It's not like Brantley is a scrub, he was one of the top QB's in the 07 class along with Newton. Newton may be more ideal for the spread, but Meyer has proven he can win with a pocket passer and a dual threat QB running the offense. It was a pretty tight race between the two in 07 and 08.

Newton is a stud...he's bigger than Tebow and can run (not a great passer in his UF days). I just think it's funny because when he's at UF he's a thug and now he goes to Auburn and he's a good get..."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

He was a thug because he stole a computer at Florida. He might be a good get now because it seems as if he's cleaned up his act.WUSTLComment

As long as he doesn't get charged with anything from this January until January 2011, it's all good.Comment

Re: 2010 Recruiting Thread
Any Auburn fans hearing that Newton committed to Auburn tonight? Things seemed to have died down a bit now, but earlier this evening people were acting like it was a done deal. I don't think that word ever came from anyone that actually covers recruiting, though. Just fans.
I figured I'd try here to see what was being said, since I can't access the premium Auburn Scout boards. (I'm pretty sure that's where the rumor started)Comment

quotes from his trip to oklahoma
"It was excellent, coach Heupel, and the Oklahoma coaching staff did a great job of hosting me. I have no complaints and no regrets of coming here," Newton said. "They made my commitment process even much more hard to decide.
"Ryan Broyles was my host. Actually this was not our first encounter, we played together in the (offense-defense) all-star game a few years ago out of high school," he said. "And Cameron Kenney, we have a lot of connections; he is from Atlanta and we know a lot of the same people. It was a good experience here, not just from a football aspect but meeting players around the town and you just make new friends while you are here.
"Honestly I didn't know what to expect coming to Oklahoma but right now I'm speechless and in awe of what I saw in the last 48 hours."I dont remember there names but they were allot of fun....Comment

Oklahoma is very much in it for Cam Newton.

Hmmm....a backfield of 5 star Cam Newton, 5 star Michael Dyer, and 5 star Marcus Lattimore. I'll take that.AUBURN TIGERS

Re: 2010 Recruiting Thread
Yeah, I think the decision day is supposed to be Tuesday, the 22nd.
Newton's acted like he was going to commit on the spot on pretty much every visit he's taken. He was standing and cheering for State while ringing a cowbell at the Egg Bowl. He sounded blown away after his Oklahoma visit. Now there's the rumor of him committing to Auburn. I'm really glad this is coming to an end soon, because it's been a roller coaster following it. I'd hate for Mullen to lose a guy he's been recruiting for a year to one of two schools that came in very late, but that's how it goes with recruiting.Comment

I'm sure the AU coaching staff is selling Cam on these points....
-You'll have an offensive line that returns 4 out of 5 starters, 3 of whom will be 4 year starters in Mike Berry, Ryan Pugh, and Lee Ziemba.
-We're bringing 2 JUCO OTs with you in January to compete for the other spot on the line.
-You'll have a slew of both experienced skill players (Mario Fannin, Terrell Zachary, Darvin Adams, DeAngelo Benton, Emory Blake, Onterrio McCalebb) and some of the best freshman talent in America (Michael Dyer, Trovon Reed, Antonio Goodwin, and most likely Marcus Lattimore).
-Graduating QB Chris Todd broke multiple AU records in his only year in Malzahn's offense. Imagine what you can do in it with the talent that is here and is coming with you in 2010.
Newton knows if he commits to AU, goes through winter workouts/Spring Ball/Summer Workouts, etc. his arrival will make AU a serious contender for Atlanta next year.
No offense to Miss. State, but they can't offer that.
If AU closes like most experts believe and finishes with the following....
4 star DE Corey Lemonier
4 star DT Jeffery Whitaker
4 star DT Marcus Thornton (or 4 star DT Bryan Jones..one of the two)
5 star RB Marcus Lattimore
5 star QB Cam Newton
4 star OT Eric Mack
Best class in school history or damn near close. Coming off a 7-5 year..that is incredible. I can't praise Coach Chizik and his staff enough on recruiting their tails off.Last edited by AuburnAlumni; 12-19-2009, 02:25 PM.AUBURN TIGERS

Re: 2010 Recruiting Thread
2 Updates:
Cam Newton commits to Auburn. He should be on campus in the next 2 weeks.
He is a 2 to play 2 guy.
Marcus Lattimore:
Lattimore talks very highly about Auburn publicly and has told at least one player on his team how much he likes Penn State as well, but until I hear differently from insiders the choice here is still South Carolina and has been since the Spring. Lattimore talks about the Gamecocks like someone talking about the place they grew up and he's just trying to keep the in-state pressure to a minimum. He has an official to South Carolina set for Jan. 15 and the process could end there, but as of right now he wants to take his officials to Oregon on Jan. 22 and Georgia on Jan. 29
The Leader: South Carolina
The Dark Horse: AuburnI dont remember there names but they were allot of fun....Comment

At this point I think I'd be safe to call South Carolina and Auburn as the two contenders for Lattimore, with Oregon, Georgia, and Penn State as dark horses.
Lattimore's recruitment seems to be a lot like Trovon Reed's. They both raved about Auburn, but everyone still thought they would commit to their home-state school. Well, Reed shocked everyone by committing to Auburn, it will be interesting to see if Lattimore follows suit.
BTW, nice copy/paste from rivals.Last edited by auburntigersfan; 12-20-2009, 12:30 AM.WUSTLComment
