I am getting the feeling his dad may be a little shady.

Very much like the Bush case I would not be surprised if his father was the engine that was driving this stuff. If it's indeed true.

Extortion issues? With regards to what? This is all entirely bizarre...

On another note, I read on another site that some current MSU players have said that Cam was talking about the money during the recruiting process. It was posted by an Ohio State fan and I haven't seen it anywhere else so take with a grain of salt.

          wat

Have you never followed SEC crootin? You don't think anyone has anything to gain from saying "Auburn is going to be on probation for 800 years"?

I can think of 13 schools (SEC minus Vandy, FSU, and Clemson) who have a ton to gain from this. Obviously I don't think any of them are involved aside from maybe MSU and possibly Florida, but to say that nobody would gain by bad rumors of Auburn is ridiculous. When Auburn was investigated by SACS they had their worst crootin year that I've seen at Auburn because schools were telling kids that their degrees would be worthless.

With regards to the best player in college football and an alleged $180,000. It could be anything from Cecil threatening MSU to pay him the money to someone saying "pay me or I'm going to say you took $180,000" to Cam and Cecil.

If true, I hope Cecil is punished severely. Also I hope Cam stays clean. Whatever happens to Auburn happens.

            Once again, if true.

Obviously it's about Cam/Cecil...I just wonder what the angle is. Like you said, there is a wide range of angles in play here.

After reading some of the boards this morning (they seem to have as much information as anyone and by that I mean random speculation), I wouldn't be surprised if the extortion was Rogers trying to get $100,000-180,000 from an MSU booster on the premise of a Newton commitment.

That would explain why MSU coaches didn't stop recruiting him and why Auburn, at least as of yet, is not under investigation.

An SEC associate commissioner states that if the alleged Newton to MSU phone calls occurred, MSU didn't feel like reporting them to the SEC.

Also states that one of the MSU "recruiters" used in the ESPN story was Rogers himself. This has gone past ridiculous.

In other news I hope UNC gets the death penalty as it has came out Hakeem Nicks was getting paid while at Chapel Hill.

I thought he paid players? Example: travel expenses

UNC isn't going to get the death penalty with what we know right now.

Auburn should get it if the Newton allegations hold but they won't.

Hmmm...that could be a very real scenario. Who knows at this point.

They should bring it back, I don't buy the whole "OHH LOOK SMU IS STILL RECOVERING 20+ Years Later bit"

You cheat that bad, you deserve to be pretty much down to intramural status.

If everything is true a Mississippi St former player had illegal contact in recruiting a player.

There hasn't been a single accusation that hasn't been proven false (the phone calls between Newton and MSU coaches) that implicates Auburn in anything. At worst Newton would possibly be ineligible. Nobody has actually accused Auburn of paying for Newton.
