. Personal best of 10.37 100m, should get that down into the 10.2s before he finishes high school. Compliments his speed with good lateral vision, and is pretty slippery on first contact. Long-jumping 20-9 in middle school, Seastrunk has tremendous leg strength, agility, and body control. Has shown flashes coming out of the backfield and should develop into a dangerous receiving threat. Not a workhorse back, Seastrunk will have to adjust from the Wing-T and show consistency running between the C gaps. Probably a better fit in a zone blocking scheme going forward. Special talent who has one of the highest ceilings of any player in this class.
***** 2. Jackson Jeffcoat
6'5" / 230 pounds / Defensive End / Plano West High School / Plano, Texas
Contenders: Texas, Oklahoma, USC
Scouting Report: Son of former ASU Sun Devils and Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Jim Jeffcoat, Jackson is blessed with his father's physical attributes and has an advanced feel for the game. As a sophomore, Jeffcoat was named All-State 5A, something that's extremely rare given the priority to upperclassmen in the state's highest classification. Has been clocked at 4.50 flat and even touched under 4.5. Shuts down passing lanes with his combination of height and plus wingspan. Disciplined and well-coached, uses his hands like an NFL-vet. Overall technique is on the same level as Devon Kennard. Doesn't appear to have Kennard's explosion off the ball, but Jeffcoat actually plays in a read-and-react defense. One could argue Jeffcoat's frame and straight-line speed gives him a higher ceiling than Kennard. Could have been the #2 prospect in the 2009 class after Barkley. Also the top basketball player in the Dallas Metroplex right now, Jeffcoat may pull a Julius Peppers and go dual-sport in college.
***** 3. Seantrel Henderson
6'8" / 300 pounds / Offensive Tackle / Cretin-Derham Hall / St. Paul, Minnesota
Contenders: Notre Dame, Ohio State, Florida, Minnesota
Scouting Report: One of the best HS offensive linemen this decade. Physical attributes are obvious. Carries his weight extremely well. Great wingspan and uses it to his advantage. What separates Henderson from his peers is how he moves on the field. A skilled basketball player who brings that athleticism to football. Has lateral quickness and body control that is rare is for a 300-pounder at any level. Great knee bend, essential considering his height. As far as pass protection goes, Henderson is as good as it gets. Great run blocker, but probably won't be dominant at the next two levels, needs to develop an edge. More of a finesse lineman in both attitude and technique. In terms of potential comparisons, more Walter Jones than Orlando Pace.
***** 4. Robert Woods
6'1" / 178 pounds / Wide Receiver / Serra High School / Gardena, California
Contenders: California, Arizona State, UCLA, USC
Scouting Report: The best wideout in Southern California as a junior. Outstanding two-way player with great COD ability. Very smooth on the field, does everything in one motion. Creates seperation with outstanding acceleration and angles. Great natural awareness and body control, Woods finishes plays better than any receiver in this class. Will need to add 10-15 pounds of muscle before playing. Will have an immediate impact in college. Plays across from another future five-star in sophomore George Farmer. Woods could also be a pretty good free safety in college because of his instincts and ball skills, but will almost certainly play wideout. Exudes a confidence and swagger on the field that a lot of high-profile kids don't.
***** 5. Michael Dyer
5'9" / 205 pounds / Running Back / Little Rock Christian High School / Little Rock, Arkansas
Contenders: Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, Ole Miss, Oklahoma
Scouting Report: Named EA Sports National Sophomore of the Year last season, and is currently on pace to eclipse 9,000 rushing yards in his prep career. Has been hand-timed in the sub 4.4 range. Dyer's greatest gift is his vision and ability to create lanes between the tackles when there aren't any. Compact frame allows him to hide behind blockers and get good leverage on first contact, which leads his ridiculous ability to break tackles. Unlike the vast majority of HS tailbacks faster than their peers, Dyer doesn't bounce everything to the outside. Should really benefit him as he transitions into college, and outside of blocking, will have a very short learning curve. Could easily be argued that Dyer is the top tailback in this class, I just value Seastrunk's ability to do more with fewer carries. Dyer will need to dominate the carries to get his maximum value. Has a lot of Curtis Martin in him.
