No offense meant to our resident Houston fan(s), but anything other then BYU and Boise is a complete joke in regards to who SHOULD get in.

I can see maybe Boise and Houston if BYU flat out deny taking the spot, but those are the two teams that have earned the offer at this point in my eyes.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Houston adds more than Boise.

Boise has a good football team but that's it....no offense to Boise but it's just not a great market.

BYU would be a great get....

Anyway, I highly doubt Texas lets Houston get in.

Ya the other guy was talking about SHOULD, like based on merit. I think he might be talking about winning 10 games every year for most of a decade and redefining what constitutes a major player in college football. We know Boise will be left out based on markets.

Basically if you go by football merit in regards to who is going to bring in the football $$$ and who has legit "earned" the step up, I think it's clear it should be BYU and Boise.

I don't know for sure, but I doubt any of the schools we're talking about here sans maybe BYU bring in enough basketball revenue to make up for the football money.

Unfortunately with the way this expansion crap has worked out up to this point I'm expecting something along the lines of UCF and Buffalo because "OMG we can get into NY and FL markets".....

A lot of talk recently about the Big 12 looking to add 2 more. UConn, Cincy, Houston, BYU in play.

I think Houston will be one of them. I've heard them and Cincy for a while. Also depends if BYU would even join a conference

Deregulation has to be struck down first. If it is approve, Big 12 could do a champ game with 10 teams.

I think Cincy is a lock to the Big 12. The variable is the other one.

Well if they want a network, which seems to be the main reason to expand at this point, it should be UConn.

Idaho, New Mexico State to Depart Sun Belt after 2017 Season

The Idaho Vandals and the New Mexico State Aggies will depart the Sun Belt Conference in football after the 2017 season, the conference announced today.

Idaho and New Mexico State both joined the Sun Belt Conference in 2014 for football only after the demise of the WAC in 2012 and one season as FBS Independents in 2013.

Both schools signed four-year agreements to play in the Sun Belt through 2017. Those agreements will expire without renewal.

“This was a strategic decision that was reached following a thorough and complete review of our options,” said Sun Belt Conference and Texas State University President Dr. Denise Trauth. “The Sun Belt’s Presidents and Chancellors strongly believe it is in the best interest of the conference to have a core membership of 10 football teams that are geographically located within the ‘footprint’ of the conference and that these 10 members also compete in all conference sports. This decision, along with the full 12-team membership that goes into place for the 2016-17 season with the addition of Coastal Carolina University, will reduce travel demands and missed class time for all Sun Belt student-athletes – while also furthering the development of regional rivalries within the conference.”

I don't know about New Mexico State, but Idaho will probably go back to FCS. They used to be 1-AA.

has anyone gone from 1-A back down to 1-AA in the last 2 decades.
