I was born in Texas, spent most of my life in Arkansas. Just looking from the middle of all this Texas always has to rule the roost, period. Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
KSUowls, I respect your position and what you have to say, but I don't think we are going to convince each other that the other position is the best. I also respect the traditions that all the teams have for each other, but there is going to have to be a change of some sort.
I highly doubt that the SEC will go to ten conference games because teams love to watch LSU beat up on North Texas or A&M kicking the snot out of Sam Houston State. I also saw where somebody was suggesting that the SEC could break away from the NCAA, and that could be problematic, but it could also be a step toward things like playoffs and stuff. Of course that's really speculative and will probably never happen.
But back on my post; I was trying to point out my idea that there should be the best product out there every single week. I want to see the number one teams take on each other year in and year out. I think it would make the SEC one of the best conferences in football, and I think it would be the best thing for the sport.Rangers - Cowboys - Aggies - Stars - Mavericks

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
Article was full of examples. The guy has written on football in Texas for years. He laid it all out as to what Texas did. But fine, don't read it. I guess I'll just have to go pick you up and go interview everyone involved since you want examples so bad. Go on not believing it. Your attitude this whole thread any time any one mentions anything bad about UT is "Psssh, yea right." And sure, it is about business, but when every other conference can manage to share just fine, it's kind of odd how Texas seems to get much larger pieces of the pie. There is business, and then there is playing dirty.
anyway, dont just post an entire article. Give YOUR specific examples as to why YOU feel UT "plays dirty" so that we can debate the merits of your specific points.
Again, college football is big business. Every program in the country does what it can to gain as much cache as it can. Texas has the cache and is one of the most profitable athletic programs in history. What do you want them to do about that? Should UT apologize for being better at capitalism to other programs who are trying to do the same thing? Should they apologize for the revenue system in the big 12 that Nebraska and Aggy were big proponents of? Texas does things within the rules. What do you suggest they do differently?
But seeing as you seem to only know Big 12 and know nothing on the SWC and are from Austin, I doubt you'll be changing your tune any time soon. You do know last year wasn't the first time Texas talked with the Pac-10 right? They did this back around 1990 and basically told Arkansas that they'd have nothing to do with them wherever they went and that's when Broyles headed off to the SEC.
A&M was more buddy-buddy with Texas then, but now this time, it is A&M that wants out from UT. As long as Texas keeps up the way they are, no conference is going to really want them aside from saying "Hey, we have Texas." Who knows, had Texas bolted then, maybe we'd be talking about the Pac-12 getting poached today. A private school like Baylor would be more than happy to tag along, but they only got in with them the first time because of government.
Your best source for quality LSU Tigers news, rumors, analysis, stats and scores from the fan perspective.
Another great read...
The powers that be also tried to merge the entire SWC with the Big 8 but the Big 8 only wanted Texas, TAMU, and Tech.
Texas also talked with the Pac 10 and would have gone, but Cal and Stanford vetoed including Aggy. Texas wouldnt go without Aggy (the Texas legislature a big reason why they wouldnt leave Aggy)
Why would "no conference really want" the most profitable program in the country in one of top markets in the country? As much money as Texas makes themselves, they make more money for the other conference members as well. I dont think you have the proper perspective in this situation.Last edited by ZB9; 08-16-2011, 01:39 PM.Comment

Not really the point of this thread, but this scenario would have nothing to do with Title IX. Anti-trust, maybe, but not Title IX at allComment

I, For one, would love the re-kindle the LSU (not Louisiana State) - Aggy rivalry. My dad sure does hat him some Aggy.

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
The USA is a capitalist country. "Entities" like ESPN and Fox are capitalist companies that are the main players in controlling college football. If you dont think that major college football is big business and that UT isnt the only program trying to make money then you are delusional.
I dont understand your point at all.Last edited by ZB9; 08-16-2011, 08:36 PM.Comment

lets just say that a Bleacher Report article is not bounded by any journalistic rules lol. It's not a reputable source

Arkansas jumped off of the sinking Titanic and it worked out pretty well for them. Texas surely encouraged it considering they wanted off of the sinking ship themselves, but to assert that Texas was THE reason for Arkansas' departure is absurd and false.
The powers that be also tried to merge the entire SWC with the Big 8 but the Big 8 only wanted Texas, TAMU, and Tech.

Texas alone tried to leave without anyone else; don't know where you got this Tech stuff from as Tech was certainly not part of the early rounds of Texas trying to get out on their own. The other conferences said no without a second team, which is where A&M came in, and the legislature started trying to keep them together from then on. I'm not sure how what everyone else decides makes Texas looks better. They were out for themselves. Like I said, you can't blame them completely because the conference was going to die, but don't you think there is a reason why any time someone mentioned Arkansas to the Big 12 last year and recently that anyone that knew anything about the past laughed it off and wondered what the person was thinking? Sure, you can't blame Texas for playing the money game well. They got 11 other teams to agree to accept them but it would cost them more; Arkansas is smart enough to not fall for that and hopefully where ever the Longhorns wind up next, they aren't babied so much. I kind of kid when I say Texas will go independent because it only makes sense in the very short term, especially with superconferences as Notre Dame will probably be involved with one of those, but if Texas winds up in another period of mediocrity (I'll laugh if you say they were a great team in the late 80's/90's)... guess we'll just have to see what happens.Comment