***** 6. Robert Crisp
6'7" / 310 pounds / Offensive Tackle / Chapel Hill High School / Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Contenders: NC State, Clemson, Duke, Georgia, LSU, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, North Carolina, Tennessee
Scouting Report: The Willie Roaf to Henderson's Walter Jones. In contrast, Crisp is more of a bowling ball in run blocking, and has better upper body strength and pop. Crisp is a behemoth figure with outstanding feet for his size. In pass protection, Crisp has a good wingspan and keeps almost everyone out in front. Already has developed a nice kick step. Also plays basketball and has pretty good agility. Finishes blocks with force. Projects at either left tackle or right tackle. Doesn't quite have Henderson's upside, but hard to argue he isn't at the same level right now. Would have been one of the top offensive linemen in the 2009 class.
***** 7. Dillon Baxter
6'0" / 195 pounds / Athlete / Mission Bay High School / San Diego, California
Committed to USC
Scouting Report: A throwback of sorts, I compare Baxter to former Baltimore Colt Lenny Moore, in that he can play any position and make it look effortless. Plays five different positions including quarterback. What separates Baxter at any position is his rare COD ability. Has lightning quick feet and outstanding acceleration. His vision, jukes, and spins are well publicized, but he also has the size to carry a pile. While listed as a tailback, Baxter makes his name split out wide where he is a machine. Has made a number of highly-rated corners look silly. Put himself on the map as a freshman by repeatedly beating five-star DB Patrick Johnson. Gets consistent seperation and catches everything thrown his way. Easily the best receiving tailback I've ever seen in person. Has a strong arm as well, could be recruited a spread quarterback for the next level if he wanted. Baxter lacks elite timed speed, but it rarely shows up on the field. One of the biggest offensive mismatches in this class
***** 8. Nick Acree
6'6" / 300 pounds / Defensive Tackle / King William High School / Richmond, Virginia
Committed to Virginia Tech
Scouting Report: Monstrous prospect with special athleticism for his size. Someone who can change the opposition's game plan. Obviously stout against the run, Acree's height is a tremendous tool in clogging the opposition's passing lanes as well. Understands the nuances of his position unlike a lot of physical marvels. Unlike D.J. Fluker, who I advocated should move to offensive tackle after his sophomore year, Acree has the initial burst, balance, and aggressiveness to stay on the defensive line. Carries himself with a presence on and off the field. As expected, needs to work on consistency, hand placement, and especially pad level. Gets by with his size in high school, will need to develop his techniques in the future. Should be a tremendous force at the next two levels, a program changing talent.
***** 9. Ronald Powell
6'4" / 250 pounds / Defensive End / Rancho Verde High School / Moreno Valley, California
Contenders: USC, Florida, Auburn, Nebraska, UCLA
Scouting Report: Physically reminiscent of a young Darrell Russell, now burgeoning into a dominant three-down lineman. Started at linebacker as a freshman and sophomore, Powell's athleticism and movement for his size is of the cliched freakish variety. Great explosion off the snap combined with power and speed that few can match. Progressing from a great prospect to player, the proverbial light has gone on for Powell as a junior, as he's averaging 10 tackles and 2 sacks a game from the defensive end position. Smart player, shows a great knowledge of rush angles and anticipates ball fakes. Still raw in his techniques and had a tendency to disappear in games as an underclassman, needs to keep up his improved consistency. Has outstanding character and leadership skills, really the complete package of tools for a defensive lineman.
***** 10. Lamarcus Joyner
5'9" / 170 pounds / Miami Southeast High School / Miami, Florida
Contenders: Florida State, Miami, Florida, Boston College, Tennessee
Scouting Report: Nicknamed Mr. Frankenstein, Joyner is the definition of electric in the secondary. His instincts, both against the run and in coverage, are something that very few kids have. Makes plays all over the field. Pound-for-pound, probably the most physical kid in this class. Will knock receivers out of games. In coverage, Joyner has very good COD ability. While he doesn't have a great size/speed ratio, Joyner can turn and run with receivers that time a lot faster, and his vertical and wiry athleticism masks his lack of height. Has the versatility to play corner or safety at the next two levels. Joyner is head-and-shoulders above his peers in a somewhat down class of corners.
