SC should get hit for failing to monitor no doubt. But the punishment should fit the crime. Going on past precedent this is far beyond. Someone on the infractions committee had an axe to grind. I'll give you a few tries to guess who.

Oh well. It's over. Time to move on.
It's probable that, as was the case with Bush & USC, the NCAA will wait until well after the fact to drop the hammer on Newton and/or Auburn.

No they are only allowed a maximum of 15 scholarship offers per year for the four years. So they could only sign a max of 60 players within those four years. Normally you get 25 scholarships per year. Basically within that 4 year time frame, USC will have lose out on 40 recruits because they cant offer them scholarships.

Not to mention they can only keep a roster of 75 players instead of the normal roster of 85.

I wouldn't dismiss Auburn just yet. Pat Forde of ESPN said on Jim Rome today that there is an ongoing investigation into Auburn football by the NCAA.

I really thought they would get some scholarships back. I'm shocked at this. It sucks for college football in general. It's not like I had a lot of respect for the NCAA anyways but what I had left is quickly exiting. Best thing that could happen to college football to get this fan back to watching on Saturday's is an NFL Lock-Out.

This isn't exactly correct....the penalty (**** you Paul tub of lard Dee) was 30 scholarships lost over a three year period not four. So while it is correct to say that USC can only sign 15 scholarship athletes a year it's just for three years not four. This is a big reason why CLK took so many kids in this recruiting class. Kiffin and company never thought the appeal would be successful so they planned accordingly. They took the largest class they possibly could this year (30 rides including early enrollees which count towards the previous years class) in order to in effect stock up to weather the storm. By taking such a large class this year when the juniors and seniors on the 2011 team leave they will not have a bunch of inexperienced freshman players taking over for them. Hopefully it works out as well as the coaching staff thinks it will. The biggest problem (either in 2012 or 2013) will be depth. While USC's starting rotation will still be able to compete with the best in the nation CLK will have to look to walk-ons to play significant roles in the rotation. This will almost certainly hurt USC in the coming years unfortunately.....Paul Dee certainly had an axe to grind....it's easy to see that.....

After that little HBO show the NCAA doesn't really have any choice but to look into it. Things can always change, but as of right now Auburn looks to be in the clear.

Hey I'm a UK fan. They have screwed over my basketball program many a times(some deserved, some not), so you are preaching to the choir with their inconsistencies.

I just didn't see any reason in this case for them to accept the appeal. My issue is more with the lack of punishment for other programs like UT, OSU, UNC, etc, as far as inconsistencies. If USC gets this, they all should as well.

It's like the joke punishment UCONN got in basketball...because their UCONN. The NCAA is corrupt and very inconsistent, but in this case they actual did punish the school and not let them off with a slap on the wrist.

My problem with the USC deal is that no one from the school was involved. It was between a player, his parents, and an agent 100 miles from school, and USC got hit harder than Alabama did for an actual pay for play scheme.

That was the reason for the appeal. Not to get off, because they should have been punished, but for the punishment to match the crime.