***** 11. Reggie Wilson
6'4" / 235 pounds / Defensive End / Haltom High School / Haltom City, Texas
Contenders: Texas, Oklahoma, LSU
Scouting Report: Violent player with a lot of potential. Physically, Wilson has a great speed/strength ratio for his build, and a pretty good motor. Possesses that rare explosion off the ball that garners offers from everyone. Understands angles and how to move on the field despite just picking up football a few years ago. His style of play makes it very difficult for offensive linemen to cut him, and he does a pretty good job of disengaging. Has plus closing speed, makes it look like the quarterback is wearing a magnet on film. Hasn't played football for very long, so he's still raw in terms of his techniques and consistency. Needs to work on his track runners stance as it gives him poor leverage and can develop into a bad habit at the next level. Overall, Wilson has one of the higher ceilings of any defensive lineman in this class.
***** 12. Louis Nix
6'2" / 320 pounds / Defensive Tackle / Raines High School / Jacksonville, Florida
Contenders: Florida, Miami, Florida State
Scouting Report: One of the more dominant HS defensive linemen you'll ever see on film. Already has the ideal size and strength of a dominant run stopper. Has absolutely the best pop from a defensive tackle since Tommie Harris. Occupies two blockers from the one-shade and can be a sneaky pass rusher from the three-technique. Consistently gets great leverage. Destroys single blocks from pretty big first coast linemen. Very quick for his size and uses his hands fairly well. Tends to punish whoever he tackles. Nix's weight is going to be a legitimate concern looking forward. Has recently had heart complications. How his body affects his development as a player remains to be seen, but he does have the work ethic to assuage any large concern. Right up there with Marcus Forston and Jacobbi McDaniel in the last couple classes, may end up the superior prospect by his senior year.
***** 13. Chris Martin
6'5" / 228 pounds / Defensive End / Bishop O'Dowd High School / Oakland, California
Contenders: Notre Dame, USC, Colorado, Stanford
Scouting Report: Probably the best player in NorCal regardless of class. Currently plays linebacker but has the tools that programs look for in a game-changing pass rusher: great frame, very long w/ room to fill out, quick first step, get off blocks quickly, and finishes plays violently. Someone who thrives on making plays happen and makes DCs adjust their game plan. Very smart player who has a good understanding of the field and pursuit angles. Aggressive but doesn't take himself out of gaps. Can drop back into coverage and shut down the passing lanes with his wingspan. Should grow into more of a weakside defensive end as he gets older. Will need to develop his rush techniques and add more lower body strength, as he's susceptible to cut blocks. Extremely versatile, his game will fit both a 4-3 or 3-4 defense.
***** 14. Jamel Turner
6'3" / 210 pounds / Linebacker / Ursuline Academy / Youngstown, Ohio
Contenders: Ohio State
Scouting Report: Explosive edge rusher, one of the most productive at the high school level in a long time. Plays defensive end, but will be forced back to outside linebacker because of his frame. Has a good base and wide shoulders, so he should be able to get in the 230-240 range by the end of college. Elite level first step up field, pretty impressive change of direction and lateral agility in space, which will help him transition positions. Possesses the best closing speed of any defensive player in this class. Good fundamentals, has already developed a few go-to pass rush moves. Holds his ground against bigger linemen at the point of attack. Hasn't played much out of a two-point stance or shown much in coverage, may have a bit of a learning curve. Would really fit best in a 3-4 scheme, or at least one that mixes fronts. In this age of versatile pass rushers, Turner has that game-changing ability that every program looks for.
***** 15. Brandon Willis
6'4" / 260 pounds / Defensive Tackle / Byrnes High School / Duncan, South Carolina
Contenders: Florida State, Georgia, Clemson, South Carolina, Tennessee
Scouting Report: One of the less hyped elite juniors in the country. Willis is a relentless and productive pass rusher, but also shows great discipline and instincts against the run. His pop off the ball is on an elite level, Willis just makes a lot of plays against great competition. Has the frame built to excel as a three-shade tackle, but can slide over to strongside end as well. Plays along the same line as Corey Miller and some other good players, so Willis doesn't have to see the constant double teams that some other guys do. Explosion and versatility are what truly define his value. Has the cliched non-stop motor that allows him to be a true three-down defensive lineman, and increases his value as such. Has that Justin Tuck-esque versatility that programs are increasingly looking for.
***** 16. Marcus Lattimore
6'0" / 215 pounds / Byrnes High School / Duncan, South Carolina
Contenders: South Carolina, Florida State, Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Clemson
Scouting Report: The prototypical workhorse back. Besides a strong frame, Lattimore has a little bit of everything skill wise: the ability to pound between the tackles, or break 10-20 yard gains off the C gaps consistently. Plays to contact, and does a good job of fighting for hidden yards. Doesn't take many negative plays. Has been timed sub 4.5, and shown glimpses of breakaway speed. Also a very capable receiver out of the backfield, with good hands, and has the body to be effective in pass protection. Lattimore is a true three-down back who can carry a team at times. Lacks the vision or balance to be considered a true franchise back. Doesn't have the big-play ability of a Dyer or Seastrunk. Has racked up a lot of mileage for a 17-year old, already totaling over 3,500 yards and 30 touchdowns in his career against elite level competition. The second five-star in this class from Byrnes, joining Brandon Willis.
***** 17. Alec Ogletree
6'3" / 210 pounds / Safety / Newnan High School / Newnan, Georgia
Contenders: Georgia, Miami, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, LSU
Scouting Report: Physically imposing athlete, the question is, is he done growing? Probably, and considering Ogletree has really good instincts for his age, it may allow him to stay at safety despite his size. If so, value goes even higher. Definition of a big hitter, but also has plus ball skills. Will be able to turn and run with most wideouts, and has the height to match up with tight ends. Sees the field well and makes quick decisions. Also excels on special teams, has blocked several kicks this year alone. Needs to pick and choose when to go for the kill shot, as it leads to missed tackles. Will have a short learning curve at the next level, should play immediately and become a feared player.
***** 18. Matt Elam
5'11" / 195 pounds / Athlete / Dwyer High School / West Palm Beach, Florida
Committed to Florida
Scouting Report: Probably the best two-way high school player in this class. Dominates as both a running back and linebacker, but his frame will likely have him playing safety in college. Elam is kind of a freak of nature, training with NFL guys as a freshman. Incredibly instinctual player, combined with his speed, puts him in position to make a lot of plays. Great finisher on both offense and defense. Has good COD ability, no wasted motion. Pretty impressive strength at contact for his size. With versatility comes the fact that he doesn't really have a natural fit at the next level. Some consider Elam a tweener, but his instincts are so good, I think he could end up Roy Williams reincarnate at safety. Should be one of the front runners for national player of the year awards as a senior.
***** 19. Trovon Reed
6'0" / 175 pounds / Wide Receiver / Thibodaux High School / Thibodaux, Louisiana
Contenders: LSU, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Ole Miss, Tennessee, USC
Scouting Report: Dynamic athlete with a great feel for the field. Reed has sub 4.4 speed and great COD ability, very smooth in and out of every cut. Plays quarterback for Thibodaux, accounting for nearly five touchdowns a game, but is being recruited as either a wideout or defensive back. I don't see anyway this kid isn't on offense at the next two levels. Over the summer, Reed dominated the camp circuit, winning WR MVP at every stop. Knows how to get seperation and has outstanding hands. As a quarterback, understands route running and the angles of the field better than most receivers. While Reed has solid height, his body is frail. Getting north of 180 pounds will be necessary to become the complete wideout he has the potential to be. Will get comparisons to former Louisiana quarterback turned wideout Early Doucet.
***** 20. Justin Maclin
6'4" / 215 pounds / Linebacker / Ridgeway High School / Memphis, Tennessee
Contenders: LSU, Tennessee, Texas Tech, USC
Scouting Report: Maclin is also under the radar in terms of hype, but won't be for very long. Physically, Maclin is one of the most impressive players in this class. With a strong basketball background, Maclin is fast, long, and versatile. A developing nightmare off the edge, Maclin also has the athleticism to turn his hips and drop back into coverage. Length and vertical takes away a throwing lane. Still raw and like many basketball players, needs to work on his first step and short-area explosion. Maclin is a wiry athlete who has upside as both a Sam backer in a 4-3 and edge rusher in a 3-4. Not nearly as polished as a Jamel Turner, but probably has the highest ceiling of any linebacker in this class, reminiscent of Rosevelt Colvin in college.
**** 21. Markeith Ambles
6'2" / 190 pounds / Wide Receiver / Henry County High School / McDonough, Georgua
Contenders: Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, Ole Miss, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, USC

Keenan Allen will probably be the next to commit to Alabama.
Hopefully Jeremy Richardson won't do like every other state of Alabama WR and wait until signing day to commit to Alabama.Twitter

Re: 2010 Recruiting Thread
God it must be nice being Texas. Never have to leave your own state to get players who will compete for conference and national titles, and you get to hold a junior day where those elite players are just salivating for a Texas offer so they can immediately commit because they grew up dreaming of being Longhorns.Comment
